car   Instrument Panel problem of Chevrolet Malibu

The vehicle involved is a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. I have several complaints about this car that I believe to be manufacturer defects. The most serious issue I found today (4/19/2014) when I smelled gas outside of my car. Upon looking underneath my car I found my gas tank leaking onto my exhaust pipe. I consider this to be a recall issue because there is absolutely no damage to the undercarriage of my car. One of the other serious issues I have found with my car include a brake light issue. My car was occasionally showing a "service traction/ esc" error code, which could not be explained by any mechanic or even a chevy dealership themselves. It wasn't until a friend following me pointed out that my brake lights didn't seem to be working right, did I realize I was having an issue. The brake lights do the exact opposite of what they should, but only on the occasions said error code is showing. I looked into the issue online and found this to be a common problem. Chevy has not been able to give me a solution to this problem. The third major safety issue I'd like to point out, I know from experience is not exclusive to my car. When I sit in the passenger seat of my Malibu, among every Malibu I have ever been, the passenger side airbag does not turn on. I am 26 and weigh 94lbs, so I don't know if my size is the reason I do not engage the airbag!? the final defect I had to deal with involved my driver side rim. I had a tiny little hair line crack on the inside of my rim, causing me to loose a lot of air in my tire. I consider this a manufacturer defect because my rim was not damaged in any other way shape or form. I had a hard time obtaining a new rim, because (according to everyone I called) the rim was in high demand. Please look into these issues and consider adding them to gm's current recall list. Thank you for reviewing my concerns. . . Updated 04-23-14. It was Sat., Apr. 19, 2014 when this instrument panel issue occurred.

car   Instrument Panel problem of Chrysler 300

The vehicle having this issue was a 2010 Chrysler 300. I was traveling north on hwy I-81 in state of virginia with the cruise control set on 70 mph which is the speed limit. I was traveling in line with the traffic I. E. , several vehicles in front of me, several vehicles behind me, and several semi-trucks on my right lane, all as a group, no one passing anyone, but in close proximity to each other, ie. , the vehicle in front of me was approximately 4 to 5 vehicle spaces in front of me, the ones to my rear were approximately 2 to 3 vehicle spaces, and the semi-trucks were right in line with me one behind the others in close proximity to each other. I was stopped by a state trooper who stated that I was traveling at 85 mph in a 70 mph zone and wanted to know if there was a reason for that. I explained that I had no reason since I had my cruise control on 70 mph. He gave me a traffic citation for reckless driving. Upon my return to kentucky, I took my vehicle in to my dealer to have the speedometer and cruise control checked. My dealer's technician could not replicate the problem. They ran a 23 point check (whatever that means) and could not find anything wrong. I believe that there is a problem between the cruise control and the speedometer. Either they are not synchronized or there is a problem with an electronic sensor or something like that. I would like somebody knowledgeable with problems of this nature to investigate to see what caused this. I will not use the cruise control again until someone guarantees to me that there is absolutely no problem here. The failure date was Sunday, November 4, 2012.

car   Instrument Panel problem of GMC Envoy

The instrument panel cluster on my GMC Envoy 2004 is defective as it is on a multitude of other gm models between 2003 and 2005. One of the consequences is that the speedometer will not work or will report a faulty reading while operating the vehicle. This is an unsafe driving condition and for some reason gm has not yet issued a recall on this problem for GMC Envoys of the year 2004 even though other years of this model and other models of gm vehicles have been recalled for this exact issue. Please help gm do the right thing by it's Envoy owners. We have certainly bailed them out enough. There is another potentially deadly consequence of this issue. If one were to be driving the vehicle at 60mph using cruise control and the speedometer were to all of a sudden peg itself to 20mph, there would be a sudden and abrupt acceleration as the computer in the car attempted to regain 60mph even though the vehicle was already at that speed. Thank you for your time and attention to this dangerous speed control issue. . [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6). The failure date was Mar. 14, 2014.

