O2 Sensor Problems in popular cars

O2 Sensor problem is a common vehicle problem that happens to most car brands and models. The following is a sample list of O2 Sensor problems reported in most popular vehicles.

car   O2 Sensor problem of Chevrolet Aveo

The car is a 2008 Chevrolet Aveo. I purchased a used 2008 chevy Aveo in June 2011. Nearly one year later I started having issues with it. June 2012 - valve cover gasket was cracked and caused smoking after an oil change. Repaired at dealership. Sept. 9, 2013 - sputtering and stalling. Was told it was due to a hold in the exhaust pipe. Replaced at dealership. Sept. 16, 2013 - still experiencing power issues. Was told I needed new spark plugs and wires. Replaced at dealership. Nov. 7, 2013 - engine light came on. Was told it was a faulty cam sensor. Replaced at dealership. Jan. 23, 2014 - engine light came on. Was told the oxygen sensor had failed. Replaced at dealership. April 20, 2014 - tpms light finally went off after being on for 3 months. Air conditioner stopped working the same day. Was told it was an electrical issue (ac clutch). During the same visit an inspection found the right front top bushing worn, left lower bushing worn, and rear cross member bushing broken. I sent a letter to Chevrolet, expressing my disappointment in the quality of the Aveo. My other chevy vehicles had been great, but this Aveo fell short. After speaking to someone in customer service, who—in response to my statement "individuals who purchase these kinds of economy cars are typically on a budget and can't afford the repairs the Aveo has needed due to its poor quality"—simply told me that it was not her fault that I couldn't afford a better car. I will never buy another chevy again. It was 06/11/12 when this o2 sensor issue happened.

car   O2 Sensor problem of Chevrolet Aveo

The car involved was a 2009 Chevrolet Aveo. Back in 2010, car shut off while accelerating onto freeway. Took into chevy, could not duplicate & didn't fix. Happened 3 more times over 2 years, finally took it in 2012. Dealership shop said it was a faulty oxygen sensor in fuel line. Happened on listed date of incident in rush hour traffic, driving less than 20mph. Vehicle completely shut off. Have not taken it back to be looked at. This o2 sensor problem happened on Apr. 15, 2014.

car   O2 Sensor problem of Chrysler Pt Cruiser

The vehicle having this issue was a 2005 Chrysler Pt Cruiser convertible. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of the car was 3C3AY75S35_. Engine lite came on. Replaced recommended parts. Lite came off and on over a year or so with same diagnostic. Replaced same part in late 2013 and lite still stays on. I am told now it is the computer itself. Have been told this is a common problem for Pt Cruiser owners and that many replace the same parts I did and it is to no avail. To my best of recall it is the upper/in lower/out oxygen 2 sensor. With the computer (engine lite) causing this problem Chrysler should have a recall on it. This problem occurred on April 20, 2012.

car   O2 Sensor problem of Dodge Grand Caravan

The vehicle having this issue was a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. The power door locks don't work. Tailgate is stuck in unlocked position. All other locks have to be operated manually, there is no way to lock the tailgate manually. Removing and reinserting the fuse fixed the problem for several weeks at a time. Eventually removing the fuse stopped working. I researched and found that there was a service bulletin on this that the repair was to flash the body controller. This issue also is causing a p0135 code which is for an O2 sensor heater. This code comes up even after replacing the O2 sensor. This issue is a safety concern with the tailgate not being able to lock which is an easy way for someone to get into the vehicle and either carjack it or steal it, or belongings. As for the p0135 code it has caused me to chase money after an emissions problem that really does not exist. The controller can only be flashed by a Dodge service center and they first want to charge to diagnose an issue that is commonly known about, and then pay for the fix. I need to get the p0135 code cleared in order to pass the emissions test and get the license sticker, otherwise I cannot drive this vehicle. This issue happened on Tuesday, June 1, 2010.

