car   Steering Is Loose problem of Chevrolet Suburban

The vehicle is a 1988 Chevrolet Suburban. The VIN of this vehicle was 1GNER16K2J_. It was noticed that the p/s gearbox was separating from its mount on the vehicle frame as the steering wheel was moved. The steering became looser. It was discovered that the u-channel frame was cracked out in the areas of 3 of the 4 power steering gearbox mounts. These cracks had to be welded. A year an a half later a check of the welds was made from underneath the vehicle and a new crack was found. There was no commercially available doubler/stiffener repair plate available for this particular model. The frame should not crack under normal use. This issue happened on Monday, Nov. 1, 2010.

car   Steering Is Loose problem of Chevrolet Cruze

The vehicle was a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze. The steering does not feel stable. At various times mostly at highway speeds the steering feels as though there is no connection for a split second with the tie rod that controls the steering. The car will actually pull slightly and require correction from time to time. The pull can be either to the right or left and not related to any possible wind. The car had been taken to the dealer March 14, 2013, with no change in this situation. The feeling is similar to driving some of the old junks from days gone by back in the 60's where the steering was loose and required both hands firmly on the wheel and constant correction going down the road. This steering is loose problem happened on 02/25/2011.

car   Steering Is Loose problem of Chrysler Town & Country

The car was a 2003 Chrysler town and country. We purchased our 2003 town and country in January 2008 we were second owners of the vehicle. About a year after purchased noticed the power steering was beginning to stick and become undrivable. Would have to pull over or stop driving all together until the power steering loosened up. It would make a loud noise and not turn at all and as it began to loosen the noise would begin to become less and less, reported this information to the dealer and they said they could not find anything wrong. We are still having this issue and have taken back to the dealer and again same answer they can't find a problem. We have noticed that this occurs when the temperature drops below a certain degree but weather should not be affecting power steering of a car. We have tried to have this issue resolved and are still awaiting to have this problem addressed. It was 01/06/09 when this steering is loose issue happened.

car   Steering Is Loose problem of Dodge Ram 3500

The car was a 2006 Dodge Ram 3500. Driving approx 50mph northbound; heard a loud "bang" - truck started uncontrollable shaking and steering veered into oncoming (southbound) traffic; hit brakes hard and pulled steering to right - did not respond at 1st and then was able to pull off to the right as oncoming traffic had to stop for me - had to then turn steering wheel all the way to left to get truck to quit going right. Exited vehichle, looked under front of truck and right tie rod end was wedged up against inside of rht side tire. . Rht side front tie rod end came loose of socked and dropped causing loss of steering. Dealer did not have parts on hand to repair at that time. Personally went and bought parts and installed. Took to local tire dealer for alighment - could not get steering wheel totally straight and truck now "drifted" while driving. Never, ever, was steering loose on truck. Always tracked straight and true. Tires never wore to one side or other. Said steering box was damaged and could not align withing tolerance. Rec'd recall notice in December and took to dealer. Dearler was able to straighten steering wheel but said truck was still out of alighment due to steering box needing replacemen and stated that steering box was not damaged because of tie rod end coming loose. I absolutedly disagree. Problem did not exist prior to tie rod end falling out of socket and creating a possible fatal injury due to lack of control of vehicle. . It was Thu., Aug. 1, 2013 when this steering is loose issue happened.

car   Steering Is Loose problem of Dodge Avenger

The car involved was a 2013 Dodge Avenger. Noticed an issue with the steering when quickly picking up speed to pass a vehicle. The steering pulls fast to the right and feels as though the front end is fish tailing. Took the vehicle in to have it checked and was told this was normal. It is called torque steer and that all new vehicles do this. Trying to control the vehicle is extremely hard. Mine was checked, I was told it was bad and they did adjustments and an alignment as well as put the best 2 tires on the front. Within 2 weeks my car is doing this really bad again. My steering feels loose and the car is hard to handle at most speeds above 45 I feel as though I am driving on ice at all times. Whether or not this is normal is beyond me but it seems to be very dangerous when you can not control the steering in your vehicle. This steering is loose issue occurred 03/26/13.

car   Steering Is Loose problem of Ford Escape

The car was a 2008 Ford Escape. Hey back in December of 2013 I was driving home and I noticed the steering wheel started to shake. It wasn't a violent shake but it was noticeable. Now I knew I need my sway bar links replaced so I thought that was the issue. As we entered into 2014, (January) it was getting progressively worse. On 1/16/2014 (Thursday) that morning before I went to work, the steering wheel was stiff. So I had to cut the car off and cut it back on and it loosened up. I knew at that point that is wasn't the sway bar links. So that Friday (1/17/2014) I took it in to a car shop close to my house (wasn't a Ford dealership) and I was told that my electronic steering column was bad and that the sensor was dying. I couldn't understand why this was happening until I looked online and saw that I wasn't the only one with this problem. There are people all over this country and in canada who have had similar problems. To be exact the same problem!! Ford has not recalled this issue. I'm sure Ford has tons of people that review all online comments, so they have to know about this issue. This is dangerous because just today(1/21/2014) my fiance was driving to work and she came to a red light. When it was time to go, the steering wheel got stiff and made it hard to turn. The sensor went out and it was manual turning. She got to work and when her shift was over, she started the car and the steering was loose again. We can not drive like this and know one else with an Ford Escape should have to drive like this either. I also found out through various websites that 2008 was the first year they went to this electronic steering column. They couldn't have done the proper testing on this vehicle, I only have 63000 miles on this car and this should not be an issue so soon! please email me back and tell me what I need to do to make Ford recall this. Thank you. The failure date was Sun., Dec. 29, 2013.

