car   Crankshaft Position Sensor problem of Chevrolet Impala

The VIN of this vehicle was 2G1WH55K71_. We bought a Chevrolet Impala new in 2001. Within three years we experienced intermittent shutdowns of the car. Several times the auto just quit on expressways, but getting over to the side of the road we would turn the key off and then it would start perfectly. This occurred perhaps 5 times in the following 3-4 years. It was a dangerous situation. Finally we took it in to the dealership where they had it for 5 days finding nothing wrong. We started calling mechanics, contacted general motors executive offices (an amy green) and other sources. Several mechanics informed me to have the crankshaft sensor replaced. I "forced" the dealership to replace it and have not had a problem since. This was a dangerous situation as a shut down at high speeds a scary proposition. With all of gm's current (2014) handling of dangerous situations, we thought it time to comment on this one. Of course all this gm work was at our expense. I foolishly bought a new 2006 chev. Diesel 2500 pickup and had the whole back braking system rust up within 3 years, but that's a different story. It was Apr. 12, 2004 when this crankshaft position sensor issue happened.

car   Crankshaft Position Sensor problem of Chrysler Sebring

The vehicle is a 2007 Chrysler Sebring. Car has tmps and airbag lights constantly coming on for no reason - they stay on for days or weeks and then shut off. Both chrylser and independent mechanic have never been able to diagnose. Also, engine will lose all power while in operation at both freeway speeds and low residential speeds along with auto-start randomly not working. Chrysler and independent mechanic were not able to diagnose. Tried replacing alternator and still happened. Replaced crank shaft sensor after looking at online forums of similar stores from other Chrysler Sebring owners and still occasionally happens. Airbag light is now back on for no reason. . . Again. I know gm has been having numerous recalls yet mine has never been included in recalls for both my model and other makes/models having these issues. It is incredibly scary driving speeds of 75mph to lose all power. I have to pull brake, put the car in park and shut off/restart. I am constantly fearful of it happening and getting into a crash that could be fatal. This crankshaft position sensor issue occurred Wed., Jun. 1, 2011.

car   Crankshaft Position Sensor problem of Chrysler Crossfire

The vehicle having this issue was a 2004 Chrysler Crossfire. It begin not starting,so I have had fuel pump replaced, oil changes, battery check, fuel filter change, crank sensor replaced, to find out when the sensor was replaced,I have a wire harness defect,I have called all over trying to get this problem taken care of,but to no avail. This car,2004 Crossfire has all Mercedes Benz parts and I really believe this is very hazardous condition. My husband and I were driving and the car just cut off in the mist of the drive, its very dangerous, not only to me driving, but to people on the highway as well. I wish the chyrsler or mercedes dealers would come to an agreement to recall and fix the problems of this vehicle. This is not good business at all. It was 08/10/2012 when this crankshaft position sensor issue occurred.

car   Crankshaft Position Sensor problem of Dodge Intrepid

The car involved was a 2004 Dodge Intrepid. When driving any where any speed car will start hesitating then cut off. Sometimes if you let it sit for 15 mins it will turn back sometimes it will take longer. Very dangerous car and it's a shame to pay 487. 00 a month for a car that may very well cost you your life. In 2005 had to put it in the shop because it would not start back up. Our mechanic said it was the crank angle sensor but now in 2006 it doing it again. This problem occurred on January 20, 2006.

