Trunk Wiring Problems in popular cars

Trunk Wiring problem is a common vehicle problem that happens to most car brands and models. The following is a sample list of Trunk Wiring problems reported in most popular vehicles.

car   Trunk Wiring problem of Chevrolet Aveo

The car was a 2006 Chevrolet Aveo. Have taken the car to Chevrolet dealership multiple times and everytime the problem is "fixed" it happens again a few days or sometimes weeks later. First, the instrument panel cluster fuse kept blowing. Seemed to happen when fuel gauge read 1/2 full. Eventually, after many trips to dealership to fix it, it worked for three weeks and the fuse started blowing again. Then, rpm gauge started moving erratically for about a week and then stopped working altogether. Fortunately, this fixed the problem with the fuse blowing, but overtime, my temperature gauge did the same thing, and now my fuel gauge is starting to go. If I drive over 55 mph, sometimes the rpm and fuel gauge will move, but not accurately. When I did think that the problem was fixed for those three weeks, I had taken the car in for another problem. Speedometer/instrument panel lights not working interior lights not working tail lights or brake lights not working all of this happened suddenly when I was driving at night. I checked online and found that the wiring design inside the splicer in the hood compartment fuse box was prone to failure (a lot of people have had this problem). I mentioned this at the dealership and sure enough that is where the problem was. They also said that my other electrical problems had to do with this as well. They fixed the problem, but then three weeks later, the initial problem with the instrument panel cluster fuse was back. I cannot afford to keep taking the car in for the same repair. I have researched online and found that many people have this problem with this car. It is incredibly dangerous to have a car that isn't electrically reliable. This issue happened on April 1, 2013.

car   Trunk Wiring problem of Chevrolet Silverado 1500

The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) was 3GCRKSE35A_. On March 30, 2014, I noticed the right front parking light of my 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 was illuminated and all the other lights were off. I tried several different things to get the light to turn off and was unsuccessful, so I disconnected the battery until I could have the issue diagnosed. The mechanic identified the problem as a portion of the terminals in the electrical junction block (fuse/relay panel), located in the engine compartment had significant corrosion which caused a short circuit situation. He also noted that there was no corrosion under the junction block where all the wiring harness plug into. He was perplexed because there was no signs of water or chemical damage to the junction block and also the age of the truck and low mileage. He further stated even with the ignition switch turned off, the panel was very hot due of the electrical resistance caused by the corrosion which caused a situation for a fire. He added that a local Chevrolet dealership had a report of a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 that had a engine compartment fire due to a faulty electrical junction block. After conducting search of the internet, this seems to be a problem in 2009-2012 Chevrolet silverado's. I am concerned that someone is going to park there truck in there garage and a fire will ensue that will cause injury of death. This trunk wiring issue occurred Mar. 30, 2014.

car   Trunk Wiring problem of Chrysler Town & Country

The vehicle involved was a 2007 Chrysler town and country. During a low-speed local trip (less than 2 miles, 45 mph max) acrid smoke starts coming out front a/c vents. Stop, turn off ignition. After merely describing the problem to an experienced mechanic, he says he knows what the cause is and proves it by removing the glove compartment to reveal a fried wire and nearby heat-damaged parts. He adds that many Chrysler-built (also gm-built) vehicles had caught fire because of this very reason. The a/c blower motor had started drawing too much electrical current (reason unknown*) which caused its wire to get hot enough to burn its own insulation plus melt nearby plastic parts. The wire is, obviously, undersized for a nominal overload. ( blower was still blowing as it always had, and had never blown its fuse. ) as an electronics technician with 39 years' experince in engineering, I find the use of wiring too small in gage to safely handle the full load rating of its branch circut (as determined, in this case, by the blower fuse amperage) to be appalling. The national electrical code protects us in our homes from such dangerous electrical design, why isn't there a code to protect us in our highway vehicles as well? what other undersized wires in my car are waiting to set it on fire? what such wiring in other makes and/or models? youtube provides graphic evidence of what can happen when a car burns, even when no crash has occurred. This trunk wiring problem happened on October 16, 2011.

car   Trunk Wiring problem of Chrysler 300

The vehicle involved is a 2006 Chrysler 300. The contact stated that while driving, smoke was emitted into the vehicle through the vents. The contact mentioned that after pulling over, she was unable to remove the vehicle from park and both the tail and brake lights were malfunctioning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that there was a pinched wire in the trunk which caused the shortage. As a result, the wiring harness would need replacing. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 65,000. This issue happened on Thursday, Jul. 7, 2011.

