The vehicle involved is a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of this Dodge Grand Caravan is 2D4GP44LX6_. I purchased this vehicle used in 2011 and about three months later I took into the dealer for an oil change and they said I need to change out my rack/pinion/steering since it had a small leak. Now I have a larger leak underneath the van wherever I park. I checked myself to see that the small plastic clamps have come loose and transmission fluid was leaking out. That did not fix it since it is now leaking in the front passenger side. Also I have a sunroof that leaks when we wash the van and when it rains, I have cleaned out the drains but the seal is worn down and I would have to purchase the entire assemble to fix the problem at $500 for the part does not include labor? I am happy with the vehicle other than the lemon part of the axle going bad. This sun roof problem happened on Jun. 11, 2012.

The vehicle was a 2011 Ford Taurus. I was driving at about 40 mph on a cool, sunny day when my moonroof on my 2011 Fordtaurus exploded. It made a very loud noise at first (similar to a gunshot) which was followed by the glass crackling for about 45 minutes. It was not struck by any object (rock, etc). The Ford dealership I took it to immediately afterwards was dumbfounded as to what would have caused it to shatter. Very small glass fragments did fall into the car. Because my warranty had expired, I had to pay for a replacement out of pocket. This sun roof issue occurred Thursday, December 5, 2013.

The vehicle involved is a 2007 GMC Yukon. Traveling approximately 60 mph on a partly sunny day, approximately 27 degrees outside with my heater on, my sunroof spontaneously shattered with a sound similar to a gunshot. At that point, the glass did not fall but was cracked into thousands of pieces. Later as I drove the glass began to fall apart. I was not following any vehicle and was not driving under a bridge or around any trees so there was nothing that could have struck my sunroof. The roadway was smooth and my sunroof has never sustained any damage in the past. This issue happened on January 29, 2014.

I was driving my 2009 Honda Accord on the interstate I-44 east near fort leonard wood missouri. No other vehicles were in front of me or around me. Weather was clear, temperature was in the mid 50s. No impact to the vehicle occurred. The sunroof on my vehicle spontaneously shattered and exploded sending glass throughout the interior of the car. Further, while cleaning up the glass many of the pieces were sharp and glass splinters were prevalent. There were numerous nicks and cuts on my hands and my son's hands from cleaning up the glass which was everywhere. If anyone had been in the back seat of the car (particularly a child), they could have been seriously hurt. My son witnessed this as well - he was sitting in the passenger seat. Again, both of us can confirm that there were no vehicles in front or to the side of us and nothing happened (such as a rock from a vehicle in front) that would have caused the sunroof to shatter. Further, the fact that it shattered the way it did with sharp glass and splintering throughout the car is problematic. I have tried to address this matter with Honda to no avail. I consider this a significant safety issue. A sunroof should never explode in this matter absent a manufacturing defect. More importantly, had those small, sharp shards of glass and splinters hit someone's eyes in the backseat of the car, it could have resulted a very serious injury. Based upon searches on the internet, other Honda owners have experienced the same occurrence. This problem occurred on Sunday, January 26, 2014.

The vehicle involved is a 2013 Honda Cr-v. I was driving home on a major road (not a small back road) when I heard a sound like a gunshot. I immediately pulled over and found that there was a large hole in my sunroof, with spiderweb cracking coming out from the hole. The glass was flexed upwards and created a dome-like effect. I continued to drive the 2 hours home and immediately went to a local Honda dealership. The service man took pictures and proceeded to tell me that if something had fallen onto the sunroof, the glass would've crashed into the car, not flexed up and out like mine did. A few days later, the service man called and said after sending Honda the pictures, they decided I must've damaged the sunroof somehow, causing it to crack, meaning Honda would not take responsibility for it. I then proceeded to call the dealership where I bought the brand new car 6 months ago. In talking to the sales manager, he told me that if I was driving down the highway, it would be near impossible for something to fall on my sunroof to cause a damage. It would've hit my windshield, or just flown over my car. He said there was nothing he could do and I could call Honda directly. I did. My case representative proceeded to "look into it", which entailed a mumbling man telling me he may or may not get back to my claim by January 21st. When I heard back from them, he had called the first dealership and then reported that they felt like there was damage to the sunroof, meaning Honda still wouldn't take responsibility. Honda has jerked me around from person to person, while having me drive around in my new car with a gaping hole in the sunroof that is shattering glass every time I drive it. Their service men have told me one thing, and the corporation as a whole is saying something else. After a quick web-search, there have been many other instances of this happening on Hondas, and they are refusing to take responsibility. This sun roof issue occurred Jan. 2, 2014.