car   Crankshaft Position Sensor problem of GMC Envoy

2002 GMC Envoy slt. Engine stalls at highway speeds. Loss of power brakes and steering. Engine will not restart for anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes. This is the 5th time that this has happened to me in the past 4 years. 4 times on the freeway and once on a surface road. This time I was with my wife and 11 month old daughter. I was not able to pull the car over to a safe location. I ended up in the left shoulder in next to the fast lane with only about a foot of space to my right where the cars were whizzing by. I cannot tell you the terror that I felt, as my daughter was in her child car seat on that side as the cars passed honking. This vehicle is very unsafe. I have read many internet postings and it appears that this problem occurs often with this make and model, yet whenever I take the vehicle to the dealership all I get no codes are displayed, we cant duplicate the problem, or they start throwing parts at it. So far I have replaced a fuel pump and a crank angle sensor, had the fuel injectors cleaned. The problem persists. I want to make sure that my description is clear. The engine temperature is normal, voltage is normal, outside temperature can be hot, warm or cold, it can be day or night. It has happened in all of these conditions. What is worse is that I cannot restart the engine for around 20-30 minutes, presumably there is some sort of reset on the computer ecm/pcm that occurs that grants me the right to now drive my vehicle again? this is unacceptable. My daughter, my wife or I could have been injured or even killed. I have never complained about this before except to the dealer but now that I have a baby, I am livid. I am a very experienced driver and have always been able to pull the vehicle to safety even without the power assisted brakes or steering. I very much worry about less experienced drivers such as my wife who is from a foreign country and has only been driving for two years. If she had been driving we would have. This problem occurred on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008.

car   Crankshaft Position Sensor problem of Hyundai Santa Fe

The car involved was a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe. I was driving down the road going about 40 to 45 miles an hour on a busy road. I had my grandchildren in the car with me. The car all of a sudden shut off on me. Thank god I had enough momentum to pull over on the side of the road. I couldn't get the car to start so I sat there with them praying I wouldn't get hit. After a while it started up again and I went maybe two feet and it died again. I was able to roll into an empty garage and I called my husband. There was an auto zone near by so he got a machine which said what was wrong. It said it was the crankshaft sensor. My car is now being fixed at a Hyundai dealer. I went on line for recalls and I found one that said there was a recall on them but not for my vehicle. If it was on one vehicle year why wouldn't my year be covered. My family could have been killed because of the vehicle stopping all of a sudden on a main rd. Like I was on. We have kept up with all the recalls that they send us. This crankshaft position sensor problem happened on November 7, 2013.

car   Crankshaft Position Sensor problem of Hyundai Santa Fe

The 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe v6 will either not start, stall when moving or run extremely rough. The problem is more noticeable when it is raining or humid out. We are the original owner of the Santa Fe and have maintained the vehicle. This has been a reoccurring problem for the past eight years. The issues comes and go but have been more constant over the past four years. In the past, I have replaced the battery and had a tune up performed by the lester glenn Hyundai dealership. I bought the Santa Fe in service several times for this problem to be told they can not find the problem. On our last visit to the dealership they believed it was due to old spark plug wires. The tune up did not resolve the issue at all. As I researched the problem and became aware of Hyundai recall 049 which replaces the crankshaft position sensor. I spoke to Hyundai and they explained my vehicle was not part of the recall due to its production date. However, the problems I am experiencing is exactly identical to the problem specified in the recall. Hyundai needs to expand the perimeters of the recall to resolve this problem. This crankshaft position sensor issue occurred 07/03/13.

I was driving my kids to school and this suddenly happened. The car turned on immediately and drove back home. I thought it might have been some issue with the fuel. I drove it again and this happened to me once more, the vehicle just suddenly shuts off. I went to the dealer to see what the problem was and was told after being checked that there was a recall for the same car and year for the cam & crank sensors but needed to make sure this car was part of it. To my surprise it wasn't! why would they recall same year and model but not mine? my vehicle stalls on the road and could have seriously gotten injured due to this malfunction. Please help us out. Thank you!. This crankshaft position sensor issue occurred Aug. 2, 2012.

car   Crankshaft Position Sensor problem of Jeep Grand Cherokee

The car involved was a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Vehicle cranking long before starting, dealer diagnostic was tipm, Jeep was contacted they agreed they has issues with part mentioned and agreed in provide part w/$100 deductible, I still paid for the cranking sensor and labor, new tipm created more electrical problems. When turning signal was activated fog lights were blinking but not the turning lights, taken back to dealer they temporary fix the problem until Jeep releases the new update in at least 2 months, after they fixed the turning lights another issued resulted, now the stop tail brake lights don't turn on if ignition switch is not in on position and sometimes even with the engine running , or if engine is not running. This issue concerns me a lot, since this is very critical if driving on highway and engine stop working how I will let the vehicles behind me that I have an emergency and I'm stepping on the brakes, lights will not turn on. Are you people from NHTSA waiting until fatalities happen to force Jeep to make a recall and fix the problems. ? there are thousands of vehicles with failures related to this tipm , please prevent people die in crashes for this issue and do something about it. Now my car is in the dealer again because they can properly fix it, and all related to this new tipm. These corporation was already bailout with our tax money, now they are passing the cost of repairs to people who purchased a defective product, it is very suspicious that all of the tipm went bad, between 50,000 and 60,000 miles just after warranty has expired. . . Please do something. This crankshaft position sensor issue occurred Oct. 21, 2013.

