Software Problems in popular cars

Software problem is a common vehicle problem that happens to most car brands and models. The following is a sample list of Software problems reported in most popular vehicles.

car   Software problem of Chevrolet Volt

Letter from constituent regarding his wife 2013 Chevrolet Volt, who having issues with the hvac system not cooling the rear seats when the temperature was near 100 degrees; requesting that gm accept the return of the vehicle and purchase price be refunded. The consumer stated the windows would fog up whenever humidity was present, the navigation system, was reading the vehicle was in detroit, the re-generative braking system and acceleration had downgraded after the last software update. This software problem happened on Tuesday, April 1, 2014.

car   Software problem of Chevrolet Volt

The vehicle involved is a 2011 Chevrolet Volt. Vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle is 1G1RD6E4XB_. As an electric vehicle, when running on battery, it is difficult to know when the vehicle is left running. Upon returning home one day, I exited the vehicle and plugged it in. I didn't realize at the time, that I had not turned off the Volt by pressing the blue power switch on the dashboard. The next morning, I came into my enclosed garage and could hear the Volt's gas powered generator running. I looked at the dash display and could see the Volt had not charged, had used up all remaining battery, and had been running on gas generator for some time. My concern is regarding carbon dioxide poisoning risks. I have tried over the past 60 days to get a response out of gm as a Volt owner and I feel they are stonewalling me as they have not responded to me on this concern despite three different inquiries on my behalf. This is very unusual for gm who normally is quite responsive. I propose if the vehicle can sense it is plugged in that it should shut down should the battery become depleted rather than turn on the gas generator to keep the car running. I'm confident gm can detect the car is plugged in so programmatically I'm not understanding the challenge to solve this safety issue. Electric cars are not like other cars in that you can't hear when they are on. Chances are, if the vehicle is plugged in it's in a garage. No gm employee who I have spoken with has explained why it's reasonable to run the generator in the scenario I have described. I do hope no one dies before this issue is resolved. It should be a simple software update for the Volt to resolve the issue. This software issue occurred Monday, October 14, 2013.

car   Software problem of Chrysler Pacifica

The vehicle involved is a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica. Since I purchased my vehicle the front low beam lights have went out numerous times while driving at night. I have had them replaced on several occasions and the problem persists. Recently I have had problems with my battery and was told by pepboys auto shop that something is draining the battery and its possibility is the exterior lighting/headlamps. Even though I continue to replace the headlamps they keep going out and my battery is being drained. After 2 batteries in 3 years I had the alternator checked and it was in good condition. I was told to look up a recall list where I found exterior lighting 05v066000 and I called. I also have had a fuel pump problem that seems to exist and no one can figure out way. After getting it fixed by the Chrysler dealership twice my vehicle will not pass smog because of another leak. I also found out that there are complaints of some similar issues fuel pump/powertrain control module software 06v432000 and I called. Please put these to issues on the recall list so that auto owners will be safe on the road and California's air will not be polluted by the fumes. It was Tuesday, Jun. 7, 2011 when this software issue occurred.

The vehicle having this issue was a 2005 Chrysler town and country. Power door locks stop working. Remote control activation of power liftgate activates alarm. Software defect in body control module. Chrysler charges for software update ($120 for half hour labor). TSB 08-040-04 can temporary fix by removing iod fuse for 30 seconds to reset the body control module. car   Software problem of Dodge Grand Caravan

The vehicle is a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) is 1D4GP24R95_. Power door locks are not working. Unable to lock or unlock doors with either key remote or button located on the door. This is a concern because the locks do not engage when vehicle is in mode of travel. This first started in August of 2012 with the passenger sliding door and now both sliding door locks are inoperable as well as the trunk hatch. Have tried changing fuses without success. I researched information online and found a site that indicated that a bcm software update could fix the problem but dealerships charge for the update. Should there be a fee involved when this mechanism is secondary to a software issue that creates a safety hazard? because safety issues are at hand should this be listed as safety recall?. The failure date was August 23, 2012.