car   Steering Is Loose problem of Ford F-250

The car was a 2006 Ford F-250 sd. The car had a crash. We were driving in a parking lot at a slow rate of speed when the steering let loose and we had no control of the truck. The truck crashed into a pole in the lot, and was unable to be moved due to loss of steering. It had to be towed away. Had this been a parking lot with cars and or people there would have been serious consequences. The impact from hitting the pole, caused my wife's neck to snap back and she has some strain in her neck. According to this link Ford has been having trouble with their steering and "death bump" action causing the trucks to shimmy out of control- we did not have any warning- just complete loss of steering> this needs to be addressed before someone is killed. This issue happened on Sunday, December 22, 2013.

It has became difficult to keep car straight when driving although I have not experienced a loss of power steering (yet). Possibly related to recall but it doesn't appear my VIN was included. car   Steering Is Loose problem of Saturn VUE

The car had a crash. May 2003, bought 03 Saturn Vue. June 2003: pointed out rattle in steering column. Told the wrong part had been installed, replacement part ordered/installed. 7/03, reported same rattling. Technician said it was same problem, but wrote down it was a noise in the dashboard. 9/03, rattle back. 9/28, steering seemed loose, went off the road twice going around curves. 9/29 driving to work, heard a loud rattle, then "thunk", then the steering pulled & I hit a parked car. Told Saturn dealer about accident, asked to check steering. Dealer said there was problem with the steering and "a part" was being ordered. Later called, said we hadn't told him car had been in an accident (we had) and they wouldn't touch it until engineer looked at it. Dealer refused to honor extended warranty we purchased, providing rental while car was in shop, until engineering team looked at the car. I was also told the "rack" had to be replaced. Saturn called 10/10, 4pm. Said engineer would look at car sometime following week. Said they had "backlog" and couldn't get to it sooner. 10/13, call from engineer saying nothing wrong with the steering, Saturn not at fault for the accident, would not reimburse for rental or cover deductible. But they would fix the steering under the warranty - the same steering that was not a problem?! I was told that the power steering pump had been replaced at the first visit. Then I was told that the steering column had been replaced at the first visit. Oct. 17, picked up the Vue from the Saturn dealer. Supposedly, the steering column was replaced. Steering wheel is now 20 degrees off center. When steering, there is a feeling of no control & way too much play. Turning the wheel produces a loud groaning sound. I would appreciate knowing if others are having these same problems. This issue happened on Sep. 29, 2003.

car   Steering Is Loose problem of BMW 540

The vehicle having this issue was a 2003 BMW 540i. Driving home one evening, I noticed a binding feeling being transmitted through the drive-train, drive-ability did not seem too affected, other than the odd bind being felt. The next morning upon start-up, the car began making a loud, rpm sensitive whining noise. I shut the car off and drove one of my others. When I opened the hood it was obvious that the serpentine belt was not aligned correctly. Through further observation, it was clear that the power steering pump mounts were broken. The broken mounts caused the pump to push forward and not be aligned. The belt was being chewed up in the process. While removing the pump I noticed that the bolts holding it in place were loose. These loose bolts were alarming and could have resulted in the power steering pump loosening even further cause the belt to jump. In my opinion, it is completely unacceptable for this to have happened. The fact that a molded piece of aluminum would fracture and break is alarming, and the loose bolts is even worse. It is very possible that the belt could have jumped (has happened to fellow 540i drivers) which would have resulted in no power steering. This problem occurred on Monday, November 12, 2012.

car   Steering Is Loose problem of BMW Z4

The VIN of this Z4 is 4USBT53413_. I own a 2003 BMW Z4 that is in excellent condition with has 27,000 miles on it and that i’ve have had since it was new. The car has never driven in winter and kept in a heated garage. I just got the car back from BMW service and repair. When the car was new, every once and a while the steering would get sticky or notchy, and extra force would have to be used to break the steering wheel loose and turn the wheel. It was very intermittent and happened very infrequently when new; however, the last year or so it has gotten much worse and happens whenever the car is driven. I recently took it to a dealer for repair and got it back yesterday. The dealer replaced part of the steering column at a cost of over $3,000. 00. It seems to have corrected the problem. I called BMW customer service to see if they would do something and assist with the repair cost and they basically gave me the finger because the car is out of warrantee. From reading on-line there is definitely a problem with the steering on these cars, otherwise so many people would not be complaining about the same thing. I don’t understand why BMW won’t admit there is a problem with the steering on these cars and step up to plate when it comes to the repair? these are not inexpensive kias!!! BMW is really hurting their customer relations with the individuals who own these cars. I know that this incident has damaged their reputation with me. My wife owns a Ford edge and we were thinking of replacing it with a new x3 next spring. Well guess what!!!!. This steering is loose problem happened on June 1, 2011.