car   Crankshaft Position Sensor problem of Jeep Cherokee

The vehicle was a 1996 Jeep Cherokee. While leaving home from work, the vehicle started to shutter and fail. I managed to get home at a speed of 40mph since I noticed that at a higher speed, the vehicle would try to stall. The next day I tried to turn on the vehicle but it would not turn on. I called a certified mechanic and received instructions thru cell phone to shake a bit the cables to computer components and cables to distributor components. The vehicle turned on but with problems. I managed to drive to mechanic shop where the Cherokee was left for testing and repairs. The diagnostics showed a faulty computer. The computer was replaced. About three months later, the vehicle stalled again at a cross road and turned off. A truck nearly struck me because I couldn't get out on time. The mechanic had to show up at the site and had some problems starting the Cherokee. The diagnostics, another blown computer. The mechanic ordered another computer with upgrade (had to wait about a month) original crank shaft sensor was added. All seemed to work well until yesterday oct/2/2013 when I went out for a ride with my son and the Cherokee stalled and turned off. The same symptoms as before. I have spent about $1,000. 00 trying to get my Jeep Cherokee to run properly and now I'm afraid to take it out to the street. I have a family of 4 and I worry that the Cherokee would fail me by stalling again at a crossroad causing a fatal accident to me or my family because of this electrical failure. All cables were checked for shorts but nothing solves the problem. I did some recall search but nothing official although some Jeep grand Cherokee users report the same problems for their 4. 0l engine (my Jeep Cherokee is also 4. 0l) coincidence? I love my Cherokee but feel that I can't rely anymore on it as for safety. Had it for about 6 years without problems the first 5 years. It was Friday, March 8, 2013 when this crankshaft position sensor issue occurred.

car   Crankshaft Position Sensor problem of Mercedes Benz ML430

The vehicle is a 1999 Mercedes Benz Ml430. December 11, 2013 I was driving home from work my benz quit on me in the road would not start back (my home is within 2 miles of my work) the day before it had quit as I was making a turn but restarted a couple of days prior I had the car warming and it shut off while warming up but restarted. There was no lights on the instrument dash panel lit or staying lit. After some internet investigating I assume it was the crankshaft position sensor as it had all the signs that others have had I purchased one for the repair shop to install. They have installed it but believe there is a problem with the crankshaft so I am not currently driving it. I am afraid to drive it with it quitting without any type of warning. My benz has less than 65k I don't have the current mileage with me at this time but if it is needed please let me know. This crankshaft position sensor problem happened on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013.

car   Crankshaft Position Sensor problem of Mercedes Benz E320

The vehicle was a 2004 Mercedes Benz E320. While traveling on the washington DC beltway in the fast lane, in heavy traffic, the engine completely shut down leaving us stranded in very heavy traffic. Needless to say, this was a very precarious position. Fortunately, police assistance arrived and called a towing service and got us out of harm's way. The problem was diagnosed as a failed crank shaft position sensor. This results in the computer turning off the ignition creating an obviously hazardous situation. I reported this to mercedes customer service, but they're reaction was that this occurs infrequently, but they were aware that it does happen. So I am notifying you for your information. This issue happened on 05/12/2013.

car   Crankshaft Position Sensor problem of Nissan Altima

The vehicle is a 2005 Nissan Altima. Problem begun by my vehicle being hard to start. You could attempt to start the car for 5 or so minutes without success. You could wait about 10 minutes and try again and the vehicle would eventually start but run pretty rough. It would also perform with poor power during operation. The problem got worse when the "service engine soon" light came on. Now the engine shuts down while you are driving. This has happened on 4 to 5 different occasions. The engine will re-start but runs rough. I'm afraid that this could happen at the wrong place and time my wife and family can be hurt or killed. I read a recall on defect of the crank position sensor which causes the identical symptoms that my car has but when I took it to cannon Nissan at jackson ms. The service manager told me that my 2005 Nissan Altima was not included in that recall. What can be done to correct this? please give me a response on this if you can at [xxx] or [xxx]. Thank you in advance for your care and assistance. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6). car   Crankshaft Position Sensor problem of Nissan Altima