The vehicle involved is a 2007 Infiniti G35. As I was driving normally, my sunroof exploded outwards. I was not actuating the sunroof in any way at the time and the interior shade was closed. A large, central portion of the glass was propelled into the air and rained back down on the car. It sounded like a shotgun right next to my ear. I saw glass from the sunroof sliding down the rear window. What remains of the sunroof is an outer ring of glass that is slanted upwards towards the center, like a volcano, proving that the glass exploded outwards. I have a dash cam in my car that recorded exactly what was happening at the time, including audio. The video shows nothing that could have impacted the sunroof and an extremely loud bang as the sunroof exploded on its own. This sun roof issue occurred Dec. 14, 2013.

The vehicle involved was a 2006 Infiniti M35. I got in the car this morning and my sunroof was fine. I pulled out of my parking spot and that was when I heard this cracking sound. I got to my destination which was less than 1/2 mile away, I parked the car got out and took my daughter into school. There was nothing on above my car, I parked in an open area. When I got back in the car and closed the door it sounded as if glass popped from somewhere. I got out looked at the roof and my sunroof has a crack along the front and there is a hole that looks like someone took their fist from inside the car and punched it towards the sky. I drove back home trying to see if I could find any indication of how this could have happened because I was just in the car less than an hour ago and my car was fine. I went online to search exploding sunroofs and that's when I found thousands of complaints for Nissan and Infiniti as well as other makes and modes. My husband immediately called manhattan Infiniti and explained the situation and was told that they had never received any type of bulletin about it and they would know if this was an issue. They went on to say that my car was out of warranty so this wouldn't be covered. My issue is that this isn't a warranty complaint there is clearly something defective with the sunroof and I'm not the only one having this issue. I feel that dealer should cover this. I shouldn't have to go to someone else when this is clearly a manufacturing default. This could have caused a major accident if I had the sunroof open or even cracked as the glass would have fell in the car while I was driving and hit me or my children. This problem occurred on Friday, November 22, 2013.

The vehicle involved is a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The sunroof/moonroof does not set appropriately when closed and causes water leak and subsequent water damages. This also leads to the drainage lines to clog up and causes water to backup into sensitive electrical components within the roof. The car was a 2005 Land Rover Lr3. Vehicle has a problem that allows water to leak through the sun roof seal and front windshield seal. The water seepage is causing electrical problems with certain vehicle functions; namely the inability to use the key fob remote to lock and unlock the vehicle. The electrical problems at this point appear to be intermittent and resolve themselves several days later, presumably after the water has evaporated. When driving the vehicle after it has been rained on, the trapped water within the ceiling of the vehicle begins to escape and fall through the airbag ports on the a-pillar and from the interior light console. The issue seems to be a common problem with this model when reading various reports on the internet. This problem occurred on Tuesday, October 4, 2011.

The vehicle is a 2006 Land Rover Lr3. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) was SALAD25456_. I had my landrover Lr3 vehicle serviced at the alexandria, va while at this dealership I requested to have service which I discovered was issued through a landrover manufactures bulletin completed also. On October 23, 2007, my vehicle was brought into the bethesda, MD landrover dealership for servicing, including the maintenance work, repair of the brake lights and repair of the sunroof. The dealership stated that I needed replacement tires and an alignment I questioned the logic of the tires prematurely wearing. I decided to research the matter further. These conditions existed when the vehicle was at the bethesda, MD location, but were not taken care of which was part of the service warranty. Daniels promised to me that he would take care of the directives costs,
I received a phone call from the person who identified himself as denise matiupa, a supervisor. Denise started the conversation off by yelling that he had reviewed the notes associated with the decision to deny me coverage and want to know what I wanted. Denise stated that it had not been serviced when it was in bethesda, MD. I told denise that I requested it. Denise stated that he had no record of my request. I told denise, he also doesn't have any record of my not requesting it. I reminded denise that if landrover puts out a directive, the dealerships receive them, not the customer. The service ticket on the day that I had my vehicle in bethesda, MD clearly notes that the tires, hence, the suspension system was prematurely malfunctioning and it is the dealership duty under the warranty to execute all required routine services. Denise stated that he was sticking by the decision. Please assist me as you can in obtaining a reversal of this denial decision. The failure date was Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008.