car   Software problem of Dodge Caravan

The car was a 2005 Dodge Caravan. Power door locks cease to function from internal switch or key fob. Key fob still activates anti-theft alarm and will lock and unlock the rear liftgate but not the front doors or sliding doors. Removing and reseating the iod fuse/relay will resolve the issue for a short time but it fails again within a matter of hours or at best a couple days. Dealer attempted to replace the door lock modules but this did not resolve the issue. Research shows that this is a known issue and there is a software update to resolve it but Dodge/chrystler has not yet issued a recall or provided extended warranty coverage for this in spite of the widespread nature of the failures and apparently numerous complaints to safercar. car   Software problem of Ford Escape

The vehicle involved is a 2009 Ford Escape. Ford claims they have a customer satisfaction program (13n03) to address problems with the engine throttle body and that customers who come into dealerships will be able to have the powertrain control module software reprogrammed to protect the throttle body. The problem is- Ford will not honor this program unless the error shows on their diagnosis computer. I had this exact problem happen to me and the error did not show up on the Ford diagnosis computer so Ford will not fix this problem on my vehicle. As I was pulling out of a driveway and started to accelerate, my 2009 Ford Escape just completely lost all acceleration. The wrench light came on the dashboard, indicating an error. I could not get the car to drive above 2 - 3 mph. I took the car into the Ford dealership the next day, but their computer diagnosis machine did not show the problem. I was told that since I had powered off my car after the error occured, the error was cleared from memory and would not show up on the computer diagnosis machine. If the computer did not show that my vehicle had that error, Ford would not fix the throttle body. Who can drive a car 20 miles to the nearest Ford dealership when the car can only go 2 - 3 mph???. This is a major safety issue! I am very concerned that this will happen to me again when I am on a busy highway with my family in the car! what if this happens when I am driving on an interstate and I am unable to safely get off the road? since this has already happened to me, I know that my vehicle has this problem and it is only a matter of time before it happens again. How many people will have to be killed before something is done about this major safety issue????. It was Thursday, April 24, 2014 when this software issue happened.

car   Software problem of Ford Focus

The car involved is a 2014 Ford Focus. Trouble with the dual clutch automatic transmission from the first day of ownership. The car now has 6k miles and the problems persist. The following problems are even worse during cold weather: the transmission shifts poorly, roughly, misses shifts, chooses the wrong gear for the vehicle speed, disengages and sends the engine to redline then drops into gear with a bang and either slows the vehicle with engine braking because the gear is too low, or lugs the engine with no acceleration because the gear is too high. The transmission is always shifting, and seems 'confused' as to what gear that it should be in. In city driving, if I need to suddenly brake, when I re-apply the throttle again, the transmission hangs between gears and the engine revs to redline then drops into gear and chirps the tires. The transmission also makes grinding noises when changing from 1st to 2nd gear. Also very slow to drop to a lower gear when throttle is pressed for quick acceleration. Takes about 2 seconds for it to downshift and then accelerate. Also, the gear indicator on the console (prnds) doesn't line up with the shifter or illuminate to show which gear is selected, so it's difficult to tell whether I've selected reverse, neutral, or drive. In addition, the display on the instrument panel that shows the gear selection sometimes takes over 30 seconds to illuminate or 'boot up' to indicate what gear is selected. I often end up in neutral when I think I've chosen reverse or drive while I wait for the instrument panel indicator to 'boot up'. The dealerships say that I have the current software, and, "they all do that. " dangerous, and will probably add up to very expensive repairs as it can't possibly be reliable under these conditions. This software problem happened on Monday, September 2, 2013.

car   Software problem of GMC Yukon

The VIN of this vehicle was 1GKFC13J87_. I accelerated onto the freeway to catch up with on coming traffic on my 2007 GMC Yukon. When I hit top speed in the 3rd lane not even a quarter of a mile at 65-70mph, the accelerator got stuck making my vehicle travel at 80-90mph on its own. I stepped on the brake but my vehicle was still accelerating. I then put the car into neutral and took the next closest exit. I was blocking the exit with on coming traffic behind me and luckily a few good samaritans help me push my vehicle to safety. I used onstar to get my car towed to the dealership, thus being a Sunday, all service departments were closed. Monday morning 8/20/07 I notified the dealer about the accident and it wasn't until 8/21/07 Tuesday I received my vehicle back. I was told that there was a recall on the computer and am very upset that I was not notified by mail or by phone call by GMC. I am very shaken up and traumatized about the whole ordeal and very thankful that the worst didn't happen. This problem occurred on Aug. 19, 2007.

