The car was a 2004 Ford Explorer. My car was parked outside of the grocery store. I opened the rear hatch to load my groceries. As I reached up to close the hatch the right side of it collapsed and fell right on my head leaving a large lump. Upon investigation I found that the hinge on the right side of the hatch had snapped and the weight of the hatch has twisted the hinge on the left side. Luckily, I broke the fall of the hatch or there would have been shattered glass everywhere. Definitely a safety issue. This problem occurred on January 5, 2014.

When I investigated the source, I opened the back hatch window and the hinges that held the glass to the body of the car were separating causing the window to fall away on a tilt. I can no longer open the window for fear it will completely come away from the vehicle. It is a huge safety concern and I can no longer open the back hatch at all any longer. The vehicle has never been hit or damaged in any way and the back window has rarely been used in the 3 years I have owned it. My van has a manual lift gate and does not appear to have been included in the recall of 2008 vans with automatic lifts where the gas was leaking out of the struts and causing a similar failure. I request the NHTSA investigate the failure of the manual lift gate and require Honda to fix this equipment failure. I feel this should not have failed in a vehicle only 6 years old. I have another van (Mercury villager) that is almost 18 years old and the lift gate still operates as new. This is a safety hazard and could cause seriously injury or death. Thank you. (this happened in the summer of 2006. ) last month, the water resevoir in the engine busted (despite dutiful maintenance) requiring a completely new engine to be installed. The radio has also malfunctioned twice, being replaced last time. No one was injured in either case, but it could have easily resulted in deaths when the vehicle quit in 70 mile per hour traffic!. The VIN of this vehicle is JT6HF0UXY0_. Hello recently I had a problem with my Lexus Rx300 hatch back door coming loose. First, the bolt that holds one of the hydraulic cylider that were used to keep the door open broke, and then the handle that opens the hatchback door broke and shot closed. The only thing that was holding the door was the other cylider. Had that broken loose, the door would have had fallen off the vehicle. When I took it in for repair, I have been told by Lexus that it was a normal wear and tear. I could not believe it. I have learned since then that this issue that I had experienced is not an isolated incidents. I have heard that this is a common problem in Rx300 and definitely a safety issue. The affected vehicles should have been recalled to be fixed. I am writing this letter to NHTSA headquarter in washinton to request to look into this problem. I am very concerned that it could have caused serious safety hazard on the road. Please look into this issue as soon as possible. Does not always start on first key turn, rugs in hatch area stained from multiple leaks. "new" replaced computer mileage does not match odometer mileage therefore service screen is useless. Dashboard chipped and not set correctly, can see inside. Radio does not always display title/artist and letters become skewed/broken or stuck. Ticking sound that comes from front pass. Side dash. There is black glue all over exterior from re-sealing the rear window. It was Tuesday, March 14, 2006 when this hatchback/liftgate hinge issue happened.

This problem has occurred intermittently for about ten months. Also, the rubber latch covering has deteriorated into a soft, sticky black substance that stains my fingers when I try to open the latch. The deterioration problem preceded the hatchback operational problem by four or five months as best I can recall. I was able to tolerate the messy problem but cannot put up with a hatchback that is inoperable because it prevents me from accessing the spare and safety equipment, and makes it impossible to use the cargo area. The car involved was a 2005 Volkswagen Touareg. July 6, 2006 I opened the hatchback trunk to put a bag in. I was standing to the left side of the car close enough to lean into trunk. I picked it up and 3 days after that the door failed again. "thank goodness I was still being cautious or it could have happened again. I then traded the car in, not wanting to wait for another failure. This problem occurred on Jul. 6, 2006.