car   Trunk Wiring problem of Dodge Challenger

The car is a 2013 Dodge Challenger. My son was driving this car going back to college on the I 49. He noticed smoke coming out of the trunk. He stopped, opened the trunk and it was on fire. Luckily he had a bottle of water and put the fire out. In the process he burnt his hand (minor burn). He called the fire department who showed up and told him that the battery or wiring had shorted out and caused a battery meltdown and a fire in the trunk. His clothes and speakers were burnt. The car is now sitting at the Dodge dealership in alexandria la. Dodge was contacted and so far has denied any manufacturing defect. This car is one year old. I know that there was a recall on this type vehicle last year. This may be related. I am afraid that even when repaired this may happen again. This is very unsafe and Dodge should take responsibility for their vehicles. This trunk wiring issue occurred Sunday, January 12, 2014.

car   Trunk Wiring problem of Ford Focus

The vehicle is a 2001 Ford Focus. The VIN of this vehicle was 1FAFP34P71_. Bought vehicle 2nd hand, cash, everything worked fine. Now, I have no brake lights, & my door locks no longer work on the remote, or the "all lock/unlock" button, & now my trunk latch is not working correctly. The door locks are self locking (meaning that they lock at any given time whenever they please. ) the brake switch has been replaced, all bulbs have been checked & replaced, fuses keep getting blown. Cannot locate fuse for the door locks. Ford has a campaign for the year 2000 for a door latch issue, campaign #05s27 NHTSA id# 05v-030. Also, campaign #05s50 NHTSA id #00v-411 for a tail lamp issue. There are no recalls on this yet after doing weeks of research I am finding that it is an issue with the Ford Focus from 2000 to current. After calling several dealers, none of them would tell me anything, & that "they didn't recall any problems before from anyone else". How is it that I can find this issue on the internet but the dealers "never heard of it"? why is there no change in the indicated issue of the wiring harness to the rear tail light assembly? wouldn't this be a hazard? I didn't know they weren't working until I got pulled over by law enforcement. So, this issue happens while the vehicle is being driven!!! therefore, a diligent owner who checks their lights regularly will not know it happens until (a) said person gets hit from behind, or (b) gets pulled over by law enforcement. It was March 26, 2014 when this trunk wiring issue happened.. Read more...

car   Trunk Wiring problem of Ford Escape

The car involved was a 2001 Ford Escape. On October 10th, 2013, my wife and I had met for her birthday dinner at a restaurant in our town. My wife drove the 2001 Ford Escape to the restaurant, about 5 miles, from our home and parked the car. We had been at dinner for approximately 25 minutes when the waitress asked us if we drove a red SUV. We were led to the vehicle that was on fire and in the process of being extinguished by the fire department. The fire investigator said that it looked as if the fire had started on the driver's side of the engine compartment and that nothing else looked suspicious. He pointed out that the wire insulation on that side of the engine compartment was all melted away to bare copper and that the passenger side wiring was still more intact. The fire destroyed the entire front end of the car, the engine compartment, the driver's side fender, the driver's side tire and rim and melted the driver's side dashboard. The entire inside of the vehicle is smoke damaged since the car was locked up. The vehicle is a total loss. Just grateful that my daughter or wife weren't driving it at the time of the fire. It was 10/11/2013 when this trunk wiring issue happened.

car   Trunk Wiring problem of GMC Suburban

The vehicle involved is a 1997 GMC Suburban. The shaft in the power steering pump busted in two as my husband was driving into a curve @ 60 mph. He was able to keep from crashing. But if I would have been driving it I wouldn't of been able to steer it. My husband walked in the house white as a ghost. The dealer wanted me to drive it in 10 miles on a curving road with no power steering. I tried to drive it impossible for me to do. The brakes wore out and were replaced a second time (front) @ 36000 miles. The rotors were replaced, had been 10,000 miles since last brake job. The rear brakes needed readjustment again at 43200 miles the pedal kept going to the floor and was soft. 11/98 began having more electrical problems with the rear fan blower would not turn off and will run the battery dead constantly. 1/99 both front and rear u-joints were bad, had replaced the car was wandering even worse than it used to they could not find cause. The front differential was leaking and front brakes need replacing again. 2/16/99 the transmission went out in the vechile at 53174 miles. I drove the car 3 miles into town the rpms started going up to 4000rpms wasn't shifting I stopped and parked I tried to back up it started whinning and clunking and wouldn't move. Three miles earlier I backed out of my garage with no hint of trouble 3 miles later I am stranded with two babys. My husband contacted gm they refused any assistance. I continued contacting gm through other avenues I called roy roberts one of the vp explained I had some safety concerns with the Suburban. I was told he would return my phone call, no return call ever received. I finally found a factory rep. That is looking into the problem but I don't hold out much hope that gm will respond to our concerns. Every time I have talked to a gm rep. They tell me no one else has these problems, but according to your records lots of people have had similiar problems. I have all records and receipts and would love to go into more detail with you. This trunk wiring issue occurred Tuesday, May. 12, 1998.

