The vehicle identification number (VIN) is 2G1WD58C76_. 2006 Chevrolet Impala. Consumer writes in regards to transmission problems. The consumer stated the transmission was slipping. She explained to the dealer, there was a recurring problem with the transmission. Each time, the consumer went to the dealer, she was informed they could not recreate the problem, and therefore no problem existed. Besides the transmission problem, there was a horrible ratcheting machine-gun type noise coming from behind the dash, when she changed the vent position. The loud noise lasted for about a minute and was almost ear-piercing. Also, the engine mount broke, the water pump, steering and tie rods failed, the engine burned excessive amount of oil, and the engine low oil light illuminated. The windows made a screeching sound, the sunroof would drag, the plastic headlight covered were fogged and faded. The tire pressure monitoring light was constantly on. On April 24, 2013. The consumer took the vehicle to an independent transmission shop to have them assess the same transmission slipping problem, she had been experiencing for seven years. They dropped the transmission pan, and they found fine metal, pieces of aluminum and clutch material in the pan. It was 05/01/13 when this side/rear glass issue occurred.

The car involved is a 2006 GMC Yukon xl 1500. The VIN of this Yukon is 3GKFK16Z96_. I just bought this vehicle. The rear window release button is pushed all the way in and will not open the window. While I had the rear hatch apart I was going to put in a mechanism to allow opening the rear hatch from inside. I think this should be a factory recall to install 1. A more reliable door and window latch system and 2. To put in a inside release mechanism. I don't understand why there are over 300 technical service bulletins listed for this vehicle in the GMC site but only 13 according to NHTSA. This side/rear glass issue occurred Dec. 18, 2013.

The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) is 19UUA56692_. The mirror on my Acura Tl 2002 is showing a liquid leak between the glass panes. I called Acura, California and they said they can do nothing for me and would not acknowledge this has happened before. I called magna ,the mirror manufacturer, and they said yes indeed the mirror was a hazard and continues to be one and that I should remove the mirror ASAP. The internet is full of events related to this mirror. Leaking, property damage, explosions, and others. I now cannot find a replacement mirror for my car to fit as the oem mirror was designed to do. Acura and magna should be the ones exhausting time and energy to satisfy and protect it's customer, me, and the countless others who still do not know of the dangers these mirrors possess. Please help me and all Acura owners before someone is severely or fatally injured. Thank you. The failure date was Sun., Jul. 25, 2010.

The whole glass was gone, with half landed inside the car and half outside. The car was parked at the time and there was no one around and nothing that I know of had hit the car door window. The glass just spontaneously shattered. This side/rear glass problem happened on Tue., Jan. 21, 2014.

The vehicle having this issue was a 2012 Honda Cr-v. Upon leaving work, wife heard a wind noise coming from the sunroof, as if it was open. Upon sliding back the cover (slightly), she noticed the glass was shattered (with a big hole), and bulging outward or toward the interior. She was not around any other vehicles so it is unlikely the cause was a bouncing rock or pebble. Upon calling the dealership where the car was purchased, they referred us to a local auto glass shop. Upon calling Honda of America, they referred us to our insurance company. By the way, the car is still under full warranty. What can we do? it should be under warranty, shouldn't it?. It was Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013 when this side/rear glass issue happened.

The vehicle involved is a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. This complaint on a brand new 2013 Sonata, is about severe interior windshield distraction caused by the reflection of the interior dash onto the front, drivers windshield. The reflection of the interior on the windshield is so severe that it impairs safe driving. During daylight driving, everything that is located on the top of the interior dashboard vividly reflects onto the interior windshield. Design effects, speakers, steering wheel and even the drivers hands with fingernails on the windshield. Evening driving the reflection is also extremely impaired via distraction, for example the odometer reflects above the interior drivers window, above the mirror and its in full color! on a test drive, after my complaint, the dealer acknowledged this problem and suggested that it maybe from cleaning fluid used during the detailing process and had the car re-detailed, however this did not rectify the problem. I have directly notified Hyundai but have not heard back from them. I believe this a safety hazard and there is a dangerous flaw in the construction of the glass in this car. The failure date was Dec. 26, 2012.

I was driving my Hyundai Veloster on a smooth paved hwy, going about 60 miles/hr, on a sunny day, sun shade open/ moonroof closed when the moonroof exploded (imploded). There were no other vehicles near me and no debris in the roadway. The explosion was extremely loud, sending shattered glass throughout the car, in my clothes and hair. Thankfully my 2 yr old grand daughter was not in her car seat in the rear, she probably would have lost her eyesight or worse. The explosion was so loud, it sounded like a truck ran into the car. I closed my eyes for a few seconds because of the glass falling down on me. I'm not sure how I was able to keep from losing control of the steering. I was terrified and still have not wanted to drive the car since. The failure date was Tue., Oct. 16, 2012.

