car   Hood Hinge problem of Chrysler Sebring

The car is a 2008 Chrysler Sebring conv. Just imagine driving down the street at approximately 25-30mph and your hood flies up against the windshield. Fortunately for me the person behind be was alert and did not plow into the rear of me. I phoned the insurance company immediately, and I was advised to take the car to a recommended collision center which repaired my car pretty quickly. . . . Too quickly I suppose because when I called the Chrysler, llc office they special investigator said in error that there was nothing that they could do because the evidence was destroyed. He essentially said that there was nothing more that Chrysler could do. They don't know why it happened but it seemed as if the latch was working perfectly now. Well I now have a new hood but the same old latch. My major concern is that if you don't know why it happened to begin with how do you know that it is fixed. Suppose that it is not the latches at all but something connected to the latches that made them both fail. No one is listening to me. I am now very fearful of driving my car which I mentioned to the Chrysler special investigator and his recommendation to me was "if you are that afraid you ought to just trade it in and get something else" he said that they have done all and everything that they intend to do and he hung up the phone with me still talking. I just want this to go on record as a pretty serious problem; but know one is listening!. It was 06/06/11 when this hood hinge issue happened.

No one was hurt but when the hood latch failed to hold, the hood flew up towards the front windshield, totally obscured vision. This made it very dangerous to get out of the travel lane and into the breakdown lane. Fortunately, we were in the right lane and there was minimal traffic early on a Saturday morning but we feel this car would be much safer if the latch held in this accident. This hood hinge issue occurred May 24, 2008.

car   Hood Hinge problem of GMC Jimmy

The VIN of the car is 1GKCS13W5X_. I purchased a 1999 GMC Jimmy for my daughter. All through the warranty period, there have been problems that still have not been fixed. The brakes have never worked properly, parts inside the vehicle have fallen off, the antenna has fallen off,the electrical system (heating and cooling) has not worked properly, the outside mirrors and windows have not worked properly, the electrical system has buzzed when the radio is on, there has always been a banging noise underneath the vehicle. The left front hub assembly was replaced-didn't correct the probelm-had it replaced again 2 weeks ago-same condition still exists. They finally found the lower and upper ball joints on the passenger side were coming apart-replaced them-but noise (loud sometimes) is still there. Have been taking this vehicle in for repairs since I bought it-have been without the vehicle over 30 days in the warranty perioid. Now-after breaking down twice again in the last 2 months (a condition I've been trying to have them fix since 11/01) due to no power when I press on the gas-it's going in again. It is 2 hours one-way to the dealer (silviera, healdsburg, CA) for me. I believe they have been trying-but I think this vehicle is really now, and has always been a lemon. The vehicle has only 50,000 miles on it, and it is not dependable (never has been). After all these times in for service-taking a day off work every time to get it to them, I've had it. My daughter (college student) who I bought the vehicle for (I wanted her to have something reliable for college), now uses my car-so she won't get stuck all the time. I am ready to put the lemon law into effect with this vehicle. It was Nov. 11, 2001 when this hood hinge issue happened.

car   Hood Hinge problem of Honda Civic

The car is a 2002 Honda Civic. The vehicle had a crash. Vehicle identification number (VIN): 2HGES16612_. The hood prop rod's locking mechanism became faulty. The hood prop rod would no longer stay in place. While accelerating, decelerating, or making turns, the hood prop rod would come into contact with the battery. This would cause huge sparks, and sometimes, would cause my car to stall if I accelerated or decelerated too fast. There was one fender bender as a result of this at a traffic light, but there was no damage. Also, when I would do heavy deceleration, my car's braking power was significantly decreased. Fortunately, I never crashed into anyone as a result (but had to drive into the shoulder to avoid an accident) the solution to this was a very simple quick fix after my mechanic identified the problem - just keep the hood rod in the trunk. However, the locking mechanism should not fail after 8 years. It was Tuesday, June 1, 2010 when this hood hinge issue occurred.

car   Hood Hinge problem of Hyundai Sonata

I purchased a 2005 Hyundai Sonata new on 2/18/05 and the dealer, parr Hyundai in bremerton installed a plastic hood deflector. In the spring of 2007, I reported that the deflector was vibrating and the dealer checked it out. Said nothing was wrong. In July 2007, while driving on highway I 5 from olympia to tacoma, wa. , the deflector suddenly flew off. I was going about 65 miles per hour. It was dark and I did not see where it went. Luckily, it did not hit anyone. Had that happened, it would have caused serious damage to any vehicle following or perhaps killed someone. I reported it to the dealer, but they claimed a rock hit my car. I do not believe this is true. The vibrations were getting worse and I had decided to return to the dealer and have the deflector removed. I waited too long, however, and the deflector flew off. The defector part number is 00239-f2000. My concern is not financial, since my loss was only $66. 13. What does concern me is that future failures of the deflectors could cause great bodily harm and property damage. The auto dealer does not appear to be concerned. This hood hinge problem happened on Tue., Jul. 10, 2007.

There is no mention of needing to lubricate this part in the manual for standard maintenance. As it only just happened I have yet to find out if the local Infiniti dealer will be covering the damages under the certified preowned warranty. This issue happened on 02/22/2011.

car   Hood Hinge problem of Toyota Sienna

My husband was driving in florida in our rented Toyota Sienna minivan, and five family members were in the car, on a highway. Suddenly the engine hood came unhooked and flew up, hitting the front windshield. The glass shattered and we were showered with glass, but the bigger problem was that the view out the front was almost totally obstructed. We managed to see through a small crevice underneath the hood, which was now upright and covering almost all the windshield. We were able to pull off the highway without further incident. Please note I am not the owner of this automobile, but rather my husband yonathan epelbaum had rented it from national car company. The car has been returned to national, and the incident was reported to the police at the time of the incident. We were very lucky to have escaped serious injury. The incident happened during daylight, which helped, as at least the daylight helped with visibility through the very small opening under the hood, from which we were able to steer and change lanes safely while exiting the highway. Injuries were fortunately very minor so I am recording as "no injuries" but there was an issue with glass. Considering we might have been killed, we feel very fortunate my husband managed to steer us out of it without hitting anything or being hit. Other cars around us were going very fast so the situation was exceedingly dangerous. It was Sunday, Mar. 22, 2009 when this hood hinge issue happened.