car   Trunk Wiring problem of Acura TL

The vehicle involved is a 2003 Acura 3. 2tl. "yaw rate sensor" for the vehicle stability assist (vds) system may be improperly mounted. This can cause either of the front wheel brakes to be suddenly and firmly applied without warning for up to one second. A possible result is lost of control or rear end collision (brake lights are not activated). Improperly mounted sensor will also cause the vds to deactivate until engine restart, activate vsa system indicator warning light on the tachometer face, and set a yaw rate sensor diagnostic trouble code. Honda has started supplying yaw rate sensors with a locating pin which prevents improper mounting. But there is no indication that Honda has recalled to check those vehicles built or repaired with units lacking the locating pins. The unit is easily accessible to check for proper mounting. This problem pertains to 2003 & 2002 type-s versions of both the 3. 2tl and 3. 2cl models. It was Monday, September 1, 2003 when this trunk wiring issue occurred.

car   Trunk Wiring problem of Jeep Wrangler

The VIN of this vehicle was 1J4BZ3H1XB_. Using my 2011 Jeep Wrangler (right hand drive), I deliver mail for the u. S. Postal service. Was delivering mail on my rural route. Date was 4th of Feb. 2014. The problem was a fire in the engine compartment. Causing damage to the wiring harness , many other wires, compartment plastics ,and gas line. The cause appears to be hot oil from the transmission dipping onto the engine and transmission . I only see that the fill tube on the transmission was the leak. I heard a fire ignite , open the car hood and seen the black smoke I then put out the fire. It is now the date-March 18 ,2014. I have no support from Chrysler corporation for repair of my problem. Their investigation stated an investigation into the incident found no manufacturing defect that caused the incident on 2-3-2014. I have now turned this over to my car insurance company . They say I should use the lemon law. This vehicle was repaired for a bad transmission in Nov. Of 2013. I do not see why I should of had more problems. The insurance company cost to repair is $5000. If the transmission is bad I was told by the dealer for the Jeep ,a new transmission would cost me personally $5000. Thank you. This issue happened on 02/03/14.

car   Trunk Wiring problem of Lexus ES

The vehicle having this issue was a 2012 Lexus Es. On the passenger side dashboard next to temperature control switch, dashboard vinyl is melting, it has bubble and one bubble was broken to make a hole. I noticed it on April 1, 2014. When I changed the cabin air filter on March,31 in glove compartment, I didn't see it. I brought my car to new country Lexus and described the issue hoping that their technician may see issue with temperature control resistance may causing wiring to heat that is causing vinyl to melt. But they didn't see it that way, instead they are saying that I might have dropped a chemical on it, I swore to them I didn't use any chemical and I don't have any passenger except my wife. I don't want to fix the vinyl until I fix what caused it. But, unfortunately Lexus dealerships trained technician didn't see anything causing it from the inside the dashboard. By taking second opinion from outside repair shop, he mentioned the temperature control resistance may be heating up the wire that might have caused the vinyl to melt. I feel that this is a real issue and it may cause a fire. I have opened a case with Lexus corporate and a case manage promised to call me by April 4, 2014. Updated 04/17/14. This issue happened on Apr. 1, 2014.

car   Trunk Wiring problem of Mercedes Benz C300

The vehicle having this issue was a 2008 Mercedes Benz C300. Randomly I started receiving check bulb messages for the rear lights on both sides of my car. I didnt think much of it as I dont think they had ever been changed so I changed them and all was fine and then a few weeks later the messages started to pop up again. I rechecked the bulbs to make sure they were securely in place and they were so I started doing a little research and discovered that this was a known issue. Presently the entire left rear side is out and it looks like the wiring has overheated and been singed (looks like it had burned). When calling all the local southern cali dealerships (orange county/long beach) none of them will admit to it being a widespread problem and fixing it for free because the parent company, Mercedes Benz, hasnt yet. I have no desire to pay for a problem that should have never occurred in the first place. My major concern is about potential fires in the trunk due to this. All it will take is one spark to catch on something in the trunk and then well car is on fire. As much a Mercedes Benz claims to be about safety, I'm shocked, one at the design flaw and two that they are going through the motions of pretending like the thousands of owners who have reported this are making it up. They need to get on this ASAP. This issue happened on 05/01/13.