car   Software problem of GMC Yukon

The vehicle involved is a 2007 GMC Yukon. On the dashboard, there is a button with a stick figure in a sitting position and an arrow at the feet of the stick figure to indicate air to be discharged at the floor by the fan. When I push that button for heating, unfortunately, 80-90% of the air is being discharged at the top of the dashboard through a small vent on the far right and left of the windshield, which are designed to blow on the passenger and driver side windows to defrost them. There is additional leakage of a small volume of air at the defrost vent for the windshield and, whatever's left, blows on the floor. The net result is the vehicle is pumping most of the hot air to the ceiling (because the small dashboard vents point up) where hot air naturally wants to be and it is very difficult to get hot air on the floor where, according to the owner's manual, the majority of the air should be directed. The compartment, therefore, takes forever to warm up and your feet actually get cold while you're driving the car. It was Thu., Nov. 1, 2007 when this software issue occurred.

car   Software problem of Acura MDX

The car was a 2014 Acura Mdx. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of the car was 5FRYD3H66E_. The included infotainment system, which is now predominantly controlled by a touchscreen, is incredibly slow, laggy, and dangerous to operate. There are multiple, ongoing failures with this system - every time I enter the vehicle. As Honda/Acura has removed or replaced primary-operation buttons (32 out of 41, by their count), the mandate to use the other operational system (touchscreen and jog-dial) has increased the risk of safety incidents, exacerbated by a slow user interface response and often-failing voice control system. My vehicle has been in the dealer once, and has been waiting for a software update for five months. New vehicles have an updated software load, but Acura refuses to install it. Acura client relations has refused to provide updates or a solution. The failure date was August 2, 2013.

The vehicle involved was a 2007 Acura Rl. The VIN of this vehicle is JH4KB16607_. This complaint has already been filed as #10198855. I see no way to add or edit that complaint but needed to provide a video of the problem. Below is a url to that video and the issue restated; I have a consumer fraud complaint against Honda motor corp ? Acura division, which I?d like for you to review. Honda motors - makers of the Acura Rl -- are selling this vehicle with a safety feature called the collision mitigation braking system (cmbs). car   Software problem of Honda CR-V

The car was a 2014 Honda Cr-v. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of this Honda Cr-v is 2HKRM4H71E_. Tire pressure monitor systemp (tpms) light come on every few miles. We had reseted it 50 time by now. All speed & temperatures. Dealers serviced this problem 3 times so far. Checked everything out ok. Customer forum mentioned a vehicle stability control firmware "vsa/abs software update" & "sb#14-006 update". Dealer applied firmware update may 8. But tpms lights still came on. Problem not fixed by the firmware update. This software issue occurred 05/17/2014.

The vehicle is a 2014 Honda Cr-v. Tire pressure monitoring system has not worked properly since before I took the vehicle off the lot. Despite multiple checks, the light does not seem to stay off and has no relationship to the actual pressure of the tires. The tire pressure itself seems fine. I had the dealer conduct a software upgrade on 3/30/14 and the light has been on three times since. The dealer is suspecting that cell phone interference it a possible culprit. The failure date was Sat., Mar. 1, 2014.

car   Software problem of Hyundai Sonata

The vehicle is a 2009 Hyundai Sonata. Please be advised that I purchased said vehicle new and at around 35000 miles I started to notice that when I slowed down and came to a stop the transmission would jerk on the down shift, which is not normal. On 01-19-2012 I brought my car to the dealer where I purchased from . I was informed that this problem is common and that once my computer is reset it should go away, and there is a service bulletin on that issue. On 03-19-2012 I was having the same issue so the transmission was replaced with factory reconditioned transmission. Now with 74000 mile the car is back for the 5 th time for the same transmission problem. The dealer has my car and I have not heard from the dealer or Hyundai corporation for two weeks. I believe that Hyundai corporation knew the problem existed and neglected to fix the problem other wise a new car with 35000 miles should not have this problem and the mechanics don't know how to remedy the faulty transmission. I am very disappointed with Hyundai and there handling of this problem. I believe the damage has been done, and new software is not going to fix this problem, the bands in the transmission are worn now, the damage has been done. This is just putting a band aid on a serious problem and a manufacturing defect. One does not anticipate any serious problems with a brand new car with only 35000 miles. What good is a 10 year 100. 000 mile warranty when you start having these problem at 35000 miles. I have done some research on-line and there are others who have the same problem with same car, I am not the only one. This is a disgrace Hyundai corporation I purchased said vehicle from atlantic Hyundai inc. Located at 193-205 sunrise highway, west islip NY 11795. I have also contacted Hyundai corporation several times but to no avail. The failure date was Thursday, January 19, 2012.

