Rearview Mirror problem is a common vehicle problem that happens to most car brands and models. The following is a sample list of Rearview Mirror problems reported in most popular vehicles.
The car involved was a 2013 Chevrolet Suburban. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) is 1GNSKKE70D_. The left driver's side exterior mirror is restricted in its upward movement and will not move high enough to enable safe viewing of the blind side on the left of the car. The mirror is obstructed by the frame of the mirror assembly so it won't pivot into the frame to give a higher view. The failure date was 11/27/2012.

The vehicle involved was a 2004 Chrysler town and country. Complaint about blind spots rear view mirrors in general - including both side mirrors and center mirror. I drive a 2004 Chrysler Town & Country van. I am a tall driver - 6. 5 feet. The front mirror blinds my forward view. On occasion, I have missed seeing a vehicle on a side street or an animal on the side of the road. Also, the rear view mirrors create a blind spot which has been known for some time in the industry. Both of these situations create dangerous possibilities and need to be addressed. Correcting these should not be a large engineering or cost problem for the industry. I request this complaint be pursued aggressively because the auto companies will not do unless pushed. I do not want to be the cause or the victim of an accident resulting from these conditions. I wish to be kept informed as to the progress of this complaint. Thank you. The failure date was Sunday, October 15, 2006.

The car involved is a 2007 Dodge Sprinter. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of the car was WDXPD944X6_. 2007 winnebago view ,right side rear view mirror has a large blind spot. Due to what I believe is a defective mirror as it is 2 inches shorter than the drivers side mirror. The mirror was made for a standard size van, not a large motorhome type body. The selling dealer, winnebago,or Dodge does not want to take responsibility. This issue happened on Thu., Mar. 1, 2007.

The car was a 1996 Dodge Ram Van. Vehicle identification number (VIN): 2B6HB21Y5T_. Moveable side view mirrors slip with shutting doors and with travel at highway speed (>45 mph). I (owner) attempted to repair initial slippage by tightening screws. Mirrors soon began slipping again, and vehicle was past 36,000 mile warranty. Screw threads are now stripped, mirrors won't maintain position. Dealer recommends purchasing two new mirror assemblies (exact same style) for several hundred dollars. Manufacturer rejected request to pay for installation of replacement mirrors from alternate source. Note: I previously owned a 1987 Dodge van which suffered the same problem, although not quite as severely. The problem is clearly due to a long-term failure of Chrysler to address an obviously defective design. Absence of working side view mirrors represents a significant safety hazard, although in this case no accident has yet resulted. This rearview mirror issue occurred 05/01/98.

The car is a 2010 Ford F-150. Warmed up car before church. Turned on front and rear defroster. Backed up, put it in drive and heard what sounded like something crashing into my roof or a gunshot. I stopped and inspected the steel body parts and could find nothing. Driving down the road I noticed in my rearview mirror that my right side of my sliding rear window had shattered. It remained in place. I took this into the dealer on Monday and they fixed it saying a reed switch had malfunctioned allowing the glass to get too hot and shattering. This issue happened on Sun., Nov. 3, 2013.

The vehicle involved was a 2014 Acura Mdx. The VIN of the problem Mdx is 5FRYD4H48E_. The 2014 Mdx is now equipped with a driver's side mirror that is split vertically into two pieces one larger and one smaller. The smaller mirror creates the illusion that a passing car is crashing into your vehicle. It is quite disconcerting to a driver. Both myself and my son have had this experience. It causes a driver to react to a danger that does not exist. This rearview mirror issue occurred 01/08/2014.

The vehicle involved was a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of the car was KMHDH4AE2D_. Two issues: (1) I purchased the vehicle on may 26, 2013. I found out that the gov. Had issued a recall for the Elantra models built from 11-12-2010 through 3-5-2013. My car was assembled on Feb, 22, 2013. I was never told about this at time of purchase and have never received any notification from Hyundai motor America. The dealers are not responsive. (2) the "auto-dimming rearview mirror with homelink & compass" rarely functions. Real problem is that mirror image and headlights are same intensity/ clarity whether unit is turned on or off--very dangerous at night. The dealer I purchased car from and another dealer refused to investigate. It was Sunday, May 26, 2013 when this rearview mirror issue occurred.