car   Trunk Wiring problem of Mercury Sable

The VIN of this Sable is 1MEHM42W78_. On Thursday around 11:30 pm, on sept. 12, 2013, while my 77 year old mother slept her 2008, Mercury Sable premier mysteriously caught fire and burned while parked under her car porch attached to her home. The vehicle was totaled and damage occurred to her home. Were it not for her little dog barking and running back and forth from her bedroom to the car porch door, she likely would not have awaken. She looked out the peep hole of her door to the car porch and say smoke and fire emitting it is very likely her home and she could have been lost in the fire. Although shook up emotionally, we are thankful only her car was lost. Fortunately, my mother remained calm enough to call emergency services (police and fire department) that arrived in very short time to put the fire engulfed vehicle out. According to feedback from the local law enforcement arson investigator and investigators representing our auto and home insurance companies, it appears the fire likely started in the trunk of the Sable in the electrical wiring system or reverse sensing module as I believe it might be referred to for my mother¿s vehicle. The incident had a considerable degree of emotional and psychological impact on my mother given as a senior citizen this vehicle represented a last vestige of freedom and independence. . This problem occurred on September 12, 2013.

car   Trunk Wiring problem of Mercury Grand Marquis

The vehicle was a 2009 Mercury Grand Marquis. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of the car was 2MEHM75V59_. I had checked the tire pressures prior to a road trip and found them at 38 psi. I reset the pressures to the spec of 33 psi. Shortly the tire monitor came on and signaled a low tire pressure. I rechecked and they were ok. During my trip the light would keep coming on and I tried to reset the system to no avail. On my return, the power door locks kept malfunctioning. The door key pad would work sometime for both the doors and trunk. The next time they might not. The door switches on both passengers and drivers side would work sometimes. With both the tire pressure system and the door locks acting up and creating a nuisance, I took the car to the Ford dealership, two river Ford in mount juliet, TN. . The found a shorted wire in the harness going to the drivers side module that coordinates most of the safety systems on the car. There was no fire in my case, however, there could have been. I did receive a bill for $272. 30. My concern is that Ford apparently does not accept any responsibility for what I consider a safety issue whether it was caused by poor system design on the harness layout or electrical current exceeding the wiring capabilities. Was it caused by excessive movement in the harness or was it current going through the wires as I tried to reset the pressure monitoring system 20-30 times. I am more then interested in knowing how many similar failures Ford has had in the Grand Marquis and the Ford crown vic. This trunk wiring issue occurred 06/14/13.

car   Trunk Wiring problem of Mitsubishi Outlander

Consumer owns a 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander. While driving approximately 30 mph on normal road conditions, the rear brake lights activated without the brake pedal being depressed. The failure occurred spontaneously whenever the vehicle was in operation. In addition, the srs warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel and remained lit until the engine was turned off. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing and they stated that the failure was related to the electrical system. The vehicle was previously repaired according to NHTSA campaign id number 03v194000 (electrical system;wiring,interior/under dash); however, the recall remedy did not correct the failure. On a separate occasion, the instrument cluster failed and the contact noticed a burning smell inside the passenger compartment. Also, the accelerator pedal would become stuck without warning when it was depressed and the front driver's side seat belt retractor was inoperative. The webbing failed to extract. The failure mileage was 82,000 and current mileage was 99,000. It was Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007 when this trunk wiring issue occurred.

car   Trunk Wiring problem of Mitsubishi Montero

The vehicle is a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero. At 35000, the trunk door latch mechanism is broken. At 57000 miles check engine light lit, caused by spark plugs or spark plug wires open. Replace all plugs and wires at dealership, cost $300. Not covered by warranty. At 77000 miles, check engine light lit, dealership replaced catalytic converter under warranty but I pay for the oxygen sensor plus labor that goes with the catalyst. Old parts not available. Car driven about 3 miles home from dealeship after replacing the cat. Converter, the check engine light lit again. Dealership checked and said another oxygen sensor is bad. Total 4 oxygen sensors in the system. Cost $230 to replace one sensor. I could not believe that these sensors will go bad at the same time. Is that a coinsidence or manufacturer parts defects???. This problem occurred on 07/26/2004.