car   O2 Sensor problem of Dodge Durango

The car is a 2011 Dodge Durango. Tried to start vehicle and it would not start and the smell of burn wiring this happen several times. I seen the check engine appear and disappear I thought maybe oxygen sensor, or loose wire. So during the holidays November the vehicle cease to start and the vehicle radio and air bag light continue to operate off and on. I contacted a dealer who stated that they would work on the vehicle after the holiday January 9 2014 but change it to the 21 of January so I contacted Chrysler Dodge corp and they gave me a case number and I stated that others had the same problem and was there a recall. They sent me to the stealership to get it check out. They stated that it would take them a while to check it out one day and they said they fixed the problem (tip module) and that I should pay for it and if not they will charge me 45 dollars a day if I did not pick it up. I stated that I am waiting for the Dodge corp to help with the bill. They then stated they are not going to help and if I don't pay they will enforce their extra monies for having it there. I thought they wanted customers not chase them away. Go fiat. This problem occurred on Mon., Sep. 16, 2013.

car   O2 Sensor problem of Ford Windstar

The car was a 2002 Ford Windstar. Every since I purchased my '02 Windstar, I have had problems with the abs and brakes. I've had the brakes fixed numerous times and both lights still comes on while I'm driving. I had a brake fluid leak from the rear. My dvd and stereo both short- circuited on a month or two after they were installed. Sometimes if I come to a light to stop for a while, when the light turns green, I'll try to give it some gas but it becomes real hesitant and takes a while to pick up speed. The drivers behind me would start to get frustrated with me holding up traffic. Also, when I cut the ac on it takes power away from my vehicle and it threatens to cut off, so I don't turn it on. I also have to replace two oxygen sensors on it. I believe that my abs module is bad as well. I feel that I am putting more money into it than it's worth. Please help me. This issue happened on Mar. 12, 2012.

car   O2 Sensor problem of GMC Envoy

The vehicle is a 2003 GMC Envoy xl. It's seems crazy to me that this agency that was created to protect consumers from faulty vehicles can let so many complaints against this manufacturer that was bailed out by taxpayers money can be so blind to the gross negligence on GMC part. I have spent count less hours and way too much money on this vehicle, only to find out that many other consumers are reporting the same problems. I have literally sat down and cried vowing never to by another american made car because they are pieces of junk (and that is putting it nicely). I have paid to replace the oxygen sensor and all that goes with that; the catalyst converter twice; the electrical system throughout the vehicle and now my radio doesn't work because there is a short that is draining the battery when the car is turned off; the speed control (mph/rpm) doesn't work and I only pray that I'm not speeding while I'm driving; the rear wiper blade works when it feels like it; my car interior constantly smells like gasoline and when I'm filling up my tank it there is always spillage; my ses light constantly stays on and since my state practices emission control I hold my breath and pray that I pass the test so I can legally drive my car. These are just some of the problems that I face with this car and frankly this year I'm not working so coming up with the money to pay again to have a mechanic remove the ses light so I can go have the emission testing performed is ridiculous and draining a wallet that is very much empty. My car now has more mileage & I haven't heard my radio in over 2 years because they don't know what is wrong so they just disconnected it. Why haven't the NHTSA/dot required GMC to fix what they know is broken and a hazard on the roads? I would strongly recommend that the NHTSA take this seriously before someone loses control and people lives are lost. Don't let this become another Toyota issue. It was 03/15/2006 when this o2 sensor issue happened.

car   O2 Sensor problem of GMC Envoy

The car involved is a 2005 GMC Envoy. Vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle is 1GKDT13S65_. Repeat problems since car was purchased brand new at dealers. Air /O2 sensors defective/replaced. Defective fuel pump/fuel sensor/electronic gas gauge; flickering/dimming headlights; freezing/inability to control driver's side seat and controls. 1/4 of front instrument panel lights out; drivers side seat control lighting 1/4 out; check engine light and low fuel light on continuously since 1997. Tie rods both replaced as well as both front sway bars. Immediately following vehicle purchase, check engine light would continuously go off. I would call onstar at which point I was told to take car in for repair w/I 7-10 days (often told a problem w/powertrain or transmission) . At dealers service dept, told over and over again after tons of worry, concern and time spent, that electrical system on this car tends to trip/trigger check engine light and they would just reset it so after awhile, I began to disregard the light as I was in the dealership almost weekly. Approx 2 yrs after purchase, filled up gas tank and fuel light showed "low fuel". Went back up to full, dropped to 1/2 and back to empty. Went back to full after car was turned off and continued to do this. After about 2 weeks, constantly stays at empty. Called repair shop and was told approx $700-800 to drop tank and replace fuel sensor which I could not afford and began to track odometer and refill tank after 200 miles driven after fill up. Have been doing this for 5 years. Jan 29,2011, I go for emission test. Fail d/t low fuel and check engine light being on. Go to mechanic, approx $950 repair. Check engine light goes off. . . And back on next day. Read thousands of posts online and am finding many, many Envoy owners experiencing same problems as mine. These are safety issues and gm should issue a recall on entire fuel and electrical system. Please call for questions/clarification. This issue happened on 01/01/2007.