The vehicle involved was a 2002 Infiniti I35. The VIN of this I35 is JNKDA31AX2_. Government reports indicate that 85% of all accidents occurr during low light situations. The new plastic lights, that come on every automobile, are economically unreasonable to replace when they get sand blasted or fogged over from exposure to the sun and other elements of nature. The lights for my 2002 vehicle are $1,000. 00 each. The lights are all sandblasted and foggy and do not emit light well. I can't afford to replace the lights when the lights cost almost as much as the car. The manufacturers should make the components economically feasable to replace or make them out of glass which will not fog over. If not that then the manufacturers should be responsible for replacing the lights free as long as the vehicle is drivable and on the road legally registered for that function. Once the lights have become fogged,or blasted, polishing them only lasts for around 30 days. Repetitive polishing will change the optics of the light and eventually you will polish clear through the plastic. These lights are a major safety issue and should be addressed by either the manufacturers or the government. It was Monday, January 6, 2014 when this side/rear glass issue occurred.

The vehicle involved is a 2012 Infiniti Fx35. VIN of the vehicle was JN8AS1MWXC_. Incident happened about 9am with temperatures in low 30sf. As I was pulling out of parking lot,I heard what sounded like glass tinkering. It got colder/more windy in car & more light coming from moonroof area. About 1/2mile later as I make left turn I noticed what looked like small dark crystals flying off top of trunk area. I pulled over, got & checked back of car. When I went to front of car, I also didn't notice any damage. I got back in car & opened covering for moonroof. I saw big hole & what was left of glass was all shattered. I took pictures from inside & tried to take pictures from outside. I called car dealership, who said they never heard of any such incident & said it was not covered by warranty. Later I inquired about extra coverage for tire, wheel & glass I bought but was told moonroof was not included. This issue happened on November 25, 2013.

The vehicle was a 2011 Kia Motor Optima. The vehicle identification number (VIN) is KNAGN4A6XB_. Moonroof on our 2011 kia Optima ex model exploded while traveling at 60 mph December 25th 2013 - evening. Outside temperature was 36 degrees f at the time. Incident also caused body and paint damage to our trunk as well as peppered vehicles behind us with glass fragments. Upon reviewing multiple forums on line it appears this is not an isolated incident for kia/Hyundai as I learned multiple models made by this duo have also suffered similar scenario's. I'm sure NHTSA is quite aware that the Hyundai veloseter has recalled several thousand vehicles mfg. For this potential issue and we're coincidentally made during the same time frame our vehicle was assembled. The failure date was December 25, 2013.

The car was a 2008 Lexus Es350. The passenger side window glass popped out while my wife was driving this car to school to drop off our kids. It did startle her because of the noise. She was alert enough and any accident was avoided. I got the car checked out by a Lexus dealer and they said that it was due to a faulty plastic tab that broke and the entire glass assembly needs to be replaced (even though there is nothing wrong with the glass itself) this is a known problem in Lexus as acknowledged by a TSB (technical service bulletin) l-sb-0003-09 issued by them on January 26, 2009. The car was still under warranty at that time, but they failed to inform me about this potential problem. It was 10/01/13 when this side/rear glass issue happened.

The car involved was a 2007 Lexus Es. While we were driving our 2007 Es350 in a high way in December 2011, the passenger-side front window glass suddenly fell off from the track, and we should have stopped the car right away. After replacing it with a "newly-designed" oem glass in a Toyota dealer service dept (it was out of warranty, so we paid $600 for the replacement), the driver-side front window glass also fell off in February 2012, and we couldn't drive the car until the glass was replaced in the same dept. Once one (or both) of the front window glasses falls off, it is very dangerous to drive the car in a high speed. And, we believe the original window-glass design has a defect and that is why Lexus re-designed the glass (please look at the TSB below). I don't understand why Lexus doesn't recall it for the driving safety. The failure date was 02/10/2012.. Read more...

