car   Dash Wiring problem of GMC Acadia

The vehicle identification number (VIN) is 1GKEV33768_. Bought our GMC Acadia Dec. 2011 had no issues till Jan 2012. Since then it has been back to the dealership repeatedly for seemingly linked problems. Started with just a dead battery upon further investigation found that the wiring harness was submerged in water, causing battery to short out, replaced the battery and fixed the apparent point of entry. Not two weeks later back in the shop, water pouring from the head liner (around the interior lights, sunroof moldings, and seat belt joints). Our Acadia remained at the dealership for three days with no luck of finding a leak (checked all drain lines and ran the vehicle through the water machine). Here we are again vehicle has been at the shop for a week with no luck of finding the point of intrusion; this time the water leak shorted out the entire fuse panel. After trying to find the leak for over a week, sending the vehicle to another shop to "get a fresh set of eyes on it", and contacting gm for advise (which was no help) the dealership still has been unsuccessful in locating the water leak. Not sure what to do next. All I know is we bought a $30,000. 00 car so we wouldn't have problems and here we are with problems, expensive problems. It was Jan. 19, 2012 when this dash wiring issue happened.

car   Dash Wiring problem of GMC Yukon

VIN of the vehicle was 1GKFK63887_. There is a problem with the steering wheel mounted radio controls on some 2007 GMC Yukon denali trucks with the six disc cd changer. One of these controls is suppose to allow you to change the disc that is playing to another one of the six that you have loaded into the changer. On some of these trucks the wrong wiring harness was installed when the truck was built along with the wrong software being loaded into the electronic module. This prevents this control from functioning correctly. Instead of changing the disc that is playing, it simple goes to the next song on that same cd. There is already a control on the steering column to do this. When I brought this to the attention of the service manager at the dealership he said at first that the steering wheel control module was bad and then that the radio was defective. Both items were replaced and the problem remains. He then checked some of the other Yukon denalis that he had in stock and told me that on some of these cars the controls worked properly and on some they did not. He then told me about the wiring harness and software problem. Gm's position is that these cars are built properly and they refuse to do anything about it. Page 336 of the owners manual clearly says that this button should change the disc that is playing. I consider this to be a safety problem because now when you want to change the disc you have to take your eyes off the road and look down to the middle of the dashboard and locate a small 1/4" by 1/2" button and push it. This can cause you to drift out of your lane of travel, especially at highway speeds. This, after all, is a primary purpose of steering wheel controls for radios-you can keep your eyes on the road. I hope you will look into this matter and force gm to correct this safety problem. This issue happened on March 10, 2007.

car   Dash Wiring problem of Jeep Wrangler

The car was a 2007 Jeep Wrangler 4-dr 4x4. When driving my 2007 Jeep, it has 2x, completely shut off while going about 70 mph in traffic. I took it to bondy's Jeep dothan, looked at by service depart. And given back - nothing wrong. The second time, returned to bondy's, some wiring harnesses were replaced. Then recall was issued, took it back-they fixed recall. Continued to have issues, been to bondy's eight times. It has not shut completely off again that was pretty scary - but the dashboard lights up with errors and I lose power everything (air conditioner, signals, radio, entire control panel, etc?). The same thing happened when it shut off completely, so my concern is that it will happen again. If I were to pull out onto a highway, that could be it. Please advise me on what action I need to take. Following is a timeline of what has been going on. I have not been able to get anyone from Jeep to call me to help me with this issue. I have only been working third party with my local Jeep dealer, who has been great, but has not yet solved any issues. 4/14/2007 Jeep cuts completely off while going 70 mph on hwy 431 all cluster lights lit up. 4/15/2007 Jeep cuts off completely again pulling out of the grocery store parking lot. 4/17/2007 took it to bondy's. Got it back on 4/19/2007. Service dept stated it was fixed. 4/26/2007 all clusters lit up like before but did not shut off. No air conditioner, radio, nothing electric worked. Took to bondy's. 7/11/2007 same thing 7/12/2007 recall received by mail, took to bondy's. 8/2/2007 it happened again. 8/3/2007 took to bondy's left it with the service dept. Do not have it back yet. car   Dash Wiring problem of Lincoln Town Car

