The car involved was a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. Vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle is 2D8HN54P08_. I purchased my van in March of 2009 from lee Chrysler. It was a one owner with some warranty left on it. A week or two, maybe less my husband and I had problems with the keyless entry keys not opening the van. After several trips to the dealership that problem was resolved. From that time on, every few months there was another problem. I have all the documentation, as to when all the work was done and what. When I purchased the van the previous owners had already replaced the brakes and starter. I found this out when I had to replace the brakes October 2011 and the starter in the spring of 2012. Since these items were under warranty in 2008, the first time they were replaced, I think it was the dealerships place to tell me that this work had been done. In July 2013 the ignition stopped working and I had to have it replaced. Lee Chrysler doesn't have cars to loan, I had to rent one at my expense. They ordered and repaired the ignition, then my keys would not program to the new ignition, so I had to wait, paying for the rental another 3 days for them to order new keys, at my expense. The company should have know that old keys, the type I have, would not program to a new ignition. This is just the things that I have receipts for. The recalls I don't have all of them, but you have that list. I think since the company sold me a bad van in the beginning that they should help me get into a vehicle I could afford to replace this one. Ok I know you say why didn't I contact you or someone before now. I did write to Chrysler CO. In 2010 and they said they were sorry I was unhappy with my van, but there wasn't anything they could do. I also sent them a e-mail. They will not do anything, my van only has 70,000 miles on it. Thank you for your time. This issue happened on Wednesday, March 25, 2009.

The car involved was a 1994 Dodge Dakota. The VIN of this vehicle was 1B7GL23X0R_. Front left door snapped off. I can't open the drivers door from the inside. Also, both seat belts snapped, the air and heat doesn't work, the brakes locked up, which affected the steering. The transmission was replaced three timed, the vehicle would loose power and the engine would die. The catalytic converter rattled. There was a rough idle and then the vehicle would stall. The cruise control was inoperative, the tires wore out prematurely. Also, I had difficulty getting the vehicle out of park. The idler arm is in the process of breaking, the ignition broke after the keys became stuck, the fuel pump failed and the bearing and bushing needs to be replaced. The failure date was 01/01/2007.

The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) was 5NPEC4AB2C_. 2012 Hyundai Sonata. Consumer states concern with electronic ignition system and the lack of an engine kill switch. The consumer stated he had no way of shutting down the vehicle if the computer system accelerated or if he encountered a stuck gas pedal. The consumer wants to know, that he has a positive means of manually shutting down the vehicle in an emergency situation. The consumer would like a clear explanation of the push button engine star/stop switch. He would like to know is it a computer function or a manual electrical disconnect to the vehicle electronics. Also, if it is a computer function, will the dealer install a manual toggle switch under the dash that will kill all electrical power to the vehicle. This problem occurred on Saturday, September 1, 2012.

The vehicle involved is a 2012 Hyundai Tucson. Crash happened when the problem occurred. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of the car was KM8JU3AC1C_. This car has an automatic transmission and it pulls out of park very easily with no key in the ignition or foot on the brake. This led to my car rolling down a hill and hitting a tree with no one in the drivers seat. When I went to the dealer they tried this on another car in the lot and it did the same thing. I was told by Hyundai corporate offices that this is a "campaign" item. I can not find this problem listed and I think it should be addressed before it leads to injury or death. This ignition problem happened on Friday, July 13, 2012.

The car was a 1999 Infiniti Qx4. Vehicle identification number (VIN): JNRAR07Y8X_. The ignition key, at times, would not rotate so as to allow the driver to start the vehicle. Vehicle was repaired by an Infiniti dealer who could not explain what was wrong with the ignition key or assembly, or why the part failed. As a safety issue I asked Infiniti USA to look into the matter and they pretty much gave me the "brush-off" without any explanation. I see this a a major safety issue considering a person(s) could be stranded in any weather conditions if the ignition did not allow them to start the vehicle. If in a remote area a person could easily freeze to death without being able to start the vehicle. I don't believe the part should have failed considering the minimal amount of mileage on the vehicle at the time. This is not a normal part that a person could have maintained to have in a working condition, it is subject to failure at any given time based on what I have been told. This is not your normal item subject to wear and tear, it needs to be investigated further. This issue happened on Mon., Jan. 2, 2012.