car   O2 Sensor problem of Acura CL

1997 Acura Cl 3. 0 has problems with the ignition switch. The consumer vehicle was stalled out as she was driving. The consumer was advised in July 2004 that there was a recall and to take the vehicle to the nearest dealership, however in Feb 2005, the vehicle began to stall again while traveling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was towed and upon examining the vehicle, the consumer was told the ignition switch was the source of the problem. The consumer stated that problem had already been taken care of, however the dealer stated the previous dealer did not use the correct part for the recall. The consumer took the vehicle back to the original dealer who then stated it was not the ignition switch, but the 02 sensor and egr valve which was eventually replaced, however 2 weeks later the vehicle stalled out again. The dealer finally determined that it was indeed the ignition switch after the consumer bought her personal mechanic with her to the dealer. The dealer stated the part was not covered under warranty and there would be a charge. The consumer eventually had her personal mechanic replace the ignition switch. This o2 sensor problem happened on Mar. 1, 2005.

car   O2 Sensor problem of Infiniti I30

The car involved was a 2000 Infiniti I30. Subject* ses cover-up by Infiniti? comments* cust states the service engine soon warning light is illuminated 1 the problem originated on June 27, 2002 16,068-odo-mileage actions taken work ordered warranty active p0140 rear O2 sensor has excessive high voltage after further research I gained knowledge of an Infiniti September 6, 2001 service bulletin classification ec01 024 reference itb01 052 2000 01 130 mil onã‚?? with dtc p1320 and or spark knock detonation due to ignition coil s substitution of the computer would be a good diagnostic tool unfortunately because the programming is specific to each engine transmission combination and because it a pricey electrical part this is just not done. So they will check on a dvm or scope at the leads of both sensors mentioned to see if everything is on the up and up from the computer. If so, replacing the sensors would be the likely next step. I was not properly informed of the pre existing condition with the 2000-01 I30s I was not allowed to have any input in this recall and or subsequent slow deterioration within these vital controlling electrical parts. Perception of a cover up is being fought by me I am requesting a retroactive review back to June 27, 2002 of this matter under my new research material I am furious that I was noã‚??t granted the common courteous in 2002 of being informed are there more undisclosed situations that I am not aware of? had I known in 2002 what I know today I would have filed a complaint and or an inquiry. That way I would not have lost my expiration date of filing and would be on record instead of filing in 2005 06 I am perceiving this in that manner holding such crucial information from a consumer is not fair nor justice for consumers under what lawful writings forbid consumers of such crucial information only a home is above this expenditure ggkilbuck@bellsouth. car   O2 Sensor problem of Jeep Grand Cherokee

The vehicle involved is a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. As with many other posts, the vehicle just shut down while driving on the parkway. Pulled off the road put the car in park restarted , waited a minute drove another 20 miles home , no problem. This has happened before in the driveway, or just leaving the house but never on the road. Have replaced ignition switch, both O2 sensors distributor cap, rotor and wires. Fuel pressure is good . Don't expect a fix from Chrysler , there are many posts here and online with no fixes. Just thought I'd add my experience to the mix. Time for a new car!. It was Thursday, May 22, 2014 when this o2 sensor issue happened.