The vehicle involved is a 2004 Lexus Rx330. Vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle is 2T2HA31U44_. On July 10,2004 I picked up my new vehicle, a Lexus RX 330 from the bayridge Lexus dealer in nys. Within a 1/2 hour, while testing the safety features of vehicle, I had placed a large stuffed animal (in place of a human body part of a adult or child). Although all the windows and remote rear door automatically opened when coming into contact with foreign object ( stuffed bear), the sunroof jammed the bear between the closing glass and frame I immediately brought the vehicle back to the dealership with the stuffed animal still jammed in the sunroof back to the dealership the service technician were unable to dislodge the stuffed animal's head from the jammed sunroof (imagine if this was a child's body part???) and had to dismantle the sunroof to remove the stuffed animal and had me return on the 12th determine the cause and to fix the sunroof. Since that time, this same vehicle has been repaired by the same Lexus dealership a minimum of 6 times for problems with the sunroof. All the while I was returning with the vehicle to be get sunroof repaired, I was under the impression that they had reported this obverous safety defect that a foreign object (stuffed bear over 2 1/2' in length and as soft as a child's hand) would get jammed between the closing glass and the frame of the sunroof without a safety feature to automatically open the window if a foreign object gets in way of closing as with the remote truck closing system and the automatic windows this vehicle is factory equipped with. Nys has the lemon laws for new vehicles sold that are defective. It was during this process in collecting my service records from bayridge Lexus that I discovered that they never looked into this matter as a safety defect, nor was it reported (to the best of my knowledge) to any official agency that car manufactures are required to report possible safelty defects. This sun roof issue occurred July 10, 2004.

The vehicle is a 2002 Lincoln Town Car. The VIN of this vehicle was 1LNHM82W92_. We were traveling the I-40 in az behind a tractor/trailer rig. The rig threw up a rock. It hit our car. We looked at our windshield thinking the rock hit there and saw nothing so we proceeded. Later, we heard a strange sound. I looked in the rear view mirror and saw something fly off. We stopped and discovered part of our sunroof had broken apart and flew off. We duct tapped the remaining sunroof and proceeded at a very slow speed. It occurred to us if a motorcycle or convertible would have been behind us they could have been hit by the glass. Thank god, they weren't there. We could hear pieces of the glass falling on the sunshield. Thankfully, we weren't cut. The dealer told us that sunroof glass isn't laminated or of the quality of windshield glass. Is it possible to require a disclaimer or a safer glass for sunroofs?. It was Sep. 8, 2006 when this sun roof issue occurred.

The car is a 2012 Mazda Mazda3. While traveling approximately 35 - 40 mph (accelerating) on a long winding wooded rural interstate onramp, no other vehicle traffic nearby, the sunroof (closed at the time) literally buckled upward and exploded outward. It was very loud like a shotgun. At the time it happened, it gave both myself and my daughter the impression that someone had fired a gun at us and we did not stop until we reached the next exit. We were very rattled by the incident. There was definitely no previous damage to the glass and no rock or other foreign object involved. The glass that was expelled flew up and out behind the vehicle except for some glass pieces that stayed on the roof and the trunk. Very little of the approximately 8"x10" section of missing glass fell in the tray beneath. If this had happened while we were in heavy traffic at higher speeds, or even if my teenage daughter had been driving at the time, I'm not sure it wouldn't have caused a serious accident. This sun roof problem happened on January 13, 2014.

