Vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle is 1GNET16S85_. My 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext lts tailgate glass door hinge cap popped off and had to be repaired/replaced (hinges, fiberglass cap, glass, etc). I was informed by mr. Kenneth lamott of the 1st avenue body shop, inc. In great falls mt that this is a known issue and apparent design defect that Chevrolet knows about. However they will not recognize it as a recall item. It is my understanding from mr. Lamott was to not drive the vehicle on highways should it come loose again as it will dislodge and present oncoming traffic with a hazard that could cause damages, injury and possibly death if it impacted and passed thru a windshield hitting the driver or passenger. It was 01/15/2010 when this tailgate hinge issue occurred.

Vehicle identification number (VIN): 1FTYR14U93_. My son-in-law was helping unload a box from the bed of my 2003 Ford Ranger pickup and was standing on the tailgate. The combined total weight was less than 200 lbs. While he was standing on the tailgate, both cables securing the tailgate snapped without warning, causing him to fall off the truck tailgate. He was not injured. Some scratching of the tailgate occurred as it struck the bumper. I took the truck to the dealer, but since it is a few months past warranty (although with only 21,000 miles). They would not cover the cable replacement. I called the Ford consumer line, and was told they were not interested in repairing the defect either. There was no existing damage to the cables, and the truck is not used commercially, nor has it been in an accident. The parts have not yet been replaced. The old parts are available for inspection at any time. This issue happened on 05/14/06.

The car involved is a 2000 Mazda Mpv. Rear hatch of vehicle has two support cylinders the first one broke off on the driver side a year ago, hitting my wife on the head. I replaced it with a new one $75. 00. The next time as of date below the passenger side of the door broke off again without warning. I have the part. The metal fatigued and it just snapped without warning. Problem: day before my two kids were sitting on the back of the vehicle removing there ski boots. If at that point the door let go, they would have been dead or seriously injured. That door is heavy. This is unacceptable. The part is inadequately designed. It is a dangerous hazard and should be addressed before someone looses their life!!!!!!! if my wife had not been standing the door would have hit her harder and quite possibly killed her. This is a wakeup call folks. Some one is going get killed with this vehicle. This issue happened on Monday, Feb. 25, 2008.

The VIN of this vehicle was JN8AZ08W54_. I put the back tailgate up in my 2004 Nissan Murano to put my granddaughters' belongings in to take them home. I walked to the back seat area to put something in the back seat, when I heard a huge whooshing sound and suddenly the entire door slammed down. Luckily I wasn't near it or I could have been killed. The door is very heavy and it slammed down with quite a force. There was a strong smell of a vaporized nature in the car. Now the door is very difficult to open and requires both hands to do so. Evidently one of the hydraulic struts went out. This poses a significant danger to anyone nearby. I have called the dealer and am taking it in today. They were very non-committal about it being something they would repair without cost. They did say it was a very rare occurrence. I am very concerned about this incident and want to report it. If others are not aware, there could be a very serious accident. I am concerned about my own safety as well. This tailgate hinge problem happened on Nov. 25, 2007.

The VIN of the car is 4S4BP61C95_. I own a Subaru Outback and live in bemidji minnesota--land of below zero winter temperatures. Today I was nailed in the head yet again by the tailgate door of my car. You see, the struts that support the tailgate door do not function when its really cold outside--like approaching 0 degrees fahrenheit or lower. When temperatures are warmer--about 20 degrees above zero--the struts function as usual. But when it is extremely cold, the struts do not work and the door falls freely onto your head or whatever is in the way. This has been an ongoing issue with this car since I purchased it in July 2006. This is an obvious design defect that could lead to an injury. This tailgate hinge problem happened on Wednesday, March 11, 2009.

The car is a 2003 Subaru Legacy. Broke tailgate window. Glass shop indicated dealer-only item. Dealer indicated no replacement windows existed in the united states. Dealer also indicated they already had another similar vehicle in their shop that had already been waiting 3 weeks for a window, and they had no idea when one would come in. Vehicle was less than 5 years old at time of incident. Forced to get used tailgate/window from junkyard. No new replacement windows existed in the united states, even though the window was the same on both Legacy wagons (like mine) and outback wagons, and was the same for at least several model years. In addition, the vehicle was even built in the u. S. Window itself was not defective - problem was no available replacement parts. This issue happened on May 1, 2008.

The car is a 2004 Toyota Sienna. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of this Toyota Sienna is 5TDBA22C54_. Tail gate dropped without warning falling 4 times and striking operator on head. Item was recalled in 2008 and Toyota is failing to make the repair under the recall. This recall should cover this incident as it is still the same problem and is dangerous. The fix was not performed properly otherwise the safety would work and the tail gait would not drop onto the operators head. The failure date was Sunday, April 29, 2012.

The car was a 2004 Toyota Tundra. VIN of the vehicle was 1ZEAAHGA34_. There are two cables that hold the tailgate in place when fully opened(extended). Yesterday(7/17/08) while unloading my motorcycle, both cables broke simultaneously mid way through the unloading process. The cables broke at the exact same place which was exactly half way from one end to the other. The cable is enclosed in a plastic sleeve. That sleeve is not sealed at each end. When the tailgate is in the closed position, which is most of the time, rain or other moisture collects in the plastic enclosure and settles at the bottom of the "u" shaped tube. Over time that moisture has caused the cables to rust and weaken thus the break in my opinion. The result of the brake was that the tailgate feel unannounced to the top of the bumper thus denting the bumper and potentially causing harm to the individual who was doing the unloading. In my opinion this is a flawed product. This tailgate hinge problem happened on Jul. 17, 2008.

The vehicle was a 2007 BMW 530xi. The vehicle identification number (VIN) is WBANN735X7_. I discovered failures of multiple wires in the tailgate/rear window wiring harnesses. Through research online I have found this is a common problem with this vehicle over several model years - search for BMW e61 tailgate wiring problems. The failures are caused by a poor design where the wires entering the hinge guides (4) for the glass and tailgate are repeatedly flexed at a sharp angle until the insulation, then the copper wire breaks. Safety issues - possible electrical short circuit leading to fires (highest load is for rear defroster); lighting failures (rear high brake light, license plate lamps and others); reduced visibility due to loss of wiper/washer/defroster; rear glass latch opening while underway, possibly resulting in loss of cargo or ingress of exhaust fumes. This is not an easily repaired problem. It would be beyond the capabilities of all but a skilled mechanic with proper tools. I discovered it when the remote lock/unlock using the key fobs failed. As I investigated I found the broken wire, along with several others with broken insulation, some with broken copper strands. The failure date was 05/15/13.