The vehicle is a 2004 Infiniti G35. Yesterday, July 9, 2012, hile driving under normal conditions on a main city street the engine on my 2004 Infiniti G35 just stopped running. Lost power steering and power brakes. Managed to manually steer the car off the road into a parking lot. The vdc off and slip lights and the check engine soon lights came on. I turned off the ignition and just sat there, stunned, for a few minutes. I decided to try to start it up again, and it did start and sounded ok, so I slowly drove it on home. After doing some research online for the next hour, I kind of figured it might be this defective cam position sensor, as the symptoms my car displayed sounded just like what so many others were describing, plus inifiniti and Nissan had a recall for this very problem issued on the 2003 G35. I completely agree with others that the 2004 G35 should be under this same recall. This is an extremely dangerous situation to be driving and suddenly, without warning, lose all engine power. I will add that later that evening I had to go somewhere, so I took a chance that it would make it. It quit on me twice in the area around my home within 10 blocks. So, obviously I cannot take this car very far from home without getting this repaired and replaced. I took it to autozone today to have them find out the code for the check engine soon light. It's what I suspected, 0340, which is the passenger side cam position sensor. The very thing on the 2003 inifiniti G35 model recall. The failure date was Jul. 9, 2012.

The car is a 2005 Jeep Wrangler. In trying to start my vehicle, a part inside of the ignition broke. I am told I cannot get the part that broke and I must purchase an entire steering column to replace this part in between the key and the electrical component that starts my vehicle. It is a small part, and I cannot see having the entire steering column to replace this small part. I am told by Chrysler that the cost to repair this is about $800. 00. I think this is entirely unreasonable and irresponsible on the part of the manufacturer. This part is used daily and should not fail after 60,000 miles of wear. My seven year / 70,000 mi warranty has just expired and I am appalled that such a large company cannot afford to fix or even stand behind their product. This is obviously a defective piece of equipment to have failed so prematurely. It is used every time you start this vehicle, and upon closer examination of this part, it seems that it is made of sub-standard material to be a part that must endure daily use. This issue happened on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012.

The vehicle was a 2008 Jeep Wrangler 2-dr 4x4. While driving on the freeway, the windshield fluid sprays and the wipers go on at slow speed. Can't turn wipers or mister off and have to pull over with zero viability. Second time this happened, I lost acceleration pedal and Jeep stalls and starts while all this is going on. Took keys out of ignition and disconnected negative batter but everything still on. Pulled fuses for wipers and fluid to stop that. Had to pop clutch to stall out the Jeep. Very dangerous to have happen while in the carpool lane. Also to find out that the airbags don't work due to a bad clock spring. This ignition problem happened on Sep. 4, 2012.

The VIN of this vehicle is SALNY22244_. In mid-October 2004, I bought a new Land Rover Freelander from the jim coleman of frederick, MD dealership. The vehicle has had massive electrical issues. Since November of '04, the "hill descent" light (the lr manual suggests this means a major problem), srs (airbag) and the check engine light come on several times. Car has left me stranded twice before 2 months old. When we went to get the car for pick up, the car was dead. Other recurring problems include:
not accelerating properly for highway entry/intersections/left turns. Sluggish, hesitant, lunging forward, very slow pick up. A nauseating burning smell continues to come through the vents into the car and surrounds the hood area when vehicle is running or shortly after turn off. Brakes are shuddering and brake pedal pushes back on my foot when stopping fast. I parked and turned off vehicle. Came back to vehicle an hour later with the ac fans blowing on high. Car was off. No key in ignition. Mechanic and I witnessed the rear gate window drop without the car being on and the key out of the ignition. This happens regularly. Air conditioner spits through vents. Water pouring out vents when going around curves. Significant amount of ac-related water on floor. A/c broke completely. No cold air, only fans. A/c light would not come on. Air would come out, only hot air. Fans stopped working. Front and rear windows completely fogged up on trip to mississippi. Had to use towels to wipe windows down. Drastically cut visibility as windows fogged up. Forced to leave windows down in thunder storms. Drivers side wind shield wiper is dragging at the bottom creating a smeared effect. This ignition issue occurred Mon., Nov. 15, 2004.

The car involved was a 2002 Land Rover Freelander. Heater doesn't provide powerful heat and right foot gets so hot and left foot freezes while driving. Car shakes and rumbles often, sounding like there is no oil. Had severe water leak from missing seals around rear cargo door. Seals, headliner and rug had to be replaced. Gas cap can only be removed with key in it. If key is removed while gas cap is off, makes for extremely difficult time to replace (about 5-10 minutes to work the key back in). Dashboard lights come on frequently to warn of a failure when there is no such failure. Engine doesn't start on first try a lot of times. Once driving for a while then parking for, car sometimes doesn't start on first try. Shifting is difficult, rpms rev pretty high. Car has lurched forward when speed decreases (I. E. Going down hill). This issue happened on May. 18, 2003.