The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) is 1N4AL11D85_. Hi, I am the owner of a 2005 Nissan Altima. I have owned this car since 2008. I reviewed service records from 2005 prior to my purchase. There has been an extremely large amount of issues with this vehicle. The most recent of which is the "grey" area of the ecm issue in coordination with famous the camshaft crankshaft fault p0355 & p0131. I'm an engineer and fully understand the mechanics of a vehicle. This sensor was a faulty design from the beginning in which oil could enter inside the sensor, therefore causing a short and disabling the entire vehicle while in motion. This actually happened to me and was a terrifying experience. To fix the issue cheaply, Nissan issued a recall to reprogram the ecm in order to recognize the “faulty” crankshaft sensor part. But in order to save millions of dollars, Nissan would not include the warrantied replacement of the faulty crankshaft sensor design (magnet sensor). Instead, the consumer (myself) would have to pay between $300 & $450 to have the sensor replaced with the “new & improved version”. New and improved means the properly designed version. The initial design should have been recalled but it wasn’t. It doesn’t take an engineer to figure this out but I am one and fully understand the “big picture” of the recall and lack of inclusion of the crankshaft sensor repairs. I am requesting Nissan to cover the full cost of the camshaft & crankshaft sensor & the associated labor. I was put in harm’s way during the initial recall issue in which my car shut off while on the highway. That is a bad enough experience. I am not willing to also pay Nissan $400 to repair the faulty sensor which was a large part of why this occurred in the first place. This problem occurred on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014.

car   Crankshaft Position Sensor problem of Subaru Legacy

The VIN of this Legacy is 4S3BD4354T_. I have a 1996 Subaru Legacy l with an intermittent engine miss with a p0304 (miss in cylinder 4) code. Most of the time it runs fine but when it misses, it is very violent. It seems to resonate. Changing speed usually makes it go away. When it first started, it only occurred once a month. Over the past year, and after several mechanics visits, it now occurs nearly every trip. I have replaced spark plugs (yes ngk), spark plug wires (Subaru original equipment), gas filter, air filter, coil, pcv valve, knock sensor, cam and crankshaft sensors. The injectors have been swapped between cylinders. I have been to an independent mechanic twice. On the second trip he gave up and advised I go to a Subaru dealer. After two visits to the Subaru dealer, I've spent several hundred additional dollars and still have the problem. They replaced plugs, knock, cam, and crankshaft sensors. Doesn't Subaru have diagnostics to identify what this problem is. I took the car to them with the expectation that they could identify what is wrong instead of just replacing highly suspect parts. They don't seem to be doing any better than I have done on my own. I've seen others post problems here and at edmunds with driveability issues. I've never seen a posting that indicated it was actually solved. Surely Subaru knows about this problem and has a fix. It has gone from an annoyance to a safety issue. Does anyone have any suggestions? are some Subarus just lemons?. It was Monday, Sep. 2, 2002 when this crankshaft position sensor issue happened.