The vehicle involved was a 2010 Mazda Cx-7. Vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle is JM3ER2W5XA_. Our sunroof exploded on Tuesday, November 27, 2012. It was about 35 degrees outside and a bright, sunny day. We were on interstate 94 and heard a loud explosion. We looked behind us and saw glass flying from our rooftop. The truck behind us dropped his speed immediately, as our glass was flying off the roof. We immediately pulled over to the side of the highway and saw that our sunroof had exploded up and outward. The tempered glass is totally in shards and barely held together. We pulled off the larger, loose pieces, and called our insurance company immediately. We are fortunate the inside headliner of the sunroof was closed, or we would have had glass raining down on us. We do not believe anything landed on the roof, as I have a roof rack on top and nothing is damaged on top of the roof itself. We contacted the manufacturer, Mazda, and they don't think it is a warranty issue. I believe we have a defect with the sunroof glass and would like it looked into. It was 11/27/12 when this sun roof issue happened.

As I was driving my brand new car I just got 2 months ago(Mitsubishi Outlander 2009) on the n. J. Parkway all of a sudden I heard a crack from my sunroof and then suddenly the glass just exploded into many pieces. Thank god! I had the cover closed that prevented me from getting shattered glass in my face or getting into an accident with another vehicle . Mind you nothing at all hit my car nor were their any cars beside me. As I kept on driving to my nearest exit I saw remaining glass pieces flying off my sunroof everywhere. When I came to a stop light I opened the cover slightly and saw there was a whole there as well as glass sitting ontop. So the next day I take the car to the dealers they tell me it's out of their hands and that I have to go through manufacturer. When the dealer returned my call 3 days later they told me Mitsubishi manufacturer denied the claim to replace the sunroof glass. I then called in the manufacturer myself and put into two more complaints asking them to re-examine the emailed pictures they got from dealers and they still persisted it wasn't a defect and that it was from an outside source. I had no choice but to turn to my insurance and make a claim. I cannot understand why they would not think this is not a defect when no type of outside source ever hit my car. I could have gotten hurt if I had not had that shade covering me. It's been 2 weeks already and my sunroof is still with a broken and defected roof. The failure date was 01/15/2009.

The car is a 2003 Saturn Vue. I have had several problems with my 2003 Vue. First, the vti transmission seems to hesitate and or slip when accelerating. This has happened on several occasions at different speeds, it comes and goes. It also seems louder that it should be with clicking noises, especially when cold. I took the car to the dealer to make sure everything was ok, I was told there was nothing wrong. Second, the horn is very hard to use, my wife does not like to drive it because she does mostly city driving and needs a horn. It's not broken, just very difficult to use and I think a potential hazard. Finally there are many other sqeaks and rattles that drive me crazy. The headliner around the sunroof on the drivers side rattles a lot. Also the rear trunk/liftgate squeeks and after closer examination I saw that the inside plastic was coming apart from the rear trunk/liftgate. I pushed it back together, but I think it loosens everytime I close the trunk/liftgate. Nothing has been done to the vehicle concerning these problems. The failure date was Jul. 27, 2004.

The car involved is a 2007 Toyota Scion Tc. I was driving down the freeway going 65 mph. All of the sudden I heard a really loud gunshot sound and then the middle of the sunroof exploded. All the windows, including the sunroof, were closed. I only had the visor open; when the glass broke, I had glass in my hair and all down my back. When the sunroof broke, the front piece of the sunroof flipped open as well. Looks like some took their fist and hit the sunroof from the inside of the car. The right side of my ear still hurts from the sound of the gun shot sound. My car is currently with the dealership for them to inspect it. When I called the dealership and scion corp office, they both said they have never heard of this happening on this vehicle. I find this very hard to believe as there are hundreds of postings online stating that this is becoming more and more of an issue. I thank god that my 4 year son wasn't with me at the time as glass would have gone all over him. I want scion to pay for this damage as this is a huge safety issue. I could have caused an accident or even have killed myself as glass went everywhere. Does someone need to be killed in order for someone to look at this issue? thank you in advance for your time and help with this matter. It was Friday, January 31, 2014 when this sun roof issue occurred.