car   Instrument Panel problem of Honda FIT

The vehicle involved was a 2013 Honda Fit. In daytime driving, on a bright day the instruments can not be read. There is no control to increase brightness of the instrument cluster in daytime driving. Only by turning on headlights can a brightness control for the dashboard be activated but the brightest setting is still to dim to allow the instruments to be read in strong ambient lighting conditions. I believe this is a safety issue because a driver is unable to read speed, fuel or tell if warning lights are on. This instrument panel issue occurred 01/01/2014.

car   Instrument Panel problem of Hyundai Santa Fe

The vehicle was a 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe. Note: it is at pretty much all speeds and not just 55 that the variation can be seen between devices and the vehicle. I purchased this used with 29k miles on it. I noticed on the drive back from MD to PA that the speed on the speedometer was different than my tomtom gps. A friend was driving in a separate car and so I called them and tried to identify their speed to mine and it seemed off to theirs as well. I took the car into the Hyundai dealer in the next month or so to ask them to adjust the speedometer to which I was told it cannot be altered. Well here I am over a year later and every single gps based system I have put into my car, another tomtom, my sons garmin, my wife's garmin, my new garmin and my phone all are in synch with each other. The problem is that my Santa Fe is always stating I am traveling about 3 mph faster than all these other devices. If this is the case then this would show a higher number of miles being driven that what is actually occurring. I drive 20-25k miles a year and this would most definitely add up over the life of the vehicle thus showing me to be out of warranty sooner than would be expected. Why does every electronic device show the same speed but my car is telling me I'm going faster?. This instrument panel problem happened on 04/16/2012.

car   Instrument Panel problem of Hyundai Veloster

The vehicle is a 2013 Hyundai Veloster. The speedometer and tachometer dashboard instruments are almost unreadable by persons with red-green color blindness. Approximately 5% to 10% of the male population is red-green color blind (0. 5% to 1% for females). The speedometer and tachometer dials are black with white lettering and deep red needles to point at the lettering. That deep red on a black background is almost invisible. If I spend time searching, I can find the needle, but it is very unsafe to take one's eyes off the road for the length of time it takes to find the almost invisible needle. An argument of, "if you can't read the instruments, get a different car," is not reasonable because the car one is driving is not always one's own car, such as it may be an employer's car or (the way I discovered this problem) it may be a rental car, and there are many other scenarios where one did not choose the car one has to drive. Since 5% to 10% of the male population has this color vision deficiency, I cannot believe that Hyundai never discovered the problem, but chose styling over safety. I also suspect this problem is not limited to Hyundai. This problem occurred on October 15, 2013.

car   Instrument Panel problem of Kia Motor Sorento

The car is a 2014 Kia Motor Sorento. I cannot see the speedometer needle on . Bright days. I found myself staring at the speedometer trying to see my speed for way too long ( 4 seconds or more). It is extremely difficult to see the needle as it is a 1/2inch dark red tip against a dark black background. If there is any ambient light striking the instrument cluster at an angle, the reflection masks my ability to see the needle. Not having an accurate indication of my speed or staring at the speedometer for too long of a time is a very dangerous situation. The dealer said there is nothing he can do as the manufacturer will have to correct the problem. This instrument panel problem happened on May. 15, 2013.

car   Instrument Panel problem of Lexus LX470

The vehicle identification number (VIN) is JTJHT00W74_. I own a 2004 Lexus Lx470. The center console instrument array had to be replaced twice since I purchased the vehicle. There was no crash or accident. But when it died, there is no functionality of the speedometer, heater, ac, radio. It was replaced both times, the first time under warranty. The second time, the dealer replaced it outside of warranty free of charge. I was told it would have cost over $4500. 00. The fact that they replaced it at no charge to me after the warranty expired makes me suspicious this is not an uncommon occurrence. This instrument panel problem happened on Jun. 1, 2008.

car   Instrument Panel problem of Lincoln MKZ

Letter from senator nelson re constituent regarding 2008 Lincoln Mkz ( reference constituent for their records). The consumer stated slightly for more than a year, three safety warning lights illuminated on the dashboard. They were the traction-stability, abs, and brake warning lights. The first time the consumer returned to the dealer, they stated the computer did not detect any malfunction, and to bring the vehicle back, when the lights came back on. Thiswas dangerous as it took attention away from the road many times. The dealer stated that was the way itwas built, but cannot Lincoln come up with a retrofit fix? their engineers should take a ride in a late model Honda accord to see what the panel should look like in the daylight. car   Instrument Panel problem of Mercury Montego