car   Software problem of Hyundai Sonata

The car involved was a 2009 Hyundai Sonata. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) is 5NPET46C49_. I noticed a shuddering at 90,250 miles, while traveling during the winter at around 30-45 mph, but was very intermittent, and would go away. Then on 10/9/2013 at 102,515 miles, from park, the transmission would not engage into reverse or drive. I could hear the transmission shift, but it was not disengaging from park. Per Hyundai service technician, the transmission was "junk" and would need to be replaced. I contacted Hyundai corporate, during which time I was informed they didn't have my information in their system and that in fact there were 2 recalls that they failed to notify me of, and was told that if I allowed the Hyundai service to do the repair right then, that I would be eligible for their policy reimbursement. One of the recalls was an ecm and tcm software update in which symptoms were improper clutching and DE-clutching of gears when accelerating and decelerating. That shift quality over time caused undo stress on the gearing causing my failure. The repair was made, I then had to pay upfront, and a week later they've denied my policy reimbursement claim due to fluid being the cause of failure. I then provided them with further documentation showing that their own technician re-used 5 quarts of my original fluid on the repair order, and that I followed the maintenance record that was suggested by their own technicians advice when I purchased the vehicle. Drain and fill every 30,000 miles. The last drain and fill was on June 14, 2013. Hyundai did not provide me with any fluid analysis or specs to support their denial of my policy reimbursement. I saved the agents voicemail of the denial in which she stated due to "color" and that alone, was the reason why the claim was denied. This software issue occurred Wed., Dec. 5, 2012.

car   Software problem of Jeep Grand Cherokee

The vehicle having this issue was a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. VIN of the vehicle was 1C4RJFCGOE_. Since I bought this vehicle when one turns a corner and the paddle shifter is in advertently touched the car can drop into any gear and can slow so that one stands a risk of being rear ended as has narrowly happened to me . There is a real need to prevent this dangerous behavior to have a preventer mechanism of some sort to prevent this by reprogramming the software or by mechanical means by installing a switch of some sort that must be separately engaged to transfer control of gear to the paddle shifter. This issue happened on Wednesday, April 24, 2013.

car   Software problem of Jeep Commander

The car involved was a 2010 Jeep Commander. After application of safety recall n23/ NHTSA 13v-175. Reprogram final drive controller module. 2005 - 2010. (wk) Jeep® grand cherokee. 2006 - 2010. (xk) Jeep Commander, the transfer case of our car could not be shifted out of 4-high to either neutral or 4-low. Consequently a major drive train component has been destroyed. This demonstrates the software is defective and potentially dangerous and may not correct the reason for the recall. This is completely unacceptable and is indeed a safety risk. Chrysler has not remedied the problem even after thousands of complaints. I demand that NHTSA force Chrysler's hand in this matter as nothing is being done to fix this faulty recall!. car   Software problem of Kia Motor Sedona

The vehicle involved was a 2012 Kia Motor Sedona. 2014 kia sorento limited safety issue: the electroluminescent speedometer isn't readable during daylight operation. This causes a very real safety situation when the driver has to take his eyes off the road for 3 or 4 seconds to figure out how fast he is going. The display is entirely programmable by kia. They have chosen to show the speed by a small dark red marker against a black background. During daylight driving you have to hunt for the marker. Put on sun glasses and it can take 5 or 6 seconds to find the marker. All that time you are not looking at the road. Simple program changes and software updates could easily solve this problem. - make the marker longer and/or bigger, make the marker lighter red, make the marker white, or show the speed numerically in the center of the speedometer. All these could be driver selectable from the existing “settings” menu. Kia has been made aware of this problem since at least June 10, 2013 (case # k2502753 – customer service representatives quinton and robin). They are liable for accidents caused by this faulty product. The local kia service people recognize the problem but only corporate kia can fix it. Other than this safety issue my $39,050 2014 sorento limited is perfectly assembled and excellently designed. This issue happened on Fri., Jun. 7, 2013.