The vehicle is a 2001 Mazda 626. Traveling in car on interstate in the right hand lane using cruise control set at 70mph. Was coming up on a car and tapped the brake to disengage cruise control and the car did not disengage. I tried to use the brake and it was not working and went to the floor. I could not shut the cruise control off at the controls on the steering wheel either. I quickly swerved onto the shoulder of the freeway to avoid hitting the car in front of me. My husband turned off the ignition and I eased up on the emergency brake and we came to a safe stop. After inspecting the car we turned the car back on and tested the brakes at slow speeds on the shoulder and the brakes engaged normally. My husband feels the cruise control stuck and that is why we could not stop the car with the cruise control buttons or with the brake pedal. This ignition problem happened on Wed., May. 23, 2012.

The car involved was a 2003 Mercury Sable. I went to leave from a local park on a Saturday evening, but my vehicle would not move out of park. I had to call a tow truck. The tow truck driver showed me a trick how to get the vehicle to start, by turning the ignition key ever so slightly and then trying to move the shifter to neutral. Once in neutral I started the vehicle and drove home. After driving the vehicle for almost a week by starting in neutral, I was stopped on the following Friday by police. I was informed that I didn't have any working brake lights. I drove home and looked on the internet if there were any recalls on this vehicle. Well, there was a recall done in 2004 (NHTSA action number: rq03008), but I was informed by Ford motor company that my vehicle based on its VIN was not apart of the recall. I requested to speak to a supervisor and was instructed that someone would contact me on that following Monday. I was indeed contacted by Ford motor company and informed again, that based on my VIN, that I did not qualify as a part of the recall. I was told if more complaints were made, then something could possibly be done. I told the Ford representative that I was not interested in having my vehicle repaired as I had the repair done based on the recall information for approximately $50. The issue was exactly as it was described on the NHTSA's website, motortrend and Ford motor company's. The repair took approximately 15 minutes and then I was able to start the vehicle in park and the brake lights were functioning. My concern is that for almost a week I drove with no brake lights in a vehicle where I drive around with my wife, a toddler, and an infant and at any point I could have been rear ended because of this defect in the vehicle. The vehicle is 10 years old, it will never have enough complaints. However, it does not diminish the potential for loss of life from this detect. This issue happened on Sat., Jul. 14, 2012.

The car was a 2008 Mercury Mountaineer. Crash was involved with the Mercury Mountaineer. While driving on a long trip, without warning, the memory seats change seat setting and went back fully as if I shut the vehicle off, this happened several times while I was driving without my assistance. I finally realized that when I touched the keys in the ignition, the seat went back to its original setting. When this occurred I was unable to reach brake and accelerator pedals which could have caused a fatal accident to occur. If this happened at a time that I needed to apply the brakes, I would not be able to and there would have been no way for me to stop. I took my vehicle to an authorized dealer who replaced the ignition. On 6/6/2012 the same thing happened again (mileage 60774), this time I struck the car in front of me, it was a good thing it happened while I was in traffic, and neither vehicle sustained damage. I brought my vehicle to the same authorized dealer who replaced the ignition again. Thank god all repairs were covered under my warranty. I have been lucky twice. My warranty runs out at 75000, what if it happens a third time, what will my cost then???? or what if it happens while traveling on the highway and I need to stop??. The car involved was a 2003 SAAB 9-5. My car was built in 2002 as well as others reported, I purchased it used 3 years ago with 64k miles. My direct ignition control in 2003 9-5 linear sedan 2. 3t ceased. Upon research, my dic is the original part 9197559 tk3. 6 2000-2002 are recalled and 'some' 2003 VIN's. With the over abundance of dic failures with the exact same part number, these need to be recalled as a whole. Upon removal of the dic, the engine is leaking at the seams of the head from where the bolts are located, inside the dic and engine section is perfectly clean. Bolts in the head of the engine loose, 1 was lifted out enough to just remove straight out. Car blows blueish smoke when it was starting, switches are defective (gm known issue), oil / engine / head known issues, suspension known issues (among other serious SAAB failures). I have spent thousands of dollars on this vehicle since purchase. The known recalls must be expanded to include the parts, not just 'year' or 'specific VIN'. This was supposed to be a safe, reliable car but instead is causing serious financial issues. Please help the owners all over the world, we should not have to pay for all of this. . We already paid for their 'bailout'!
sincerely~ can not take any more repairs!!!. This problem occurred on Wed., Oct. 26, 2011.