car   O2 Sensor problem of Jeep Commander

I purchased my 2006 Jeep Commander from city auto in memphis, TN on 9/14/11 and was told it was a one-owner vehicle originating from the state of pennsylvania. I noticed hesitatation in the transmission and variances (rough - up and down) in the idling shortly after my purchase. I then started to get the "transmission/engine" light coming on. But it would go away almost as quick as it would come on. I then had my engine stall while driving full speed on the interstate. I lost all power! fortunately, I was able to get over to the shoulder safely! we immediately started doing some research on various forums, including Jeep forum, on the "stalling issue" and "lights coming on intermittently". My husband took it to our local autozone and they hooked it up to their coding scanner machine. It gave us the code to change the map sensor needed to be changed. My husband changed this out last summer (2013). It helped for a litle bit. :( then began having the same issues, stalling out while driving, check engine light coming on/off and rough idling. Husband went back and had them hook up to coding machine and this time was given the code for O2 sensor, which he purchased and changed out. Now it's worse than ever! it won't even stay idled. It stalls almost immediately! I have to keep my foot on the gas (and brake when needed) all the time! if I let it go below 1000rpms it dies! we took it to a mechanic & was told the pcm was bad. But he told us that there were recalls that may fix the issue. So we took it to a dealership who performed the recall but unfortunately it did not fix the problems. This is a very expensive "fix" to a problem that appears to have never have been resolved properly by the manufacturer!! this needs to be addressed by the manufacturer as it is a major driving & safety hazard!. This problem occurred on Monday, Apr. 15, 2013.

car   O2 Sensor problem of Kia Motor Sorento

The car is a 2011 Kia Motor Sorento. Car wouldn't start when I pushed it to start, the next day it started. On 1/4/2012 driving the car at approximately 30 mph and the car shut off. The car did restart but shut off again while driving. Restarted and had it towed to kia. They had the car until 1/9/12. I was told there was a problem with the fuse block. They replaced ems block control harness. On January 30,2012, the car wouldn't start again. Had it towed to kia. They kept the car and on 2/1/12 and 2/2/12 the car didn't start for them. I was told they moved around the computer and then the car started. I was also told that there was no fuel pressure that time. They replaced pcm. I took it to the kia garage on 4/26/13 for a routine oil change. That day got the car back and had oil leaking all over my driveway. I have had problems ever since. Took the car back 2 times for oil leak. During the time it was in the garage I was told the oxygen sensor needed replaced, after being replaced I was told there was to much voltage going to the sensor and they didn't know why. Currently I am told the cars computer needs to be replaced. We still haven't gotten the car back. It was Sat., Dec. 18, 2010 when this o2 sensor issue occurred.

car   O2 Sensor problem of Lexus RX300

I purchased used 1999 Lexus Rx300 in 2008 and so far I've had to replace the transmission due to unexpected catastrophic failure, both air ratio sensors, both knock sensors, oxygen sensor, front strut mounts, and now possibly have to change the transmission again (not shifting correctly). I was not aware that the 1999 to 2001 Rx300s were so problematic. Since this is my only vehicle and I am still making payments on it, I am stuck footing the bill for all these repairs. Which from what I have researched are attributed to bad engineering. I am constantly having to repair a vehicle which is supposedly known for quality. The problems that I've mentioned are just the major repairs. I have other minor issues such as rear power window must remain locked or it opens on it's own, dashboard lights do not illuminate, and power roof gets stuck open intermittently. This o2 sensor issue occurred Sunday, June 1, 2008.

car   O2 Sensor problem of Lexus GX470

The car is a 2005 Lexus Gx470. My 2005 Gx470 has had 69,000 trouble free miles until yesterday. My wife was driving and called me with the report of the vsc and check engine light being on. The vehicle acts fine and the gauges are reading normal. I checked the fuel cap as the owners manual suggested for the engine light but no results. I take it in to the Lexus dealership for service and they cannot find the problem. They reset the warning and then in two to three days it is back on again. I have read blogs that it states it may be the O2 sensors. This occurs a lot in Lexus vehicles. This problem occurred on Sep. 17, 2009.

car   O2 Sensor problem of Mazda RX8

The car was a 2004 Mazda Rx8. The VIN of this Rx8 is JM1FE17NX4_. 2004 Mazda RX 8 has many design defects, battery was replaced, spark plugs and oil filter was replaced 3 months after purchase. The started was replaced. The vehicle was stalling in traffic and was taking multiple times to try to restart the vehicle. After numerous times of the vehicle being towed, the dealership decided to replace the entire engine. After the replacement of the engine, the engine light illuminated and the vehicle was still not starting smoothly. The dash lights were blinking on and off and the heat was not working. The catalytic converter, 02 sensor, and a/c amplifier. The heater control switch was replaced. The sun visor was replaced. This o2 sensor problem happened on Friday, January 23, 2004.