The car involved is a 2008 Land Rover Lr2. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of the car was SALFP24N58_. On April 11, 2014, a check engine light is on and rmps goes up and down at idle. I went to the dealership and had to pay $340. 00 for diagnostic and software updates that should be free and covered by Land Rover, not by its customers. car   Software problem of Lexus ES330

The vehicle identification number (VIN) of this Lexus ES 330 is JTHBA30G94_. I own a Lexus Es330 2004. It isn't involved in the accelerator recall. However my car does drive by wire. The following if from car and driver. According to them software does exist that stops voltage to the etc when the brakes are applied. To me this is a "no brainer". Maybe there are patent issues that is not an excuse. Toyota should be forced to reprogram their software. I work in industry we use interlocks all the time. But Toyota could do better. Since the advent of electronic throttle control, many automakers have added software to program the throttle to close?and therefore cut power?when the brakes are applied. Cars from BMW, Chrysler, Nissan/Infiniti, Porsche, and Volkswagen/Audi have this feature, and that's precisely why the g37 aced this test. This issue happened on February 16, 2010.

The vehicle was a 2002 Lincoln Ls. This vehicle has issues with the transmission shifting and/or not shifting, it shifts back and forth between high and low gears until it stalls, this time it stalled while in front of a large tractor trailer. It stalled and lost all power including steering and brakes nearly causing a crash. car   Software problem of Mazda Cx-7

The car is a 2010 Mazda Cx-7. The vehicle had a crash. When driving with the a/c on, the ecm seems to malfunction and increase the speed of the car when the ac compressor turns on. If you are in the process of braking, the car will not stop and it will require the driver to press harder on the brakes. The car gets and extra boost of energy and even though you are braking, the car lunges forward and continues to roll further. If the driver is caught off guard, this will lead to an accident. I crashed my car into a family members house as I was parking. Luckily, the parking bumper slowed down the car enough so as to only slightly bump the house. It has happened in regular traffic as well. Luckily, I keep a safe distance from cars and brake early but now I brake even earlier just in case. Volkswagon had the same problem and they did a large recall on the vehicle because of the safety issue it involves. If you own a Cx-7 keep an eye out for this, especially when the a/c is on. It only happens when the timing is just right that you are braking and the compressor turns on a that precise moment so it will catch you off guard and scare the daylights out of you. I've been lucky so far but this could definitely cause major damage if not recalled in order to fix. Here is the info from a recall from Volkswagen. Volkswagen is recalling approximately 4,000 of its cars. The automaker will fix engine control module software that can trigger an unexpected increase in engine rpm, according to the national highway traffic safety administration. "these vehicles have an engine control module containing software that may not properly control engine idle with the air-conditioning turned on," NHTSA said in its summary of the problem. "in rare cases, the ecm may unexpectedly increase engine rpm. An engine surge caused by an unexpected increase in engine rpm may surprise the vehicle operator and can result in a crash without warning. ". This problem occurred on 06/11/13.

car   Software problem of Mazda Tribute

The car involved was a 2001 Mazda Tribute. This is the second time my car stalled while driving at around 40mph. Again I was going down a hill, around a bend just like the first time. The car dies, all power goes out, leaving me to try to get my car to the side of the road. No power steering, no power brakes. The first complaint, the dealership replaced the whole ignition, they said this would fix the problem. I spoke to a zone representative on 4/17/02, the day of the second complaint, who told me back when the first problem occurred, Mazda really didn't know how to solve the problem. Recently, they discovered it was a computer chip/software problem so when I called in to the dealership today, they said they knew of the problem and they just had to fix it. They had gotten a letter from Mazda stating that there were complaints about this and now they knew what the problem was. They did not attempt to contact me to let me know that when they originally fixed the problem, it wasn't complete. Further, I just had my car in for a regular service check up/oil change yesterday, 4/16/02, a day before the problem. Also, I had just had a service check up previously before the first problem when they knew about it then. So, today, the problem happened again and now, I feel unsafe driving this vehicle. How do I know there isn't something else Mazda is not telling me? I would like to see a recall on this vehicle and to have a full inspection on this part and all its components. Thank you. Nlm. car   Software problem of Mercedes Benz C300