The vehicle involved is a 2012 Hyundai Veloster. VIN of the vehicle was KMHTC6ADXC_. There seems to be a problem with adjusting the Veloster side mirrors so they swing far enough out for tall drivers. Online forums indicate a number of drivers with this complaint. My dealer basically says "live with it" but with the blind spots on this car, that is not a safe answer. Drivers (5'10" and up) need to be able to safely see what is forward of the rear bumper of the vehicle and can't. This rearview mirror issue occurred 06/02/12.

The vehicle having this issue was a 2001 Mazda Tribute. The driver side mirror shakes so badly that the image in the mirror is so blurred you can not see anything. I took it back to the dealer, they replaced the mirror and it still did the samething. I complained a second time and they said there was nothing they could do since they already replaced it once. The second problem is that there is a lot of wind noise and a howling noise when driving on the freeway at 50 + mph. It gets so loud that it give me a headache. I told the dealer 3 times about this already. They changed out the window seals out 2 times and this has not solved the problem. What can be done to resolve these 2 defects? thanks. The vehicle is a 1999 Mercedes Benz 170. The inside rear view mirror in my 1999 mercedes-benz slk 230 (r170 model) is a self-dimming mirror that has no manual backup. The mirror contained a fluid which leaked out causing the self-dimming mirror to fail to provide dimming against rear approaching headlights resulting in the driver to either be blinded or to have to turn the mirror away which greatly eliminates rear view capability in the interior. There are many documented cases of these mirrors failing in various makes and models as a result of usually from the internal fluid leaking. This specific car, that I purchased new, has been constantly garaged and seldom driven at night. This vehicle has less than 25,000 miles. Given the low road-height of the driving position, lights from behind, with no way to dim the mirror, pose a very dangerous hazard at night. The manufacturer should be compelled to repair the mirror, and if such defect is as common as it appears, the manufacturer should be forced to replace the auto-dimming mirror with a mirror that also has the capability of manual dimming should the auto-dimming feature fail again. It was Jul. 25, 2012 when this rearview mirror issue occurred.

The vehicle was a 2002 Mercedes Benz C240. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) is WDBRF61J82_. There is very limited visibility from the driver's side mirror because the mirror is compromised in some way. This obviously is a safety hazard. Additionally, fluid from the mirror leaked onto the door of the car and I understand that it has almost definitely affected the paint. Apparently, this has been a common problem in mercedes cars. I was amazed to discover the replacement cost of the mirror, which exceeds $600. This rearview mirror issue occurred Monday, July 23, 2012.

My complaint involves a 1996 Mercury Mystique involving a failure of all interior lighting, side mirror adjustment, radio and clock related to a blown fuse #34 in the auxlillary fuse box. The cause was the overhead map light assembly which had overheated and the plastic retaining the 10w bulb holder melted allowing the metal bulb holder to slide in the molten plastic until it just barely contacted a negative bus in the assembly and blowing the fuse. It was a difficult problem to diagnose being a short was not present until the circuit was fused and then heat from the bulb would cause the metal holder to expand and short out blowing the fuse. I feel it appropriate to report this problem as I feel if the contacts had not shorted and blown the fuse and considering it became hot enough to melt the plastic is a potential fire hazard and I don't feel the assembly was engineered properly to support a 10w bulb. There has been, I believe, eight recalls to date on this model, several of those involved electrical components. It was Wednesday, July 23, 2003 when this rearview mirror issue occurred.