The car involved is a 2010 Lincoln Mkx. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of this Lincoln Mkx is 2LMDJ6JC6A_. The vehicle was in our garage with the door closed and the rear hatch window shattered. The window is completely shattered with two softball sized holes where the glass was blown out onto the garage floor. No one was in the car nor the garage when this happened and there were no items in the car that could have caused the damage. We have not moved the vehicle hoping Lincoln would care enough to come and see what has happened. They told us they would not send anyone to view the window. I have a 1999 Lincoln Town Car. The windshield adhesive has failed apparently from having been parked outdoors for 25 days. The windshield has slipped down about one half inch and it is leaking. It is loose enough that it vibrates when the door is closed. I searched for a recall and although there was none for the Lincoln windshield, I did see that the Ford windstar Mini van had a recall for using the incorrect urethane adhesive(campaign id number 00v020000). My Lincoln towncar was built at Ford's wixom plant where the windstar vans were built and near the same time. It was 09/26/2006 when this side/rear glass issue happened.

The car was a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer. Hello and good day, when I 1st purchased my Mountaineer (purchased used with approx 119,000 miles) I took it to get it washed. When I was getting it washed the rear hatch panel (the rectangular panel under the glass with the make and model name) cracked and broke apart. I tried to contact Ford and Mercury concerning this to explain what happened and how part of the car literally fell off. They informed me that they would not recall this but that I could take it to my local dealer and they could fix it for $750! I did research to find, literally, thousands of complaints about the same exact problem. People's rear hatch panels are falling off while driving all the time, I see it on the road alot. Since the panel fell off, the retaining metal piece that holds the reatch hatch clasp in place to the door, it rusting off. This is because the panel is broken off and water/ice has rusted the area, where usually water and ice could not reach it. This small problem is not causing multiple problems. I am concerned that more of my rear panel will fly off while driving and cause an accident I am concerned that my rear hatch panel will come open while driving (the clasp could rust off anytime) and cause an accident or it will fly open and stuff will fly out of my car and then cause an accident I am concerned that my panel will open while parked and my car /possessions will be stolen I am concerned that the door clasp will cause my car alarm (factory) to go off and run my batter down and/or short out my electrical system. The vehicle having this issue was a 2014 Nissan Altima. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) was 1N4AL3AP8E_. The sunlight reflects off of the beige and glossy black interior finishes and causes a mirror image of the interior surfaces/glare onto the front and rear windshields. The glare on the glass is very bright and makes it difficult to see traffic lights and traffic signs as well as any other object in the glare zone. The glare zone ranges between 20 to 50% of the windshield area. This design fault was corrected in other Nissan cars but not in the Altima. I have a 2004 SAAB 9-3. Today, I exited my car and when I closed the door, the adhesive holding the glass to my side view mirror failed(the mirror/glass fell to the ground). This is the first time this has happened to me. I feel that this is a serious concern because I use my mirrors all the time while driving and making safe lane changes. I now have a drivers side mirror(glass) that is no longer there. I feel this is a serious safety issue. Many people have certain medical issues that will not allow them to completely turn their neck/torso to the left to view oncoming traffic while trying to merge. If a person with said problem lost the ability to view their mirror they will be forced to blindly merge into lanes that they cannot be sure are clear and safe. I purchased my Volkswagen Gti March of this year. During ownership, I had the windows tinted and each time it was serviced by the dealership subcontractor, the windows were scratched. The door glass and rear window was replaced with the rear glass quarter being replaced twice. This was not the safety concern, but it leads to my main concern; the windshield. The glass of the windshield has now started to chip excessively. There are at least 40 chips that refract light during driving and it has been getting worse. I have taken it to the dealer and they state that it is "normal wear". I have contacted Volkswagen of America with no response. I have never had this type of glass issue with any vehicle I've owned, and I have owned nearly every make. Please advise. It was November 22, 2013 when this side/rear glass issue happened.

The vehicle was a 2008 Volvo C30. Front driver's seat headrest engaged visor in stowed position when seat pushed forward to enter rear seat. This caused the mirror inside the visor to shatter. We did not realize this had occurred until after my wife was driving, lowered the visor, and glass shards fell on her lap. Thankfully they did not fall in her face/eyes. This did not cause a wreck, but we're concerned that this could cause future accidents. We contacted Volvo USA, and they acknowledged prior reports of similar incidents, but stated that the damage was not covered by the warranty, and essentially they took no responsibility. This is unfortunate, as I believe this to be a critical design flaw that could cause a fatal accident. I notified Volvo USA that I had no choice but to file this claim with NHTSA, in an effort to alert other drivers of potential risks. This problem occurred on Friday, February 10, 2012.

The VIN of this vehicle was YV4992DZXA_. Rear window in 2010 Volvo Xc60 exploded after small impact into thousands of very sharp shards (not the "pebbles" as is supposed to happen). Shards were sent throughout the cabin including to the passenger seats, windscreen, speedo, etc. This does not seem the appropriate way for tempered glass to behave. The failure date was Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009.