The vehicle having this issue was a 2007 Toyota Prius. In 2010 (approximately), the dashboard display of my Prius would intermittently not display when the car was first started. This condition makes it impossible to know how fast the car is going, how much fuel there is, etc. I visited dealers and independent mechanics and no one claimed to know anything about this problem. However, I have subsequently learned that Toyota issued a service bulletin on this very issue in 2009! (t-sb-0172-09). I've also since learned (due to my own research) that the most likely cause of this problem is a faulty combination meter (as per the Toyota sb). One independent garage in san francisco, CA has even started a blog about this because they are seeing so many repairs for this condition! it is absolutely a safety issue and the problem continues in my car today (I've just discovered the potential fix of replacing the combination meter). In addition to the dash display not working, often other issues, such as the engine not turning off, key not releasing from ignition, and rear hatch not releasing are also associated with this problem. Toyota admits in its sb this is due to a faulty computer design from one of its suppliers but refuses to issue a recall notice. Nhtsa should force Toyota to address this issue as the problem happens not only at start-up, but sometimes while driving. Losing speedometer visibility is a serious safety issue; as is not being able to disengage power in the normal fashion. This problem occurred on Sep. 1, 2011.

The car involved was a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta. Vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle is 3VWST71K26_. I was sitting in traffic in minneapolis mn. The light turned green, traffic moved and when I pressed on the accelerator, the engine sped up as if it was in neutral. The shift selector was in d for drive. The prndl indicator on the dash flashed red with all five letters illuminated. I tried turning off the ignition and turning it back on with the same results. No movement with engine accelerating. After being pushed into a parking lot by passersby, I tried again and the transmission worked as it was supposed to. After researching the problem on the internet, I find that it is a common vw problem and the NHTSA action number is pe09035 opened July 17, 2009 covering 2008 and 2009 models. The car involved is a 2004 Volvo V70. Vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle is YV1SW61T54_. Pulled into a parking spot on the street, put the car in park, but was unable to turn the key to turn the car off. It took me almost 20 minutes of jiggling the key around and spraying wd40 into the ignition cylinder before being able to very slowly get the key to turn enough to turn the car off. I am not a weak person and was honestly afraid that the amount of pressure I was applying was going to cause the key to break off in the ignition. I immediately took the car to the nearest Volvo dealer (cherry hill, NJ) and since this happened on a Sunday morning, I had to leave the keys with an explanation of the problem on a dropbox form. When I called the service dept today, they told me that they would have to custom order a replacement part from sweden and that it could be a week before my car is repaired. The service person said that this sometimes happens when people attach a large amount of keys to their car key and it causes stress on the ignition cylinder. I have never, ever done that. I always keep my car and house keys separate for safety purposes, so there is no reason this should have happened. After looking for more info on the internet, it appears as though this happens on a fairly regular basis with other owners. I am the original owner of this car and am religious about keeping it in good running order with routine, scheduled maintenance. Failure to be able to shut a car off without any prior warning should certainly be considered a safety issue. Thanks. The failure date was Sep. 23, 2012.

The vehicle having this issue was a 2007 Audi A4. After a stop light changed to green I started a left turn. Immediately the car started to "shake". It seemed like I was driving over some lane divider bumps. I noticed the engine light was on so I found a safe place to pull over. The car had to be towed. The dealership diagnosed a faulty ignition coil. ( all four ignition coils were already replaced in 2010 because of a recall). Again I had all 4 ignition coils replaced. I also had to have spark plugs replaced; (possibly because of the faulty ignition coils ruining some of the plugs. The spark plugs were replaced about 20,000 miles ago. ) I was told by the dealership that the original recall of the ignition coils did not cover this event. I feel there should be another recall for the ignition coils and include spark plug replacements. It was Tuesday, November 13, 2012 when this ignition issue occurred.

The car involved is a 2003 BMW 325i. The VIN of this vehicle is WBAAZ33403_. Xenon lights went out shortly after the 50,000 mark. Shortly after car kept going into fail safe mode, kept getting low voltage readings on diagnostics. One BMW dealers kept telling me I needed to rebuild transmission. All they would do is plug the car into the computer and see the tranny reading on the scanner. The reason there was a tranny reading was because the car was in fail safe mode. I eventually had the tranny rebuilt and I still had the same issue. I would cycle the ignition and restart the car and car would drive fine. It keeps going into fail safe mode everytime I start the car. Its harder to get it out of fail safe mode in the winter with colder starts. This issue happened on Wednesday, November 15, 2006.