car   O2 Sensor problem of Mazda MPV

The car involved is a 2002 Mazda Mpv. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) was JM3LW28J82_. My 2002 Mpv suffered a complete transmission failure at about 75k miles, stalling out in morning traffic and needing to be pushed from the road. The transmission occasionally kicked when shifting since the car was new. I called Mazda, which refused to pay anything toward the repair, saying it had relinquished liability for a vehicle several years past warranty. Despite what I see in NHTSA's complaint log and elsewhere on the net, Mazda told me that it does not agree that the transmission on the 2002 Mpv is unusually prone to failure. In the past seven months, this Mpv has needed several other expensive engine repairs, some of which also repeatedly show up on the NHTSA complaint log: 3 ignition coils, a pcv hose, an idle control valve, and an oxygen sensor. This is quite a string of expensive failures for a car less than 7 years old. The dealer offered to do the transmission work for $3600, although it looks like I will have it done elsewhere for somewhat less. I strongly urge NHTSA to reevaluate whether a recall is merited for the 2002 Mpv's defective transmission. The consumer stated he had to have 3 ignition coils, a pcv hose, and idle control valve nas a right upper oxygen sensor. Updated 02/12/09. This problem occurred on Friday, January 16, 2009.

car   O2 Sensor problem of Mercedes Benz C230

The vehicle is a 2004 Mercedes Benz C230. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) is WDBRF40J04_. Numerous things have happened. The car has 124,000 right now. This is the biggest lemon ever!! -car caught fire at mercedes - a/c blower shorted out, causing fuse box to catch fire and burnt underneath dash. They informed me the technician received minor burns when trying to put out the fire. -new alarm siren (it would go off randomly) -2 alternators (voltage regulator goes bad) -new door lock on driver and passenger side doors -new rf sensor on driver door for the key-less remote -2 new thermostats -1 driver side door handle -2 passenger side door handles and now broke for 3rd time -rear glass was replaced because when rear defroster was turned on it would make fm radio static. It does it again now. -front fog light glass cracked in half - bought new one and did it again -check engine light on now and O2 sensor bad. -rear screen shade it stuck up. Wont go down. -key-less remote antenna is broke -3 brake systems in front -1 brake in rear -sunroof works but the arm that pops up broke -middle console buttons get stuck sometimes. The vehicle involved was a 2002 Mercedes Benz s-600. While driving vehicle suddenly car began to lose all power, check engine light came on, car began running rough. Took to dealership and they reported that the oxygen sensor was faulty and both right and left coil packs and that they need to replace the spark plugs again, at a total cost of $3875. 00 this seems very disturbing considering they already replaced the spark plugs and wires because they were defective parts from the factory under warranty but now refuse to take resposibility for the coil packs even though they admit there is an issue with these high ignition systems. Only 14275 miles on vehicle. It was 03/15/07 when this o2 sensor issue occurred.

car   O2 Sensor problem of Nissan Versa

The car is a 2009 Nissan Versa. July 2, 2013 - while driving the service engine soon (ses) light comes on. The rate of speed does not seem to have an impact on this problem. I have taken my car to the Nissan dealership on 7 different occasions for this problem. Each time the computer reveals the following code: p2a00 a/f sensor failed. So far the following repairs have been done: replaced front air/fuel sensor (Nov 2011), replaced O2 sensor and reprogrammed the engine control module (ecm) (Mar 2012), replaced the a/f sensor for the 2nd time, and reprogrammed the ecm for the 2nd time (April 2013), replaced the fuel pump (may 2013), replaced the a/f sensor for the 3rd time (June 5, 2013), reprogrammed the ecm (June 18, 2013),and finally replaced the O2 sensor for the 2nd time (June 27, 2013). These repairs have not fixed the problem. The ses light has come back on after my latest service in June 2013. I am frustrated and feel that something else must be going on. Nissan is of no help and is not offering any further assistance other than to replace the same parts over and over and reprogram the ecm. Very frustrating!. The failure date was Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011.