car   Crankshaft Position Sensor problem of Toyota Tacoma

The VIN of this Tacoma is 5TEWM72N83_. I purchased my 2003 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 in may of 2003 in which as of this date of 12. 29. 06 my truck has 43k miles on it and is in excellant condition. Over the course of the past 6 months I have had to spend thousands of dollars on this truck and still can not drive it. I have had to put a brandnew crankshaft kit in my truck due to the keyway on the crankshaft shearing off resulting in my truck shutting down. After inspecting my truck by a certified mechanic the key was not there after it had sheared off in which parts had moved forward and ground into the metal. After the crankshaft replacement I continued to have more and more problems with the truck. I have replaced the crankshaft, harmonic balancer, new fan, oil pump because the truck will not hold oil pressure, mass air flow sensor, crank sensor, cam sensor's, re-setting of the computer and labor cost. I picked my truck up on a Friday after it came back from huntersville, nc at lake norman Toyota in which the truck was hooked up and was given a clean bill of health but, the truck left me stranded once again on Sunday night at 7:00 pm in which I had to have a roll back pick it up for the fourth time. The oil light came on when the engine would idle less than 1k rpms in which it then finally had to be shut off as soon as I heard this due to the sounds of metal rubbing metal. The truck is now located at leatherman auto located in newton, nc (828. 465. 5269) in which the owner, scott has not made any repairs to this truck yet. The check engine light has came on in all four instances as well as the oil light and other lights and I then loose control of my truck due to it shutting down. I was on I-40 traveling at 65-70 mph when my truck started jerking again and then I lost my power steering again and had to fight with the truck to get it off the road. The truck is stalling out in which I am in fear of either myself or one of my family members becoming injured or possibly killed because of this instance. It was Dec. 1, 2006 when this crankshaft position sensor issue occurred.

It was the scariest day, we towed the car back home even though it was starting again due to the fact that there was something seriously wrong with the vehicle. On 25th March 2011 I started the car in the morning then I saw the check engine light on dash board for the first time, and dropped it off at fox automotive dealer in rochester hills mi. Where they were not curtious in dealing with this problem, and found the engine speed sensor [crank angle sensor] was found broken, replacement of the same seem to have resolved the issue. However the main concern is the obd did not work when it saw several misfires and engine speed issues, which could have prevented my wife and baby not to drive to work on freeway, this is a serious concern. It is essential that vw dealer should also address such serious issues with some concern and importance where they did not give any oppertunity for me to drop off the vehicle for repair the same day I towed the vehicle back from my wifes office, after few days of gap I was able to drop the vehicle where they worked on it after few days of wait time, they even recommended me to drive back the car with check engine light if I need vehicle the same day or early. I request the USA govt to look into this matter immediately. This problem occurred on Apr. 20, 2011.

car   Crankshaft Position Sensor problem of Audi TT

In November of 2010, I was driving in my 2004 1. 8 Audi Tt at approximately 45 miles per hour. Without warning, the car lost all power in the middle of the road. Fortunately, the car lost power at 1:00 am or I may have been easily hit/killed by the heavy flow of daytime traffic. As it turns out, there was an ignition coil recall on my vehicle. I never received notice of such recall and as a result, was put in danger by operating a vehicle with a known defect and suffered over two thousand dollars in related repair expense. The mechanic at Audi told me my fuel pump, collant temp sensor, crank sensor and ignition coil needed to be replaced. He was quite surprised the the previous Audi dealership did not correct the recall during routine service. My vehicle was perfectly maintained, serviced by an Audi dealership and had approximately 32,000 miles. Failure of Audi to notify me of the recall and failure of the Audi dealership to correct the ignition coil during routine service could have resulted in grave injury. Both Audi corp and the individual Audi dealership displayed a careless disregard for my safety and any others who may have been impacted by my vehicle failure. This problem occurred on Sun., Nov. 28, 2010.

car   Crankshaft Position Sensor problem of Cadillac CTS

The vehicle having this issue was a 2003 Cadillac Cts. Starting around September, my car would randomly shut off while in motion, at various speeds. After hundreds of dollars in diagnostic fees, I found some Cadillac forums stating it was a crank shaft sensor malfunction, which is common in 2003 models. My car would also show the traction control was off with no warning, and not get out of gear while being on, with no warning as well. The computer system would show low oil pressure and other warnings although nothing was wrong. And lastly, at around 78,000 miles, while driving 70 on a highway, the car make a huge bang, and smoke erupted, almost causing me to crash on the highway. All the oil leaked out, and the car won't start. I'm being told to replace my entire engine because of a possible head gasket, which according to multiple forums, tends to be faulty in the '03 models. These should obviously be recalled if so many cars are affected. I'm paying over 5000 dollars in repairs and costs for this. I refuse to ever let anyone I know, as well as myself, purchase another Cadillac, unless this gets resolved. This crankshaft position sensor problem happened on 09/20/12.