The vehicle involved is a 2009 Mercedes Benz C300. The vehicle would not accept the computer chip key pod and the car was completely disabled, steering lock assembly had an electrical fault. The car was completely locked up, unable to turn ignition on. No advance notice that this was a problem. The car had to be towed to a mercedes dealership for repair, almost 50 miles at a cost of $240. The repair was $707. 00 and involved replacement of steering column lock assembly. This was not covered under warranty by mercedes and they have not announced a recall even though this problem seems prevalent on the internet. The safety issue is having a vehicle that cannot be operated, nor repaired by anyone other than an authorized mercedes dealership. This problem strands the driver at a place wherever the problem may occur. I had the dealership return the faulty part if NHTSA would like to inspect it. The Mercedes Benz steering column lock problem is not from wear and tear, more likely a software problem between the ignition and the key. As a consumer, I feel ripped off to the tune of $1,000 to pay for a problem that mercedes knows about, yet has not initiated a recall to repair the fault. This issue happened on Fri., Jun. 7, 2013.

The vehicle was a 2003 Mercedes Benz S Class. 2003 s600 wdbng76j63a338722 my relatively new (3000 miles) s600 has a persistent problem with the new v12 engine that has now developed into a serious safety risk for the driver. My car has been in service more than 4 times for this problem - it has been escalated to the tech center by my dealer - it has not ever been fixed. The spark plugs are regularly fouled by misfiring cylinders (1,2,7,8) - the dealer says it may be a software problem that mbusa has failed to fix. . And now - when driven at speed over relatively modest bumps - the car totally dies and all power is gone. . . The srs light comes on for a moment but all steering on the car is gone and (if you are not killed in the meantime) you need to steer the car manually to the side of the road as it coasts to a stop. This is a deadly driving hazard - mbusa is aware of this problem and permitting it to continue. . . You have failed to respond to my prior written materials including those contained in your own surveys to me. . . The car is a lemon and I want a new car or we will begin suit as well as state and federal lemon and fraud proceedings . . We will also file a demand with NHTSA that an immediate recall be required of mbusa on all s6oo cars with this engine. . . Note this cylinder problem began to appear at 700 miles&. In March, 2003 it happened again in April, 2003 at 1000 miles it has continued to occur and has never been fixed&. In the meantime, the new problem of the power failing entirely has been happening for about 10 days howard a. Tullman 847-448-2310. It was July 26, 2003 when this software issue happened.

car   Software problem of Mercury Milan

The vehicle is a 2010 Mercury Milan. While driving on a country road at 50 mph on mon. May 27th, the car seemed to stall, the gas pedal didn't work & we had to pull over ASAP. After stopping & restarting the car, we were able to proceed home. At the time, I thought it was a fluke. Then on may 30th it happened again on my street going around 30 mph, so I called the dealer and they said I could come in the next day. Later that same day, I was in rush hour traffic on rt 22(busy highway) & it happened while I was going 60 in the left lane, this was very scary as it was difficult to get over to the shoulder with so much traffic. I took my car to the Ford dealer on Friday may 31st & they said there were no alerts on the car, that they would do a software upgrade that would hopefully fix the issue. The receipt they gave me listed that a throttle body was needed, & it was on back order. I have been trying to minimize using the car, but on June 15th I had to go to my niece and nephew's dance recital in south NJ. While driving home on 295 (major highway) going around 65 the car died again. I was able to proceed after restarting the car, but didn't make it home again without it happening another time. I was making a left turn at an intersection light and the engine died. Thank god it wasn't a wider intersection or I would not have been able to coast through. At this point this car is unusable and is a death trap waiting to happen. I called another dealer, and the part is on back order there as well. This is clearly a major problem with defective throttle bodies in the 2010 Milan that should be recalled, I would like to know how this problem will be rectified. The proof is in the fact that they cannot make the part fast enough to fix the broken cars. The two dealers I dealt with are aware of this widespread problem, obviously due to a manufacturing defect with the throttle body assembly. I have <60k miles. It was Monday, May 27, 2013 when this software issue occurred.