The vehicle having this issue was a 2005 Saturn Ion. We bought this used Saturn on 12/ 28/13 after driving about 10 days, the engine light came out. The warranty auto mechanic said the electrical issue. The auto sale dealer checked it was oxygen sensor issue. Referred us to get free fix at the el monte smog auto mechanic but failed to fix it despite many times. We went to the mechanic near our house. We paid several hundreds to fix the problem. Few weeks later, another problem that the key could not take out from the switch and it always stuck inside the switch soon after we turned off the key. We need to wait a long time to pull the key from the switch. We ignored the issue but went to make a copy from a locksmith in alhambra. We used the duplicated key to drive it but it was stuck and couldn't take out. We went back the locksmith who helped us to remove the key from the switch. Since then, the issue was solved . On 4/5/2014 we got oil change and was told there're many issues that need to be fixed. It costed us about $1200- . Few days later, the engine light came out again, we scared that it was unsafe as everyday we need to drive carpool from home (chino hills) to our workplace . We were told it was oxygen sensor again. On 4/14/14, the window screen wiper suddenly moved while we were driving. It could not stop at all even after we turned off and turned out the key. The next day, it had run out the battery and triple a said it was the electrical issue. car   O2 Sensor problem of Subaru Forester

The car is a 2007 Subaru Forester. The check engine light illuminated and the cruise control light was flashing upon starting the engine. No other engine symptoms presented themselves. Took vehicle to independent repair shop and was informed the front converter is damaged in addition to the front sensor being bad. Ended up having them all replaced at substantial cost of approx. $2,000. 00. Additional research done in a Subaru Foresters owners forum shows that many owners are experiencing costly and unnecessary repairs due to faulty O2 sensors, not bad catalytic converters. Any expenses current owners have had to incur should be reimbursed by Subaru to those owners, and a recall should be issued to other owners to prevent unnecessary and costly repairs. It was Feb. 25, 2012 when this o2 sensor issue occurred.

car   O2 Sensor problem of Suzuki SX4

2008 Suzuki Sx4- took into dealership for complaint of ticking noise under the hood. After a $98 diagnostic fee they determined it needed a new engine because of bad rods due to oil starvation. After talking with service manager and dealership general manager both decided that repairs were not covered under 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. Also the air bag warning light stays on and it was also determined that the entire seat would have to be replaced in addition to the catalytic convertor being replaced due to bad oxygen sensor. I have proof of all maintance and service repairs to include oil changes etc. I requested a meeting with general manager and was assured that he would investigate situation and get back with me in a couple of days. It has been a week and only communication I have received is a text message on my cell phone stating that no part of the powertrain warranty would apply even though the powertrain warranty includes all things listed in diagnostic review of the car this is extremely unprofessional and shows that Suzuki does not stand by their products. car   O2 Sensor problem of Toyota Matrix

The car involved was a 2005 Toyota corolla Matrix. Had just picked up car from lynch Toyota and $1,000 worth of repairs including 02 sensor b/c check engine & tpms lights were on. While driving 65 m. P. H. On highway vehicle began accelerating on its' own up to 80 m. P. H. I depressed brake and slowed speed but upon removing foot from brake car began accelerating to 80 m. P. H. A second time, so I made sure my foot was not on gas pedal and depressed brake again which slowed speed but car accelerated a third time to 80 m. P. H. And my foot was not on gas pedal but when I tried to depress brake it resisted and would not engage no matter how hard I pressed, so I jammed down on gas pedal a few times and it "revved" as if in park- doing this seemed to kick the car out of phantom driving mode and allowed me to depress the brake and drive straight back to lynch Toyota. Toyota had my car for over a day and said they sent the test results to CA but "could not confirm condition" and it was "operating according to design"- that possible cause was aftermarket floor mat or "pedal mis-application" but the floor mat doesn't reach the brake pedal and this occurred three (3) times over a short time span and I deliberately lifted my foot off the gas pedal so it couldn't be mis-application. There are many reported issues with the 2005 Matrix and other years, too as well as other Toyota models but each incident ends with Toyota failing to confirm any issues but clearly, there are acceleration, pedal or electronic problems. This issue happened on Mar. 22, 2014.

The vehicle had been serviced repeatedly by father's & sons, but they had not completed the repair. All of the oxygen sensors and the catalytic converter had been replaced.