car   Trunk Wiring problem of Nissan Altima

The car was a 2008 Nissan Altima. Vehicle was driving along with other normal traffic when it suddenly lost power and stalled on an incline. Driver carefully steered vehicle to a safe place downhill and called a towing company to tow vehicle to driver's residence. Upon visual inspection of engine compartment, a rubber seal on the ecm wiring harness was found buckled up. On trying to remove and re-insert the harness, it was found that ecm terminals had corroded and some pin contact had actually fallen off. Upon doing some research, this was found to be an issue covered under federal emissions warranty. Driver/owner called the local Nissan dealership who immediately, presumably at their own expense, towed the car to their facility, checked and found the ecm to be faulty but blamed the faulty wiring harness for the failure. And further, the dealer claimed since the harness carries a 3 year warranty and was the "cause" of the ecm failure, this was no longer covered under federal emissions warranty resulting in a bill of $2,000+ for replacing the faulty - corroded - wiring harness and the faulty ecm. Attempts to have the dealer do more research or contact Nissan USA for advise fell on deaf ears. If the car had stalled on high speed and caused fatalities on the highway, would these repairs then have been "part" of federal emissions warranty coverage for publicity purposes? it is out of sheer luck that 1. The car stalled while going downhill and, 2. The car was travelling at 40 miles per hour. I desperately need advise on this while I await for delivery of a special order for the ecm and harness. In the meantime, my rental car expenses are piling up and are not covered by any warranty. It was Friday, Aug. 31, 2012 when this trunk wiring issue occurred.

The car was a 2004 SAAB 9-5. The VIN of the problem 95 is YS3ED45A74_. I have a 2004 SAAB 9. 5 that I bought new on April 1, 2004. From day 1 the cruise control was working erratically. Dealer said he could not replicate problem. Then cruise control stopped working. Then the electric trunk lock stopped working. I contacted the dealer telling it that even though I was now beyond the 50,000 mile portion of the 4 year warranty (of which only 28 months had elapsed) I wanted the trunk and cruise issues fixed along with a laundry list of items that were not addressed previously the last time I brought the car in under warranty. They have refused to address any of the issues. I found a site on the internet called Saabnet. A particular post hit the problem on the head. It was August 21, 2006 when this trunk wiring issue occurred.. Read more...

car   Trunk Wiring problem of SAAB 95

The car involved is a 2004 SAAB 9-5. I have a 2004 SAAB 9. 5 that I bought new on April 1, 2004. I discovered today for the first time that my backup lights are not working. Yesterday, I filed a complaint #10166145. This back up light problem is related. The hard plastic molded assembly on the drivers side of the trunk lid that is supposed to protect the wiring harness from damage is actually damaging and eventually cutting through all of the wires that pass through the assembly. Wires in my car began getting cut within 2 months of purchase and have continued. This assembly appears to be able to cut through about 8 wires leaving exposed wire in contact with each other and thereby disabling the cruise control, brake lights, reverse lights and electric trunk lock. This is not normal wear and tear - its a design fault. The wires seem to catch on the sharp edge of the plastic protector (!) that fits into the lid. They rub against this as the lid is open and closed. I believe this situation presents a potential electrical fire hazard and safety hazard and that the NHTSA should immediately issue a recall on this item. It was Tuesday, August 22, 2006 when this trunk wiring issue occurred.

car   Trunk Wiring problem of Saturn SC

The car involved was a 1997 Saturn Sc. I was driving my 1997 Sc Saturn north bound FL turnpike when the road felt really bumpy and suddenly the engine electrical (cables/wires)components flew & splash against the windshield blocking my view, "OH my god" I immediately eage to the left shoulder, got out of the vehicle to assess the situation, contacted geico road service. I was shocked to see that one of the lemans tire (right passenger side) tread had completely peeled & blown off. Apparently, as the tire began to fail the steel belts from the tire destroyed the inner fender, the outer fender and ripped out the main wiring harness that provided power to all electrical components inside the passenger compartment such as door locks, windows etc. It appears that the placment of this wiring harness over the front wheel should have been through the firewall and not over a wheel and with no protection. This trunk wiring problem happened on Thursday, Jul. 4, 2013.

car   Trunk Wiring problem of Saturn SL2

The car was a 1996 Saturn Sl2. Vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle is 1G8ZK5274T_. Rear lights kept going out - Saturn dealer said the electrical system had been butt-spliced. Since only Saturn worked on the vehicle, this was unexplainable. It seems, however, my car is not the only one with this problem. Apparently, the butt-splicing is being done by Saturn and being blamed on the consumer -- and charged to the consumer. I discovered this problem after being stopped by the police, twice. It was 11/01/2002 when this trunk wiring issue happened.

car   Trunk Wiring problem of Subaru Forester

The car is a 2010 Subaru Forester. Over the course of the weekend the vds and abs warning lights came on intermittently. On Monday, went to start the car for work and heard a slight popping sound and car would not turnover. Smelled burning plastic, but no smoke. Upon further inspection that evening discovered the vinyl of the driver's side rear wheel well was burn then removed the spare tire cover to discover a small fire had occurred in the spare tire compartment. It appears as though the wiring harness had caught on fire there. The car was wired for a trailer hitch by the dealer. It was Mon., Sep. 23, 2013 when this trunk wiring issue occurred.