The vehicle is a 2005 Mercury Montego. Vehicle identification number (VIN): 1MEHM42185_. My new Mercury montage sedan is equipped with oversized side mirrors-aps 2 higher and 3 longer than the average size on comparable vehicles. This is a serious problem as it blocks out the entire size of a vehicle when going through intersections, narrow streets, alleys, and parking lots. Also ,cannot see pedestrians, wheel chairs, etc . ,that may be waiting in the gutter. When turning, the larger size mirror reflects cars that are behind you, yet appear to be coming from the side. In evening hours, the larger size reflects the headlights of vehicles, particularly SUV's, and is blinding. I commute 400 miles/week, and fear that this is a potential safety hazard that needs to be addressed and corrected. My Mercury dealer said nothing can be done. That is irresponsible! sine this form doesn't allow for multiple incidents, I have entered the most recent one. It was April 12, 2005 when this rearview mirror issue occurred.

The vehicle is a 2008 Nissan Titan. I was driving on a rough stretch of I-55 south. I then noticed the overhead console slowly separating from the front. Then all of a sudden it started falling. I couldn't pull over at the time this was happening. I also couldn't see anything from the rearview mirror. By the time I was able to exit, the console had broken up to the last compartment. I pulled into a parking lot so that I could try to disconnect the wires. I still had 40 plus miles to drive to get home. I was able to disconnect the wires and put the broken console on the seat. I called a local Nissan dealer once I got home. I was told the only thing that I could do was to purchase a new console. I was also told that I would have to replace everything including the tv monitor which is still in place. This issue happened on Sep. 13, 2012.

The car involved is a 2004 Volvo Xc70. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) is YV1NC63D04_. Since the purchase in August 2003, my c70 convertible has turning problems and I can't safely make a u-turn in traffic or park in a parking space. The wheel turns only to a certain point and then stops. The incompetent Volvo service dept. Has said that I need my "stops" adjusted - why would they be there in the first place? I bring the car in for service and they do some meaningless service and the steering is temporarily fixed for a short period of time. When I brought it in to service another time, they told me my tires were the wrong size - it's the tires that Volvo put on the car, not me. The steering wheel shakes significantly between 30-45 mph and, again, they told me it's the tires. The auto-dim mirror does not dim since I leased the vehicle and Volvo service told me that it only works when headlights from oncoming traffic hits the sensor. What???? I have literally been blinded by traffic behind me that I pull over to the side of the road until they pass. The mirror does not work and is causing me not to drive at night for my own safety. Volvo has produced an unsafe vehicle and will not take responsibility for it. I take my life in my hands every time I get into the vehicle. I know other Volvo owners that are experiencing the steering wheel shaking problem and they are not getting satisfaction. I have also talked other people and advised them not to lease or purchase this c70 convertible. My car is 18 months old and I have only 12000 miles on it because I am frightened to drive it. The failure date was Aug. 26, 2004.

The car is a 2001 Volvo V70xc. The original rear view mirror has a special coating to make it unnecessary to flip the mirror up and down to reduce glare from headlights at night. The coating on this mirror appears to have "melted" while the vehicle was parked normally outside our texas home, resulting in warped, obstructed vision in this mirror both day and night. Passengers seated in the rear seat appear to have elongated faces when observed in the mirror, and the uneven, irregular view of the street behind makes it difficult to focus and determine where oncoming cars are located. An area of the mirror approximately 3x1 inches no longer has any coating, but still does not reflect clearly. The remainder of the mirror still has the day/night coating, but images in this area are particularly distorted. It was Monday, Aug. 2, 2010 when this rearview mirror issue happened.

However, when it failed it clouded up the mirror and it is very difficult to see, there are 2 images, and it doesn't dim at night. I spoke to the dealer and the manufacturer to see if they would replace this. They said that it was out of warranty. I told them that this is a safety issue because you cannot properly see out of the review mirror, and that this seems to be a very common problem with these mirrors. It seems that the majority of them have failed. I cannot believe that there isn't a safety recall on this. This problem occurred on Saturday, March 3, 2007.