The car is a 2012 Volkswagen Passat. Sunroof exploded while driving down freeway at night. No cars in front of me to kick up a rock, no overpasses for something to be thrown from. Completely random explosion. I heard a loud gunshot sound, then small glass pieces rained down on my head and face and all over my three children in the back seat. Looked up and heard the sound of wind and saw the hole in my sunroof. So far the dealership has said they won't replace it under warranty and I have reached out to vw directly and they are denying the claim as well. This is absolutely a manufacturing defect and they are not standing by their product. They are lucky nobody was injured or killed in an accident. Hopefully that doesn't have to happen for them to take responsibility. It was Wed., Jan. 22, 2014 when this sun roof issue occurred.

The vehicle is a 2003 Volvo Xc90. I was not aware of the design defect in sun roof & the water damages that result in electrical issues. I had always parked my vehicle in covered parking until moving this year in January. I had taken my car in to have a tune up in Nov 2012 at which time I was given an estimate of repairs needed in my car. My car remained parked for most of 2013 due to having moved I wasn't able to afford repairs. The repairs where inner&outer tie rods, ball joints, mounts, arm bushings, rotors & break pads. The above aforementioned where made. Following repairs I washed my car and drove out of town 4th July weekend from los angeles to jamestown California. Once I arrived my car remained parked until returning home July 7th. Shortly after starting my car the dash gauges started to flash on/off and eventually went out. At the time I had my portable gps, a/c was working & I had use of windows (rolling up & down). I knew I had a full tank of gas cause I had fueled up prior to arriving at destination. Being I was in the middle of know where without cell phone service I drove as far as I could before I thought I may need gas. When I stopped to get fuel I was not able to open the door to refuel with gas. I broke the clips on the door allowing me to access and fuel tank and refill with gas. It was Sunday after a major holiday and there was a lot of traffic, the only Volvo dealership I passed was closed and I just wanted to get home. So I continued to drive and was just getting onto the grapevine and traffic really backed up. There was a fire that had been burning on the mountain to the right and helicopters where dumping water on this ongoing fire. Around this time I noticed the a/c had quit working and was blowing hot air. I tried to roll my windows down and they where inoperable. Traffic was at a crawl and there was no place to pull over. Worst nightmare ever. This sun roof issue occurred Sunday, Jul. 7, 2013.

The vehicle having this issue was a 2007 Cadillac Srx. Hello, the reason for my email is that just this past Monday, November 25 of 2013 the sunroof to my 2007 Cadillac Srx exploded while driving on the freeway with no explanation. This happened around 8pm on a cold and drizzly night. Big chunks of glass fell all over my husband and I leaving us with minor scratches, fortunately no one was severely hurt. The following morning of the incident I went online and came across several identical incidents with the same make and model of car, as well as others. We took the liberty of contacting gm corporate headquarters as it seems this may possibly be a factory defect. The vehicle is currently at the dealer ship but as of right now there has not been much help, much less an explanation. My biggest concern is the safety of the vehicle being that I am 8 1/2 months pregnant and this is our only vehicle. How safe will this be for my family? I do not feel comfortable and I am not at ease that I have not heard from the local Cadillac dealership where all I have heard from them is an issue of how many miles the car has at the present time and not the fact that this was a life or death situation. The purpose of this is to seek out any kind of help, information, or advice as to what we can do to have this situation resolved. Thank you so much for your time and hope to hear from you soon. This issue happened on 11/25/2013.

The vehicle is a 2001 Jaguar Xk8. The VIN of this vehicle was SAJDA14C91_. Fumes enter the cabin: shortly after I took delivery of the Jaguar and numeroous times thereafter my wife and I expereinced serious health problems while riding in the car. These problems were only when the sunroof was open. The first symptom was bad headaches. Eyes begin to feel dry and there is difficulty focusing. Without warning the eyes seem to be stuck in the sockets resulting in very bad double vision. Sunroof was stuck in the open position. Dealer replaced the purge canister valve and states that the fumes were from seam sealant that will go away, after making repairs, consumer states that the problem did not go away, therefore requesting a cancellation of the lease and requesting that all payments made be reimbursed. This sun roof issue occurred Jun. 1, 2001.