The VIN of this vehicle is 1MEHM43165_. The instrument gauge on my 2005 Mercury Montego just went "dead". Nothing registered, so there was no reading on my speed, engine heat gauge, fuel level, or tachometer. This happened once in early spring of this year (2012), but did not repeat until recently. It is now June and the same thing has re-occurred about 10 times in the past two weeks. After turning the car off and restarting, this sometimes (but not always), "fixes" the problem. Most recently, if the gauges do work, the "check engine" light turns on. The airbag light stays on, and the awd malfunction message displays in the information panel until I hit the reset button. From a safety perspective, is this a short in the system or is my airbag really malfunctioning? and how do I know my speed other than to guess?. This instrument panel issue occurred Jun. 6, 2012.

car   Instrument Panel problem of Mitsubishi Raider

The vehicle involved is a 2006 Mitsubishi Raider. Bought a 2006 mitsibushi Raider broke down the first day I took it home. Should have told them to shove it then. I had a friend that worked there and trusted her that they would fix the problem. Got the truck back and the whole speedometer broke. It wouldn't go into drive or park. Just sit there like it was in neutral. I drove more rental cars and cars off their lot than I probably have drove the truck. It continues to do the same thing over and over again. I believe the last count was 15 times in the shop for the same thing. Everyone keeps telling me you have a warranty don't worry about it. Well it's aggravating when it keeps messing up and you don't have it to begin with because its in the shop. I was rear ended and side swipe so now they want to say that is why I'm having problems and don't want the truck. I didn't want it before but got the run around. I don't pay good money for something that is a piece of ?!@#$%. This problem occurred on Tue., Nov. 28, 2006.

car   Instrument Panel problem of Toyota Venza

The vehicle having this issue was a 2013 Toyota Venza. My Venza has a metric speedometer with mph numbers painted on the same face as the metric ones the problem I have is that in the day time the mph numbers are almost impossible to read due to the paint rendering them too dull . This is a major driving distraction due to it taking the drivers focus off the road. Maybe Toyota should go to a digital readout that converts the display to show only mph when needed . Thank you for allowing me time to vent. . . This instrument panel issue occurred 04/09/14.

The vehicle involved was a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of this Volkswagen Jetta is 3VWLL7AJ0B_. I was on my way home after work approximately 6-7 pm doing 45 mph. I looked down to my instrument cluster to check my speed to make sure I wasn't speeding. Then I saw the glow plug light blinking multiple times then about less than 5-10 seconds later my engine cut out. I cost off into a harper college parking lot came to a stop. I tried to start the car 2-3 times, each time the engine was crackin over but wouldn't start it up. I called the tow truck company and had the vehicle towed to vw dealer in schaumburg, IL ( fox valley vw) dealer said the high pressure fuel pump failed. Vwoa cover this under power train warranty 5/60k warranty. The dealer replace hpfp, lift pump, pump in gas tank, fuel lines to engine, coils etc. . . Repairs came to roughly $5300. 00. car   Instrument Panel problem of Volvo S40

The car was a 2006 Volvo S40. Driving in rain, brake failure message began flashing on dash, then airbag failure. Slowed to a stop and turned off car, turned back on and drove slowly home. Messages continued to flash. Drove to service center and messages were no longer flashing , mechanic said it would need to be active to find problem. Same scenario many times since and the problem has become worse, driving down highway and messages appear then all gauges on panel fail and go to zero, windows fail, blinkers, brake lights fail, entire instrument panel went dark. Back to mechanic, he drove it same thing happened then stopped before returning to shop so could not diagnose. Extremely dangerous as several times driving in rain and in high traffic areas and on freeways with high speeds and then in construction zones bumper to bumper with no brake lights or ability to use turn signals. Has been out for five to thirty minutes at a time then appearing to work again before repeating the same failure problem. Never any warning, it just happens suddenly. To mechanic again, codes read and printed out pages of signal failures, none active at time so unable to determine problem. Check engine light has also appeared and when checked nothing active found at time other than pages of signal failures in system. This instrument panel problem happened on 03/10/12.