The car was a 1999 Lincoln Town Car. The VIN of the car is 1LNHM82W6X_. 1. I entered the vehicle which had been parked for approximately 90 minutes. I turned the ignition key to start the vehicle and at the moment I turned the key the driver side, seat/window side air bag deployed. The vehicle was not in motion, not in drive gear and was not struck by another vehicle. Also, there had been no warning lights staying on indicating a possible problem with the air bag system. 2. The side air bag struck my left shoulder and upper back. It was painful, but did not injure me. After a few minutes, I started the vehicle and nothing else happened so I drove a short distance to my home without further incident. 3. I took the vehicle to a local Lincoln Mercury dealer and they determined that four wires in the main warning harness under the driver's seat were damaged, had shorted out and caused the air bag to deploy. The vehicle is a 1999 Lincoln Town Car with 74,000 miles on it. They said all warranties were expired and there were no extended warranties on the vehicle and it is my responsibility to pay for the repairs. Additionally, the warning harness( part # xw1z14a005aa) is no longer made and not in stock and may not be available. The estimate for repair is $3,500. 00 parts and labor. If they repaired the wiring harness, I would have to sign a release of liability stating if the repaired air bag system failed to deploy or deployed when it should not because the wiring harness was not replaced the dealer would not be responsible. I contacted the Ford customer relationships center and they said they had no history of this problem or recalls of this nature for this vehicle and that repair would by at my expense. This dash wiring issue occurred Friday, March 2, 2007.

car   Dash Wiring problem of Mazda Tribute

The vehicle was a 2002 Mazda Tribute. My son has driven this vehicle since 2008, when we purchased it for him to use while in college. He was driving onto campus and when approaching the parking lot, he noticed abs and airbag lights coming on and off on the dashboard. As he parked he realized there was smoke coming from under the hood. He opened the hood, saw a fire, and called 911 immediately. They arrived quickly and successfully put the fire out. Firemen told him it appeared to have been electrical and he was lucky they got there as quick as they did. Insurance claim adjuster took it to a Ford shop (closest) where they had it for a week and said they couldn't get parts, but were aware of a recall coming on the area the fire had occurred in (the wiring harness and abs module). It was then sent to a Mazda dealer, that had it for 10 days, and finally said the needed parts were obsolete and they could not repair the vehicle. Claims adjuster checked with another Ford and another Mazda dealer, getting the same answers from both. By the way, when they checked on the VIN, they said it was not on any Mazda recalls. This was at the end of January/beginning of February 2012. So after all this, they had to total a vehicle that only had about 77,000 miles on it and was in excellent condition otherwise. The day I get home from having documents notarized for the insurance company, in my mailbox is a recall from Mazda. . . . This very one 6712a, which I had already found online days prior to the Mazda dealers denying our VIN was included. The recall letter states the work from a prior recall in 2007 regarding this issue had been done. We are very grateful this fire did not cause an accident or more serious emergency situation. And we are grateful our insurance company isn't holding things up due to Mazda's lack of help. This dash wiring problem happened on 01/13/2012.

car   Dash Wiring problem of Volkswagen Touareg

The vehicle involved is a 2004 Volkswagen Touareg. To whom it may concern, I drive a 2004 vw Touareg. I want to report a technical problem regarding the multi function indicator (trip computer, or mfi) in the instrument cluster which vw doesn't acknowladge. My Touareg has a color mfi module (lcd based) which shows the clock, gear, cd info etc, between the speedometer and the tachometer (in the middle of the instrument cluster). The problem is that mfi constantly buzz as soon it is powered up (opening the door, don't need to insert the key into the ignition) and the sound goes away when the mfi shuts off. While the car is in motion mfi is always on, and the noise gets quiet annoying. I don't know what causes it or how to eliminate this sound. I try to dim the instrument cluster's lightning, however this has no effect. Also when the lights are on, the noise get louder. Overall, this issue creates a disturbance for the driver, and may cause an accident. Vw doesn't identify this problem, however I have heard and read from other websites about people complaning about this issue. Thanking you for your assistance and interest, and hope to hear from you soon. Warmest regards, barr karagozlu karagozlu_baris@yahoo. Com. The failure date was Saturday, March 27, 2004.

car   Dash Wiring problem of Volvo XC90

I own a Volvo Xc90 t6 awd. This car has had problems with the twin turbo-chargers, the warning lights, a tire blowout, vibrations in the steering wheel, alignment issues, short circuit in the driver's side control panel, poor fit and finish of the driver side door panel and a host of other fit and finish problems. The momentum Volvo dealership in houston, texas and Volvo north America service representative denied any problems being a serious or recurring problem. This all took place in a span of less than 10 months for a brand new vehicle. The car spent more time in the shop than in our possession initially. The dealership continued to fix the recurring problems and denied any chronic issues existed. I wish to alert NHTSA in the event any other owner of Volvo xc 1990 has similar complaints or a tragedy occurs as a result of the problems I have listed. This problem occurred on Monday, March 15, 2004.