car   Trunk Wiring problem of Suzuki Forenza

The car was a 2005 Suzuki Forenza. When I had bought this car in 2010 I was having problems with the headlights turning off at night and had to drive with my high beams on. So I took it into the dealership and they told me that the recall for my car had already been repaired. Received another notice in 2012 regarding the recalled splice pack. Took vehicle in to dealer a second time to have part fixed on 11/12/12 part 99963-85zsc was repaired after fixed I began having issues with the speakers, stock radio as well as the trunk light blinking and check engine light staying on. On July 1, 2013 I had parked my Suzuki Forenza at a coffee house and when I came out to vehicle the inside of cab was full of smoke. I had inspected vehicle to make sure there was'nt a fire. Smoke was coming from dashboard left of the steering column. We had disassembled the plastic around the steering wheel to discover that the wiring that controlled the lights, headlights, and blinker had been melted into the connector causing the lights to stay on when vehicles ignition was off. Took it to the dealership to be diagnosed. Description was; "vehicle suffered internal failure within mult ifunction switch that has caused a thermal melting of the connectors at the back of the multi function switch and wiring harness" part sm37420-85z10 switch assembly and sm36620-85z70 harness assembly. Estimated repairs $1,570. . I believe that all this is caused by improper repair of recalled spice pack due to the components that melted are connected to it. Please look into this issue my car is still at the Suzuki dealership. And has taken almost two weeks for them to repair. Said vehicle wont be done until Friday July 13, 2013 due to not having the parts in stock. This problem occurred on July 1, 2013.

VIN of the vehicle was 4T1BF1FK9D_. The owner has a 2013 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle the check engine light illuminated. The contact inspected the vehicle and found that rodents had damaged the electrical wiring by attempting to build a nest inside the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified but no solution was offered. The failure mileage was 6000. Updated 02/11/2014. This trunk wiring problem happened on Sunday, December 15, 2013.

car   Trunk Wiring problem of Toyota 4runner

The vehicle is a 2007 Toyota 4runner. The VIN of this vehicle is JTEBU14R77_. Vehicle was parked on shoulder of road, engine running, whilst adjusting the mobile gps (hence the reason for stopping). At first smoke was coming up around/through center console (between driver's seat and passenger front seat) and then flames. The interior of passenger compartment was totally burned out in spite of prompt response by emergency crew. State farm insurance has naturally been notified although I hardly see why state farm should pay and not Toyota. Surely there must have been something wrong with electrical wiring. It was 08/18/2013 when this trunk wiring issue happened.

car   Trunk Wiring problem of Volkswagen Jetta

The vehicle was a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta. I am the owner of a 2006 vw Jetta tdi sedan. I purchased the vehicle used in a private sale in 2009. By 2011 I was having numerous problems with the vehicle. The dual mass flywheel failed just after I had my car at the dealership for the timing belt service (approximate mileage 106,000). I had to have it towed (at my expense) to the dealership since it wasn't safe to drive the 130 miles. Dealership said it was a known problem but Volkswagen of America has not offered any assistance. Apparently someone has to die to get their attention. Approximate cost of repairs: $1,800. 2nd big problem is electrical. Wiring harness in the driver door failed soon after I purchased it. It started with the driver window switch not working. Then the lock/unlock button quit working. Then the interior/exterior safety lights. I have heard that it will progress to the trunk lid, the other windows, the fuel door, ect. Once again an extremely common problem due to a poor design. Once again Volkswagen of America has refused to offer assistance - the dealership quoted me just under $500 in parts and labor. Why would a harness cost $205!!! third problem is cosmetic issues. The paint is flaking off especially near the seams and at the wheel wheels. Rust formed where the paint bubbled up at two of the four wheel wheels. There is a service bulletin for paint problems in the generation before this vehicle and a 10-12 year corrosion warranty that vw refuses to honor. Additionally, problems with poor manufacturing practices and materials abound in this vehicle. The headliner pulls away from the pillars at the seams in the rear due to defective materials. It will separate from the roof and become a hanging visibility hazard. The plastic dash pieces don't fit together - shrinking and pulling away at the seams. Stereo buttons (as well as door switches) bubble and flake off. It was Feb. 2, 2011 when this trunk wiring issue occurred.