car   Instrument Panel problem of Audi A6

The car involved was a 2000 Audi A6. The center instument cluster has been in and out for as long as I have owned the car. Some days, when the planets align correctly, the display will be mostly visible. On most days, however, most pixels are not visible, some are faded, and certain critical warnings cannot be seen. . . You can hear the beeping, but have no clue what is failing! if this were a plug and play part I would have replaced it by now. . . But the whole thought of having to solder the lcd in discourages a fix. This is an inherent issue with the c5 line. . . Cannot believe Audi has never recalled for this issue! clearly this is a problem. This issue happened on July 2, 2007.

car   Instrument Panel problem of Audi A4

The car involved is a 2005 Audi A4. 1) headlights are the main problem. The car has the type of lights that move when turning the wheel. Occasionally, the headlights will “flicker whether or not you are turning the steering wheel but will remain on. This is a nuisance but may be related to the next, larger problem. The larger problem is, almost every night there will be a “headlight dip warning signal on the instrument panel. When this happens rarely will the headlights stay on anymore. They used to do so, but now one or both of the headlights will frequently turn off. We used to be able to “override this by moving the headlight switch on the dash from the auto to the manual mode and off mode. However, now we have to switch back and forth multiple times before the headlights turn back on and it takes a lot longer now than it used to. (the headlights are staying off for longer periods. ) also, even when you leave the headlight switch in the manual mode (rather than use the auto mode at all), the headlights will still dip and turn off. This instrument panel issue occurred 06/01/10.

car   Instrument Panel problem of Buick Rainier

The vehicle involved is a 2004 Buick Rainier. After driving for a approximately one hour at 65-70 mph on the interstate the speedometer reading drops off from 70 eventually down to 0 mph. Upon stopping and restarting the engine at a rest stop the speedometer returns to an accurate reading for a short while. I relied on my garmin gps to give me a speed approximation when the speedometer went out completely. Relying on a accurate speedometer is a critical safety issue especially at night. Without the gps giving me a speed reading it would be next to impossible to judge a safe speed in the darkness on a road illuminated only by my headlights. This defect must be similar to other models in the gm family, trailblazer and envoy. If one person were to rely on this faulty speedometer they might think they were driving 40 when in actuality they could be driving in excess of 70. This instrument panel problem happened on Wednesday, October 31, 2012.

car   Instrument Panel problem of Buick Rainier

The vehicle involved was a 2005 Buick Rainier. The speedometer has begun registering significantly higher speeds than the vehicle is traveling. At one point, a gps device in the vehicle indicated a speed of 55, and the speedometer for the vehicle registered more than 100 mph. In other cases, when standing still, the speedometer showed a speed of 35 mph. Subsequently, and intermittently, the speedometer works correctly, and then reverts to defective mode. Gm advised that the vehicle was out of warranty and that the cost of repair would have to be borne by the vehicle owner, even if it was a safety issue. A gm dealer in vermont indicated that the entire "bundle" for the instrument panel would have to be replaced. When given the ok to proceed, the dealership said that new bundles were no longer available, and rebuilt bundles would have to be used - and none were currently available. They suggested leaving the vehicle, removing the bundle and sending it away for rebuilding, and then installing it back into the vehicle. I declined that offer. The defective speedometer problem continues today, and I have to believe that the unavailability of new bundles, if correct, means that this is likely a widespread problem and potentially major safety issue. This instrument panel issue occurred 02/06/2012.

car   Instrument Panel problem of Jaguar XJ8

My 2001 Jaguar Xj8 has less than 42,000 miles on it. . . While driving at an approximate speed of 30 mph, it suddenly slowed to barely a crawl, and the instrument panel stated that the vehicle had no abs and trac power. Fortunately, I was on main streets and not a highway, as this could have been detrimental to both my safety and the motoring public in general. After going online to research this problem, I am finding similar complaints. I have not yet taken it to a repair shop, but my research shows that a module would need to be replaced at a cost of $1500!!! this defect should be recalled and fixed by the manufacturer. This problem occurred on Thu., Dec. 20, 2007.