car   Dash Wiring problem of Volvo V70

The car is a 2001 Volvo V70xc. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of this Volvo V70xc is YV1SZ58D21_. I was recently told my 2001 v79xc needed ball joints, then sway bars and someone else said struts! also: I have had the car diagnosed, the system reported throttle module errors and electircal or circuit problems; throttle module cleaned, then replaced; headlights replaced 3 times (wiring causes shorts); gas filter replaced two junes in a row gas propelled out of the tank back at me upon pumping (something about air intake line was clogged), the brackets underneath the car are totally rusted not stainless steel! I had the cooling fan replaced, car overheated into the red! I too have had little time to enjoy my car. The e brake sticks in the winter, because the coating on the lines/cables is cracked, broken/burned due to improper suspension. My sun roof, interior lights and rear hatch door works intermittently in cold weather. The glove compartment was rattling loudly and the dealer I bought it from tried to fix it and told me I had to live with it! of course another dealership fixed it outright. The seatbelt frequently sticks and doesnt take up the slack intermittently only to get shut in the drivers door frequently, when I just about think it has corrected itself. And, there is a strange draft on the front passenger side window that gets quite cold in the winter. The seal seems fine and its another problem no shop seems to know anything about. The vehicle involved is a 2002 BMW 325i. The VIN of the problem 325 is WBAET374X2_. The left blinker started malfunctioning and, as a result, rear tailight bulb outage appeared on dashboard all other lights were ok. BMW dealership mechanic diagnosed tail light ground wiring issue: inspection revealed that wires were melted inside rear tail light housing and could cause fire. Recommended replacing both tail light components by adding an additional ground, carrier replacements for bulbs. Replacement supplies on work order included sockets, insulation housing, connectors, shrinking hose. After research on consumer websites, I found out many complaints about the same issue. My BMW 325i is only 9 years old (2002) with only 30,250 miles on it. This kind of fundamental flaw should be correct at BMW's expense, not ours. car   Dash Wiring problem of Cadillac SRX

The vehicle involved was a 2005 Cadillac Srx. My wife was backing out of the drive way when she saw smoke coming off the cracks of the drivers side in the front of the vehicle. The hood was closed and had lots of black smoke gushing out of the cracks and it smelled like burning plastic. I tried starting the vehicle and to my surprise the vehicle started but most of the electronic controls were showing errors in the dash. I was able to drive it carefully to the nearest Cadillac dealer (lavery auto) in alliance, OH. When I stopped the car I was unable to take off the keys from the ignition because the security system also had an error. They diagnosed the problem and found that the electrical system in the ac compressor had caught fire and also melted the wiring. This had also destroyed the computer ecm of the vehicle. They repaired it and I brought the Srx back home in the evening of 10/14/11 and parked it in my drive way. The next morning I found the battery was dead and had to use my wife's car to jump start. The same thing happened the next day morning and had to call up a tow truck to jump start the Srx. I took it back to the same dealer (lavery automotive) and they found that another relay was bad due to the fire and they replaced this too. I spent over $1,500 to repair this vehicle. I have the receipts with full explanations. I would like for you to investigate the reason for this fire that had the potential to injure me and my family and also provide assistance if possible in having general motors reimburse me for these charges because of poor safety and quality in this vehicle. Thank you. This dash wiring problem happened on Sat., Oct. 8, 2011.

The vehicle having this issue was a 2004 Cadillac Srx. Recurring electrical problems. First problem I had, the motor in the window went out, then the next electrical problem I had was the wiring for the blinkers kept going out, the next and most major electrical problem I'm still having is that when the car is turned off and secured the dashboard lights and radio comes back on within ten seconds after I've turned off and secured the car. The middle armrest keeps detaching at the back where the cell phone plug is located. The door locks (indicating latch by window) doesn't lift up. These electrical problems have been corrected by the dealer (Cadillac) at least two times each. This dash wiring issue occurred 03/08/07.

car   Dash Wiring problem of Jaguar XJ8

The car is a 2000 Jaguar xjv8. Was driving my 2000 Jaguar xk8 on interstate 55 in illinois when there was a "pop" that sounded like a speaker going out. Smoke rushed out of the dashboard vents. A fire occurred within the dashboard. Flaming pieces of plastic and parts dropped to the floormat and set fire to the carpet. The vehicle cabin quickly filled with heavy smoke. It all happened so fast - I was able to pull the vehicle to the side of the interstate and barely cleared the car before the entire passenger cabin burst into flames. I called 911 - by the time firefighters arrived, the entire vehicle was engulfed in flames. It was a total loss. The police, firefighter and others surmised a problem with the wiring harness or one of the onboard computer/fuse/relay systems in the vehicle. This car has been well maintained - all the records exist to prove it. To be driving down the road and have your dashboard burst into flames should be of concern. I am not sure if there are other reports of incidents like this but one is too many. I nearly lost control of the vehicle at 65 mph and could have killed myself and others due to the build up of smoke in the cabin - I could barely see out of the windshield. A few concerns here - not the least of which is the cause of the fire. Beyond that, the fact that the mats and interior carpet caught fire so quickly is also an issue. Had I not been alert enough to recognize what was happening so quickly and able to take corrective action as soon as I did, the death box below might have been filled in by someone else. The failure date was Tuesday, September 9, 2008.