car   Trunk Wiring problem of Volkswagen Jetta

The car is a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta. Left turn signal, drivers door/all remote window switches, trunk/fuel door release, drivers door lock key fob locking of drivers door/drivers door internal lock are all inoperative. Occasionally, the cabin interior light remains on with a drivers "door open" indication on the instrument cluster even though the drivers door is closed and secure (but unable to be locked from the drivers door lock switch in the passenger cabin). The primary safety issue related to this problem is that the left turn signal displays on instrument cluster, but does not activate on the rear turn signal light and drivers window (along with all other windows remotely controlled on drivers door) are inoperative if needed to make a hand turn signal or egress from the vehicle in an accident (or submerged under water for an egress). Dealer and manufacture both refused to cover the replacement cost of the faulty part. I have performed every manufacture required service required (all documented) since purchasing this vehicle in the interest of safety and reliability. It had very low mileage on my purchase in early 2007. Per vw technical service bulletin, group 09-01 (201-7600), February 26, 2009, states that the drivers door wiring harness was manufactured 80 mm too short. This results in putting strain on the numerous wires in this harness near the door boot and connector plug causing wires to break and/or electrically short. My vehicle was affected by the VIN range of this manufactures service bulletin. The new replacement drivers door electrical harness are now 80 mm longer than the originally manufactured (installed) faulty part that the manufacture is unwilling to replace at their cost (parts or labor). I will pay for my repair personally, but believe that the safety aspect of this faulty part could compromise the safety of the driver and occupants in addition to other motorist. It was 04/10/13 when this trunk wiring issue occurred.

car   Trunk Wiring problem of Volvo S80

The car involved is a 2011 Volvo S80. While driving between 35 to 40 miles per hour for approximately 5 minutes, I began to smell something burning. There was no engine nor temperature indicator lit up on the dash. Assuming it was from a passing vehicle, I continued to drive for 1 to 2 minutes. Then looking in the rear view mirror, I could see black smoke coming from the trunk. Upon opening the trunk, the car burst into flames. The fire seems to have started in wiring located in the trunk then proceeded through to the speaker in the back seat. Even after turning off engine, the fireman on the scene noticed that the radio and air conditioning were still running. The battery had to be disconnected to shut electrical items off. This trunk wiring issue occurred 05/18/13.

car   Trunk Wiring problem of Volvo XC90

The car is a 2004 Volvo Xc90. While driving between 65 and 70 miles on a major interstate my 2004 Volvo xc 90 has a severe "thump" in the front end, which is then followed by a very brief (split second) internal (meaning all dashboard lights, hi-fi, dome lights, radio air condition, oil gage, fuel gage clock ) power failure. While trying to push the gas the car would not accelerate. At first I hit something on the highway. A minute or two later the "thump" was harder and the lights internally completely went out, hazard lights could not be turned on, blinkers could not be switched on, hi-fi went out, the door locks would not work, the windshield wipers would not cut on or the electric windows. I pulled over immediately and turned the car off, waited 10 minutes and restarted it. There were 3 messages on the dash, the yellow exclamation point dashboard icon/alert lit up, a service message flashed referring to the anti-lock brake failure, the srs needed to be checked, and check engine. The next day I took it to a Volvo dealership, they couldn't diagnose the problem. They assured me that the car was ok to drive. Four days later the problem starts again. So after doing a little research I find out that this is a common occurrence on the Volvo xc 90 and there was an investigation on this same issue in November 2010 in which Volvo is fully aware of and "acknowledges a problem affecting some subject vehicles involving water seepage into the plenum box area in the engine compartment. When this occurs water may enter into the interior passenger compartment and track along the wiring harness for the central electronic module, the device that controls many of the vehicles electrical functions including wiper operation, lighting, and transmission operation. If the water reaches the central electronic module connector electrical faults may result. " this is a $1200. 00 repair which Volvo should pay. This issue happened on 10/13/12.

car   Trunk Wiring problem of Audi A6

The car involved is a 2008 Audi A6. The wiring harness of both left and right headlight - the electrical wires within the plastic headlight housing going directly to the bulbs are losing their protective wire insulation. The insulation has become excessively brittle and is cracking throughout the entire wire length and in some areas wire insulation has fallen off the wire exposing bare wires. This can only be found when trying to change the light bulb since to access the defect area, the light bulb housing protective cover hiding the defect must be removed. The exposed bare wires cause a fire hazard in the engine compartment. In my car, I have found that while changing the light bulb and maneuvering the harness to have access to the bulb, this has excessively caused the brittle wire insulation to fall off exposing all the head light wires, in some instances several inches long, leaving them without the protective sheathing. Audi has admitted that they have seen this problem on their. I was also told that this happens due to the high current that goes through and the wires cannot handle the load (Audi service manager at braman Audi in west palm beach, FL told me this) but Audi will not address the factory defect. It was Wednesday, September 12, 2012 when this trunk wiring issue occurred.