Acceleration is also affected at other times where the foot pedal is inoperable, but reestablished when shutting the ignition off and on. The drive train becomes wobbly after a short period of time at highway speeds making travel between cities unsafe. A clunking sound from the rear, as broken spring or loose bowling ball makes, is heard at times of mild acceleration at lower speeds. car   Software problem of Audi Q7

In August of 2006 I signed a three year lease for the new Audi Q7, 4. 2. Right from the start, I encountered a potentially very dangerous problem. When coming to a stop and then trying to accelerate the vehicle failed to move. Only by removing my foot from the accelerator and then applying full pressure will I start moving again. This was not a lag nor a hesitation, since without removing my foot from the pedal the car simply will not move. Depending on the brake to accelerator or accelerator to brake sequence, the car will either come a fully unresponsive stop or fail to shift from second to third gear. The dealership initially denied the existence of the problem. Now, after having had the car test driven several times and after having been in constant contact with representatives of Audi and I am being told that this was not the car for you. Should have not bought this car if you drive with both feet. I have not found this warning in any publication. Audi of America's explanation was that the drive by wire system will shut down the fuel supply when the brake and the gas pedal sense just the slightest pressure at the same time, causing the car to stall in the middle of traffic. Audi has not issued a software correction to the problem. I test drove the same model Q7 recently and it behaved the same way. By driving this car, I am exposing myself and my passengers to very dangerous situations on an hourly basis. Coming to a stand still in front of oncoming traffic was a death sentence. Even though Audi admittedto the problem and offered their scientific explanation to the sudden fuel supply shut down, the representatives told me that the vehicle performed to manufacturer's specifications. This software issue occurred May. 8, 2007.

car   Software problem of BMW 335

The vehicle involved is a 2013 BMW 335i. The car goes into "limp mode" while driving reducing power immediately. I was making a turn onto a street crossing a highway and my car went into this limp mode. I was almost hit due to the sudden loss of power. Symptoms: 1) loss of power and car will not rev. Past ~3,000 rpm (no fault codes on dash) 2) radiator electric cooling fan on max (very loud) 3) engine oil temp. Approx. 205 degf or lower (while limp mode is occurring, temp. Is usually not at normal operating temp of 245 degf) the problem goes away once car is turned off and back on (it resets). Many users have reported that it seems to happen after a long comfort mode drive on the freeway followed by city driving and switching to sport mode. Repair attempts: 1) auxiliary electric cooling fan replacement (mounted to the radiator and fan shroud) - biggest culprit (the fan is tested directly and will fail the test but may or may not have a fault code stored in the ecu) 2) fan relay replacement 3) thermostat replacement 4) dme replacement with software update as far as we can tell, there is no sib yet but plenty of puma cases have been filed. car   Software problem of BMW 330

The car involved was a 2006 BMW 330xi. VIN of the vehicle was WBAVD33546_. I had a bad experience this morning. When I got into my car, it wouldn't start when I pushed the start button. Instead it had an icon on the dash of the steering wheel with a lock sign on it. I pulled the fob out and put it back in a few times, trying to start the car every time, but no life. This is a very weird problem. The steering wheel lock wouldn't release. I tried to get it started for over 30 minutes, still unsuccessful. I did some research on the internet, apparently it is a common problem in the 06 and early 07 models of the 3 series. In mid-07, BMW stopped putting locks in the steering columns. Apparently, this problem has to do with the electronic lock power draw when starting the car, and a software update normally fixes the problem. If the software update does not work, BMW replaces the steering column if you are under the warranty. All my updates are done because I took it to my BMW dealer on 11/14/12 and they rechecked everything. This issue happened on Dec. 1, 2012.. Read more...

car   Software problem of Buick Rainier

The car involved was a 2005 Buick Rainier. The lower instrument panel display, that shows the odometer, fuel mileage etc, does not always come on. I have had the display show up prior to starting, while in "run" but not started and then not come on after starting. Most of the time it will come on the next time I start the vehicle after letting it sit for a minute or two. . Even more recently the fuel gauge did not go up to full after adding fuel, the needle bounced on full and then when I placed the vehicle into drive it went back to empty, then thirty seconds later it went back to full. Fortunately at that point the display was working and the range immediately went to zero, leaving me with no information on the fuel. The fuel gauge has also dropped to empty unexpectedly while driving. The problems are irritating and intermittent at this point, and chasing it down is next to impossible. I would also like to note that when the fuel gauge did its dance from e to f to e to f that the check engine light also came on. Unfortunately I am not able to get my obdii scanner to work on the car yet, to determine the problem, that may have to do with I have older software. The engine light is now off so I may never figure out what went wrong. The failure date was December 1, 2008.