car   Trunk Wiring problem of Audi A6

VIN of the vehicle was WAUDT74F65_. I purchased a 2005 Audi A6 3. 2 quattro in August of 2008 with 37,000 miles. In December 2008 I took the car to the Audi dealer in pasadena because the left rear taillight, left rear reversing light, and left rear fog light were shorting out off and on. Sometimes they would work, sometimes they wouldn't. The dealer said the connectors to that left tail lamp assembly were melted and it was fixed under warranty. The following summer, 2009, I took the car back to the dealer this time in santa monica, CA for the same problem and an oil change where once again they said the connectors to the left rear tail lamp, reversing light, and fog light were melted. I refused to pay and took car to an independent shop for a diagnosis. They said the vehicle has an electrical short and couldn't fix it. A week or two later, the lights were working again. That was summer/fall 2009. By April 2010, the lights stopped working again. I took the car into another Audi dealer this time in downtown, la. They diagnosed the problem saying the electrical system is sending too much electrical current to that side of the car and is causing the wiring to burn at the connection point to the tail lamp assembly. I refuse to pay for service that was already repaired I said just 15 months ago and asked why this is only happening to that side of the vehicle. They told me I would have to pay 385. 00 to fix it. I then took the car to another independent shop this week and they refused to fix the car because there are burn points in the trunk where the wiring is faulty and that Audi should fix the electrical system in the vehicle as it will just keep happening over and over again. I've also had problems with the window switches not working on the left side of the vehicle, and the lights shorting out in the center console. This is not only a big nuisance but I am worried that this could catch fire. Please help in this situation, thank you so much for your time. This problem occurred on 04/08/2010.

car   Trunk Wiring problem of BMW 530

This BMW 530xi wagon suffered a complete electrical failure after the sunroof drainage system drained rain water into the compartments where the battery, fuses, various wiring harnesses and computer modules are stored. Approximately 7 hours after the rain storm, the owner (with no knowledge of the improperly drained water) attempted to operate the vehicle. During the drive, the car displayed two system malfunctions, followed shortly thereafter by the message "electronic system malfunction. Continued driving not possible" and multiple warning lights and sounds. The car was parked in a safe area and later towed to the BMW dealer. The BMW dealer confirms that the sunroof drained rain water into the electronics compartments, shorting out at least four computer modules, and destroyed the battery and multiple switches, relays, and wiring harnesses. Certain system components, including an air bag control unit, showed evidence of a fire (presumably due to a short caused by the rain water. ) the BMW dealer states that replacing electronics modules and the battery (approximately $4,000) are required before further diagnostics can be performed to determine if there is damage to other vehicle components. This trunk wiring issue occurred 07/15/2012.

car   Trunk Wiring problem of Buick Lacrosse

The vehicle involved is a 2012 Buick Lacrosse. Car was parked in garage for 10 hours. Found with all lights inside and out flashing. Remote entry didn't work. Car wouldn't start. Key stuck in ignition. Overhead light and wipers turned on and off on their own and were making a clicking sound. Trunk popped open on its own, then when shut wouldn't open again with the latch over license holder. Onstar didn't work and when called they couldn't "find" my vehicle for diagnostics. Called for a jump start- jumped with battery pack, started easily and ran 5 minutes then went completely dead as soon as unplugged from power supply. Would not restart. Towed to dealer who is telling me they cannot find anything wrong with my vehicle. I will not be taking this car back until it is fixed. Huge safety concern. Couldn't set parking brake or get onstar or even get key out of ignition while all lights flashed and clicked around me- seemed like an electric or wiring problem to me which can be a fire hazard and what if I'm driving down the road at 70mph and all electric goes dead- steering and all. I have e-assist and second battery doesn't help when don't have power to transfer power. I have had car only for one year brand new. This trunk wiring issue occurred 02/10/13.

car   Trunk Wiring problem of Cadillac SRX

The vehicle was a 2012 Cadillac Srx. The VIN of this vehicle is 3GYFNAE38C_. I opened the rear lift gate from inside the car . I had just parked curbside at my 13 year old daughter's school , as I do each school day morning to drop her off . As she leaned in the back cargo space to pull out her back pack and lunch box the cargodoor started to close on its own on my daughter . Neither of us had pressed the button . I was unaware at first as I was in the front seat facing forward , I heard her scream and was watching in horror as she was being crushed by the door between the door and her bag and the cargo compartment . I did not understand why the door did not treverseand was unsure in that split second if I pressed the button would it reverse the door or crush her further . I also was unaware if I had enough time to jump out of the car, run to the back . To try to pull the door up . This came close to being a catastrophe. If my daughter was smaller or younger or in a different position . She is bruised and I am really concerned a car is on themarket like this . I saw other complaints like mine on line today after this happened . The dealership is being less than helpful not to mention . My car has locked me out twice with the keyless entry after the car was unlocked . It relocked . The navigation and bluetooth toss me reguarly . I think this car has a wiring issue on top of the lace of safty with the back gate,. This trunk wiring problem happened on Thursday, April 25, 2013.
